Judah Friedlander looks nothing like how he did back in the movie.

EDIT: Aw, I just the actor who played the Malaysian Prime Minister died back in 2005. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0038301/

Thumbs up Zoolander 2 will be set 10 years later.

UPDATE: MARCH 1ST, 2010

ZOOLANDER 2: 10 YEARS LATER.

Quote:
Just last week we heard that writer Justin Theroux would be the man behind the long awaited Zoolander sequel. Now we have confirmation from the really, really, ridiculously good-looking male model himself as Ben Stiller talked to MTV and confirmed the sequel is on the way. "We are in the process of getting a script written. It's in the early stages, but it's gonna happen." Even better, Stiller went ahead and revealed some extra tidbits regarding exactly where we'll find Zoolander and his nemesis turned friend Hansel (yes - Owen Wilson will be back) in the sequel. They may even bringing back Will Ferrell as Mugatu in some capacity.

Stiller says the sequel will "have input from all the Zoolander people. It's just taken awhile." However, the script is apparently an amalgamation of a few different versions that have been written over the years and include a new story angle that they'll be working in as well. Sounds pretty intense. Stiller explains:

"There have been earlier scripts that ['Zoolander' writer John] Hamburg's had input on, and Nick Stoller (Get Him to the Greek) and people… we're just going to take the best of what we have. We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we're going to try to go forward. The beginning of the movie is [set] 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves."

And with Theroux previously talking about immersing himself in fashion week just to make sure the film is as tuned into the current fashion world as possible, Stiller knows this won't be the same Zoolander all over again.

"Well I think it has to be [a Zoolander for a new generation]. The fashion world, you know, you go away for a year and its changed. It just happens so quickly." So why has it taken so long for this sequel to get off the ground? Sadly, Zoolander's actual creator Drake Sather (who made short films of this for the VH1 Fashion Awards) died in an apparent suicide in 2004 and that's been a big obstacle for Stiller to overcome.

But now that time has passed, it sounds like this could be a fitting memorial for the man who created one of Stiller's best on-screen characters. So with a story that is heavy on both Hansel and Zoolander, what about the outrageous Will Ferrell fueled villain Mugatu? "If Will says yes, he definitely has to be a part of it. To me, Mugatu is one of the classic screen villains of all time." I don't know if I'd go that far, but damn it, if he wasn't one of the best parts of the movie.
Are you looking forward to this?

Enjoy.

Looks like this movie is dead because Paramount, who declined to fund an Anchorman sequel, has also declined to fund a Zoolander sequel according to Ben Stiller's Twitter page:
"Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks."

That is like one (two really) of their worst decisions honestly.

Kind of a bummer. Time to read the eugoogooly on Zoolander 2.

Hansel: So I'm rappelling down Mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip, and I start to fall. Just falling, ahh ahh, I'll never forget the terror. When suddenly I realize "Holy shit, Hansel, haven't you been smoking Peyote for six straight days, and couldn't some of this maybe be in your head?"

Derek Zoolander: And?

Hansel: And it was. I was totally fine. I've never even been to Mount Vesuvius.

I would much rather see Anchorman 2, but yet again, these comedies with great HUGE cult following are not "bankable" according to Paramount

Is Paramount being ran by a group of jackasses? This is the type of crap I'd expect from Fox than Paramount.

According to actor Justin Theroux, who co-wrote the script for the "Zoolander" sequel with leading man Ben Stiller, the new film will find aging mannequins Zoolander and Hansel (Owen Wilson) on the verge of hitting 40 and no longer top models.

"[W]e start off with them in a pretty bad place," Theroux told MTV at New York's Comic-Con on Saturday. "They're about to ring 40's bell. They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another."

Theroux, who expects the new "Zoolander" movie to hit theaters in 2012, added that Will Ferrell's villain Mugatu plays a role in the latest plot and that there's even a part for actor Jonah Hill.

""Fingers crossed, anything is possible in Hollywood, but I think you're going to see Mugatu," Theroux said. "There are a couple new villains that step onto the stage, which we are all very happy about. And yes, Jonah is the inspiration for one of them."

Why the hell does Jonah Hill have to be in it? I really never found him funny. I like movies he is in but it is never because of him. I find his time on screen to be cringe worthy most of the time.

I find that with the right material, he can be absolutely hilarious, so I'm hoping for that's the case with this script

That said, I really hope they're able to make this movie....I know Paramount all but squashed Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2 so I really hope that this sees the light of day...

The only time i found him funny was Grandma's Boy and Superbad but i have yet to see Get Him To The Greek. I wanted to see it because i love Forgetting Sarah Marshall but i held off because of Jonah. As for Zoolander 2 i bet it will come out some time. It is somewhat a cult hit i bet it will be made.

Get Him to the Greek was the first movie I really loved him in. He's actually really quite funny in it. You should check it out and see if you feel different after watching it

They say it's got quite the cult following.
Yeah, I believe that in an instant! It's such a brilliant comedy!

Agreed! My favorite Ben Stiller movie too, although I don't hate him, I am certainly not a fan of his either.

I have been waiting for this to come to BD for years now!!

This is a must buy for me. I hope it'll be released before the sequel comes to theaters.

I can't imagine they top the original, and I'd rather have that on BD now then wait for a sequel, but I try to be open-minded about it.

Zoolander is a really rare film that just makes me laugh every time I see it or even think about it. Most comedies are very forgettable to me. It is far from a perfect comedy, but I am looking forward to a sequel.

Count me in for not being a fan of Jonah Hill. I don't dislike him, but I am surprised when I find he is still getting work.
