John C. Reilly Confirmed for Marvel's Guardians

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy cast gets more and more interesting every day, with John C. Reilly now set to play Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps, in the upcoming sci-fi epic.

Glenn Close was previously reported to also be playing a character with a "leadership role" in the intergalactic space patrol Nova Corp.

Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista also star in the James Gunn-directed picture.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014.

Default Guardians of the Galaxy (8/1/14)

By the way this is shaping up, this could be the best film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2.
It seems like it should be a lot of fun and casting has been excellent, so far!
It certainly has the potential to be franchised into an epic space odyssey. Only time will tell!

Zoe Saldana: Gamora
Chris Pratt: Peter Quill/Star-Lord
John C. Reilly: Rhomann Dey
Michael Rooker: Yondu
Dave Bautista: Drax the Destroyer

Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro have also signed on.

LONG LIVE ROCKET RACCOON!

There's already a thread here (though it doesn't seem to show up in the search).

Ai agree that it's shaping up to be a whole lot of fun, can't wait

I searched and nothing came up either. I only found it, after, by manually searching thru threads. Sorry for the repeat.

Default Rumormill: Del Toro Playing The Collector?

Rumor mill is running this morning. Will see if this ends up being true.

Quote:
We now know exactly who Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan and Lee Pace are playing in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy...

Work is underway on Marvel's big gamble for 2014, its film of Guardians Of The Galaxy, which is now shooting in the UK. James Gunn is directing, and an impressive ensemble has been gathered together for the movie.

Three of the names on the cast list are Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace and Karen Gillan, and while it was suspected that del Toro was set to play The Collector, we now have confirmed from a solid source just who is going to be who in the film.

So then: Benicio del Toro is, indeed, The Collector in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Also confirming an earlier rumour, Lee Pace is definitely going to be playing Ronan The Accuser. Karen Gillan, meanwhile, will be playing Nebula in the film.

A quick rundown of just who each of those characters are, then. The Collector is one of the oldest characters in Marvel's universe, given that he dates back billions of years, protecting the universe in the way he sees fit. He can see, to an extent, the future, and it was he that foresaw Thanos, whose role in the Marvel cinematic universe has already been introduced, and is expected to be heavily expanded.

Ronan The Accuser, meanwhile, first popped up in Fantastic Four comics, and he's a member of the Kree, an alien race. He's got a fair number of superhuman powers, and while originally a villain, he has shown a more heroic side, too. For the purposes of the film, we'd imagine you don't want to get on the wrong side of him, though.

Nebula, meanwhile, is a villain and space pirate, who claimed to be the granddaughter of Thanos.

Gillan, Pace and del Toro are set then, at first at least, to be a villanous trio to go head to head with the Guardians Of The Galaxy. How much Thanos we get remains to be seen.

A full casting announcement is coming at Comic-Con at the end of the month.

I say voice of R-R...I mean it's really the only major role left unannounced.

RR has a British accent, and I'm sure they wouldn't ask Diesel to attempt that. His voice is perfect for Groot. Anyway, we can hope and speculate all day, but they're taking their time with this, and that's a huge plus.

I completely forgot Benicio del Toro was in this
Might be the best cast of any Marvel movie to date (aside from The Avengers).

I know nothing of the comic but this movie intrigues me. That might be part of the reason. But Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be really 'out there' and if Marvel pulls this off, I can see it ending up as one of their best films yet.

Plus, a talking raccoon and tree, I mean c'mon how awesome is that?

This movie is starting to sound so awesome - I get a feeling we may see an adaptation of The Infinity Gauntlet coming since Guardians is being made. I can die happy if Impossible Man has a cameo in Guardians as well.

This movie is gonna make double money now that he buffed up - i remember just being curious to go see Prince of Persia to see how Jake Gyllanhall buffed up. It's too bad Rogan or Hall couldnt get into megabuff shape for Green Hornet or 21 Jump Street. They did a good job losing weight but they could have gone all the way since they are movie stars.

It's 'Rogen' and 'Hill' and they were definitely heavier than Pratt to begin with. I remember people were surprised they lost what they did.
