Southpark is ANIMATED in 30 frame per second. I DON'T want them to FAKE a 1080p/24 just for the sake of it. I hate when they modify the framerate it was originaly animated in. If the Blu-ray Spec would include 30p it would be a problem, but they didn't and it was the only shortcoming of blu-ray vs HD DVD (witch had 30p in it's spec and used it a couple of times).

Old HD tv show were shot in 1080i Digitally sometime, they were the first Digital Cam for Tv show , they were cheap. Some were shot when film, so that's fine, others in 1080i (natively).

If you have a good Blu-ray player that do 1080i to 1080p correctly. You'll end up with a perfectly fine 1080p/60 (witch is a 2:2 30p transfert). Off course one of the only processor that can do it correctly is the REON or GENOM and Blu-ray player with it are rare now...

Btw Star Trek is CBS too and since it was SHOT in Film it's 1080p/24 because it's his native framerate

So the fact that this particular show didn't have a city-based title is what was confusing to him?

That's why I wondered if this was some kind of joke - anyone who has seen the show would know it takes place in Las Vegas, but it's easy to see that confusion given the other two shows and their names with someone who hasn't.

"CSI: Las Vegas" is kind of its unofficial fan-created title.

DVDTalk gave this set a glowing review, but noted a potential defective disc:

On disc one, I was able to play the pilot episode (called, surprisingly enough, "Pilot") without any problems, but about five minutes into the second episode, "Cool Change," the picture began freezing up at which point it would jump ahead - sometimes just a few seconds, sometimes more than a minute or two - and it did it so incessantly I had to give up watching that particular episode. When the same thing happened with the third episode, I took the disc out, cleaned it (it had no obvious scratches or other damage, though it had dislodged from its hub during shipment), rebooted my player and tried again, with no luck. The other discs seem to play just fine, and I've played other discs on the player since then so I don't think the problem's there. It could be some kind of firmware issue, but given the deadline for posting this review I have no definitive answer at this time.

In Thailand, the distributor changed the title on the DVD box to CSI: Vegas for some of the seasons.

All of the Thai DVD covers for CSI, CSI: Miami, and CSI: New York look pretty bad compared to the US releases.

Pretty much all Thai DVD covers are close to being thought of as bootlegs.

South Park Studios still has every original digital file for the South Park series and is currently at work on new high-definition remasters for Seasons 1 to 11. These remasters will be reframed at true HD:

...we have been working hard for over a year re-rendering previous seasons in native HD. We are not up-converting the episodes, but actually going into each episode and re-rendering every shot and frame at true HD.

They could easily redo everything for 1080p/24 but then it would be cost prohibitive to do so.

Why doesn't Blu-Ray include 30p? This could be a very disadvantage for "old" tv shows shot in 30p and so now we get 1080i instead of 1080p...it's not like tv or player won't be able to apply a right refresh rate if they can do 59.94i they can do 30p. Unless it's true 30p into 60i !

Really excited for this. I stopped buying the series because I figured it would come out on blu someday! Glad to see the wait is finally paying off!

To sum up the confusion no i never watch CSI and see that all the other CSI's had a city name to it so was curious. Due to most episodes being from las vegas i may give this title a go no to give the series a chance with me.

if any Canadians are following this thread, you can forget getting this release unless you order it from an American retailer like Amazon and pay the extra for that "import fee" thing they implemented, because this will not be released in Canada.

So myself and any Canucks here are out of luck unless you can pay extra for it.

It's the best out of the three. Even though I haven't seen the past 3 seasons because I missed a bunch of eps a few seasons ago.

I can confirm this problem also.

I am about to call whoever I need to call about this and my case was broken when I opened it.

Got it today from Best Buy. No problems with disc 1 so far (two episodes in). Watching this in widescreen and with such good PQ is unbelievable - like watching the show for the first time again! Audio is jawdropping as well.

Did the old DVD set for season 1 have any deleted scenes? I never bothered with it because it was 4:3. In any case, there's a couple very interesting deleted scenes from the pilot episode on the BD release. Let's just say it involves a secret between two main characters...

Yeah I must agree with the PQ. It's nice to actually watch it how it's supposed to be. I still remember watching Season 1 for the first time and then Season 2 and seeing how Season 1 was fullscreen.

I must check them deleted scenes then.

I'm lazy to watch the original pilot, but what is the difference from the DC?

I only watched the original pilot, but I would imagine that the main difference is that the DC includes those two deleted scenes. I just remember checking the total time of the DC episode on my player and it was only off from the regular pilot by perhaps a minute or so.

I love this show so much. The only minor gripe I have so far is that I had to re-adjust my TV's brightness/contrast/color settings a bit to get that perfect picture.

Is your disc 1 OK then or what? You mentioned that you had experienced the same problem as that reviewer during the second and third episodes.

I haven't watched the third ep yet, but during the second when Willows was like "I want this" is when the freeze happened.
