I guess you're right about that, it's just so jarring to take all of this in right now.

True. I've never seen anything from Lucas stating that the UOT is coming to BD for certain. What I quoted was the closest I've seen him come to not slamming the door shut entirely, lol. It gives me hope. Although, with this sale, everything is out the door and starting fresh. I guess we'd have to find out if the sale to Disney includes the rights to the theatrical versions and the excised material from the UOT that Lucas possesses. If it does, I think we'll see them. If not...

No offense but that was insane the first time you posted and it's just as insane now. And I say that as a consistent proponent of a UOT release.
I reposted because my original post disappeared. Anyway, I'm just saying Disney will make a lot of money if they do release the original trilogy. That's all. Over and out.

Steven Spielberg would probably be my first pick to direct, but it just doesn't seem like where his head is at these days, so I would be really surprised if he agreed to do it.

Peter Jackson would also be a great choice, but he has another year and a half of working on The Hobbit trilogy.

Joss Whedon would also be on my short list, but he's already agreed to direct the next Avengers movie, so I doubt he could do it.

Hmmm.....

More to the point, Disney's always been The Friend of Blu-3D, and with Episodes 2 & 3 3-D set to come out over the next year, they don't play hide and seek games with their 3D disks the way Fox did.

What I don't get is why George is so worried that Star Wars doesn't have "enough life" in them, doesn't he realize that we will all pass down the stories of Star Wars to our children and hopefully they will pass them down to their children and so on, I always knew Star Wars would never die, idk why George was worried about it, one thing is for sure, I will be passing down star Wars to my kids, 1-6 first though, and then 7-9 if they are good, otherwise it will just be 1-6, and Clone Wars, cause that series rocks!

This is AWESOME news! I thought I would never see another star wars movie until Lucas died! i'm shocked that he did it but I resepct him more for basically saying he did all he wanted to with it and he still wants to see what happens to his franchise once he is gone. Also Disney is a great company to trust his ideas to. They are definitely the company to move forward with everything that makes Star Wars great!

The Clone Wars series is what the prequels should have been...in terms of story, character development, and dare I say acting chops!

Ridley Scott
James Cameron
Pete Jackson
Stephen Spielberg

That would basically be my short list of directors I'd like to see tackle Star Wars.

I'm surprised as well that he let go of his "vision."

For over 4 billion dollars. But still.

After Robin Hood and Prometheus, you seriously want to see another Ridley Scott movie let alone a Ridley Scott Star Wars?!

I'd love PJ.

Yup...those would be my first go-to-directors as well, but they all seem unlikely for the very reasons you've already mentioned. I've seen a lot of other names thrown around, but one name I haven't seen mentioned yet is Sam Raimi. He's currently operating under the Disney banner directing Oz: The Great And Powerful. Probably not an ideal choice, but he certainly has experience handling big budget fantasy films. Depending on how well Oz is received next year he may be an option seeing as how he has nothing else lined up on his slate. I suppose Guillermo del Toro could be another consideration, or maybe Neil Blomkamp if he can knock another one out of the park with Elysium next year. Hmmm indeed...very interesting times we live in...

I wouldn't mind have Dave Filioni doing the last 3 Star Wars movies, he has done a brilliant job with the Clone Wars, and he loves Star Wars, he's already employed with Lucasfilm, so why not have him take over, he would be a fan purist too!!

Only? It's not like he really needs the money. But half of it is Disney Stock. So he's gonna be earning a bundle on everything Disney does.

Plus he still likely gets a nice fat paycheck for his consulting work on the future of Star Wars. He know what he's doing.

Great point! I can remember my Dad setting up the 8mm projector and watching the scene where Han & Luke fend off the tie fighters in the Falcon. My friends, and I, would watch that every Saturday afternoon after soccer games! No sound, but great memories, thank you George!

Curious to find out if they'll say that "Star Wars is going in the vault soon." Crank up the price as well..

This is exactly how I feel...imagine the dynamic shots he would come up with for battles too!

Dude, ur right! Please let him direct, I wouldn't be worried about 7-9 then, because he would make sure they are fully cannon to the other 6, I know he's spent a ton of time on Clone Wars but he seems so excited in every interview he is in, I love his enthusiasm, I would do anything to have him direct!

Something tells me over 4 billion dollars is already ensuring Disney is talking to him about it.

Edit: I mean Dave even successfully brought back Darth Maul! Snaggletooth and Darth Maul...C'mon!
