To have any hopes to troubleshoot this we need to know what the audio system is and how it's connected to your player. If you have a surround sound system and somehow something is not configured right you could get the results like you mention.

Is your system stereo or 5.1 or 7.1 or ???
Is it hooked up via analog or Digital Coax or Optical or HDMI?
What does the Receiver say it's playing? (Dolby Digital, DTS MA, Direct....?)

There could be a problem with the disc though it's not likely since it's not more common. Still,... exchanging it could be a simple trouble-shooting step.

If you have you system mis-configured then you may be in for treat when you get that fixed.

Okay, I'll try to list what I have:

Sansui BDP3959 BD Player, connected via HDMI cable
Samsung Soundbar w/ wireless sub, connected via optical cable

They are both connected to a Samsung Series 6 LCD. The BD player is connected to the TV, and the TV is connected to the soundbar. No receiver in the equation.

Does that make sense?

Thanks again for the help!

I just don't get what people are so upset about. Anyone who saw this film in theaters would know that is was the choice of the cinematographer and most likely director David Yates as well to have this dark look to the film. It's a look that makes perfect sense to the story. The wizarding world has never seen as dark a time as that that happens before and during HBP and the transfer is about as flawless to the theactrical look as you could possibly get.

People complain when the picture is not as the director wanted it, then when it is, they complain like idiots... you can't win...

It does make sense. Sadly... all of that stuff is gear I've never had the chance to play with. If I were you I would start by hooking up the soundbar directly to the Blu Ray player and see what happens with that.

You could have a setting off on the player,... or the TV, chances are it's hard to setup the sound bar thing incorrectly.

It sounds mostly like you sound bar is getting surround channels instead of the full audio output.

That makes sense. I guess I could try to hook the bar directly to the BD Player, but I like having the extra sound available when we watch TV, because the sound output from the TV alone is pitiful.

I'll take a look at the options on the player and see if there any any options, but I haven't had any other issues with movies like Terminator Salvation, Star Trek, GI Joe, etc., so I'm not sure what setting would be affecting this film and not the others, you know?

Thanks again for the advice. Maybe this will be my chance to get the Sony BD player if it's a issue with the Sansui?

Default Potter and Half Blood Prince won't work in Bluray player

I have a Panasonic BD-60 Bluray Player and it is saying the HP Half Blood Prince Blueray DVD is incompatible. I updated the Firmware and can't tell what is going on. Has anyone else experienced this with this DVD? Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

It sounds like you were just taken back by how dark and drab the film looks, as you look at the other HP films they all seem brighter with more color but this so far is the most serious in the series and has a dark story so I believe that the look is exactly what the director wanted us to see.

I watched it on my projector and it looked great to me. It was clean and sharp even though it lacked color it most scenes. Try watching it again and just pay attention to the story, you might enjoy it more that way.

Sort of tempting... I'm doing practically nothing anyway.

If I'm going to try to check it out maybe I better start trying to get it connected now.

Been trying to find the BDP3959 (to help someone a few posts back) and I get that it's made by Orion but doesn't seem to be in the players database here.

I don't know if the player can be faulted for the audio issue you have but if it's return-able I would certainly return it and buy a Sony just due to what an obscure player it is.

There are bad BluRay players. I would take that one back if possible and go with a more common player.

who is in this right now? i discovered that if u have a ps3, and only an optical cable, u have to change ur ps3 audio settings to only put out pcm to hear the audio from the screening. took me 15 minutes to figure it out. but its pretty cool listening to them talk, watching the movie with them. daniel radecliffe said this is his first bluray he has seen! same with david the director, its always fun to hear peoples impressions of bluray when they first see it

I started listening to it.... now my kids are listening to it.

I only "view"-ed in instead of joined.

It's ok... not too compelling but D Radcliff is charming.

Listening to it now ofcourse it's just like any other movie commentary, but it's sort of cool how it's done live and we're all watching the movie at the same time
