That's different. Even I would be like wtf with a disc design like that.

For the broken mask, everyone who watched TDKR knows about the mask. Hell, assuming the blu-ray will have the actual theater poster art (which has Bane walking away from the broken mask) then I think things should be fine. Society isn't that retarded yet.

Yeah, the Dragon Tattoo trick was a real mindbender.

Considering the broken mask was a major promotional piece for the film, I'd hope that the masses could associate such a thing in a collector's edition. But . . . I guess as Dragon Tattoo unfortunately proved, people are dumb.

Everyone who watched GWTDT knows that Lisbeth's character is a hacker and used DVD-R's to back up media. I thought it was genius marketing from Sony and I absolutely LOVE that they did it.

I whole-heartedly agree that a special edition with the broken mask would be awesome. They did a plain Batman mask for TDK, so hopefully they announce a broken one with a nice stand for TDKR.

The description in this video (click show more and look towards the bottom), from Warner Bros. themselves, seems to confirm that Monday 12/3 is the release date. More info to come, no doubt.
Thanks for the link. Edited OP with trailer and date.

That is indeed very creative. Unfortunately, I have to admit that I would've been one of those imbeciles confused and outraged about the release had I not known about said film.

I work at MovieStop, and got at least 12-15 people calling; some confused, some DEMANDING a refund saying we sold them bootleg copies. LOL. Despite the flack we got, I explained to them it was a marketing decision by Sony and explained the whole "main character is a hacker, it was meant to go with the movie and intended-- Much like the Borat DVD having same bootleg look with the "Demorez" logo."

Edited the OP and title (here, not from viewing in the NA topics) to reflect the date with a screencap of the announced date, since it's apparently been taken down.

I always believe situations like that warrant consumers to be slightly educated about whatever home video formats they own/have, as well what exactly what it is they're buying or at least do some form of research to avoid problems like that in the future. Can you imagine those folks who had to deal with the more angry, abusive, and hostile Joe Sixpacks and Jane Soccermoms. I think selling The Dark Knight Rises with the broken mask featured in the poster probably would probably be too risky and spark outrage across the globe.

Hardly clever. Borat did the same thing first.

Except it didn't make sense for Borat, yet it works extremely well for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Look! Captain Hindsight's here!

Of course Borat did. I was saying the marketing of it tied in well with a character from the movie. I haven't seen Borat, but can understand the packaging being written in "Kahzakstan" (however you spell it), but did the bootleg disc have anything to do with the movie? Like I mentioned, GWTDT had it because Lisbeth was a hacker and used DVD-R to backup media: That's clever marketing, even if it wasn't the first to do it. It's more effective.

Exactly. It wasn't clever when Borat used it. However, GWTDT did it well as it tied in with the film.

Default Dark Knight Rises Blu Ray.

I hope there will be an IMAX Edition Blu Ray like The Dark Knight. It would look fantastic. And a 7.1 track to come along with it but i rarely see WB do 7.1 soundtrack for blu rays anymore.

Whether it's for the film's Blu-ray release or for a potential trilogy completest release next year with new transfers for BB/TDK and hopefully commentary tracks for all three films, I'd love to see the chalk bat symbol used as a cover.

Sucks to hear but it's already being confirmed no extended or director's cut from Chris Nolan on the blu-ray release

Man I really wanted to see the footage he cut out of how Bane became himself.

Trust me people are dumb. When Batman:Arkham Asylum came out the collector's edition of the game came with a batarang. It said in giant letters "BATTLE DAMAGED BATARANG". On the inside I believe there was an insert explaining why the batarang looked damaged. I worked at Gamestop at the time and corporate had to send an email to all stores because customers were returning these things as defective. Not one or two mind you....thousands of complaints. In general people do not read, assume the worst, and react before they evaluate the situation. As a retail manager I have seen hundreds of examples live and in person....and as a result can't stand most of the average Joe consumer mentalities I deal with.

I don't understand what people don't get about Nolan that these theatrical cuts are the director's cut? If Nolan thought it was important, he'd leave it in the film. If we get the deleted scenes eventually in an elaborate set later on like I suspect we will, I'd be fine with that. After all, next year is the studio's 90th anniversary and after Potter, this is their main draw.
