Sony "Mastered in 4K" Blu-ray Titles May 14 and July 16

Sony is beginning its big 4K resolution push in a big way with the upcoming release of 55" and 65" Ultra HD sets, a media server, and a selection of Blu-ray re-releases that have been remastered to take advantage of 4K resolution.
Included in the first batch of ten 4K Mastered Blu-ray offerings from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment are Battle: Los Angeles, Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver, The Karate Kid (2010), The Other Guys, Glory, Angels & Demons, The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man and Total Recall (2012). Each carries an SRP ranging from $19.99 to $40.99 and is not expected to include any of the bonus features available on the previously released Blu-ray versions. They will also be available pre-loaded on the upcoming Sony 4K media server.

It is important to note that these films are still presented in 1080p Blu-ray resolution and playable on current Blu-ray players, but are mastered in a way to take advantage of the extra resolution provided by 4K TV sets. If you've been around long enough, think back to the days of "SuperBit" DVDs and the similarities are uncanny.

Those of you willing to take the roughly $5,000 plunge and become an early 4K TV adopter will be able to own each of these wave one Sony 4K Mastered Blu-ray films beginning May 14, 2013. Pre-orders are already available from Amazon.com and linked below, followed by the official cover art.

They've done it with superbit DVD as "Deluxe", second discs including special features. Wouldn't be surprised if they did this. Wonder how fast they'll can this line of products before actual 4K Blu-ray comes out.

Can people using the words super and bit be shot into space??
The shots show marked improvement in some titles and a boost in detail in others, the colour space is not the same also negating the simplistic comparison

We've already seen the disc specs for some of these movies. When there are 20 GBs of free space and zero Bonus Features, the comparison to SuperBit DVDs is definitely appropriate.

Superbit = Less compression

Mastered in 4k = New Masters, Less Compression, New technology in the expanded colour space, New technology in the Bravia sync setup for the Sony 4k displays.

It is a simplistic troll argument, if you think that space free means it is like superbit, most superbits were over 8gb so that argument is doa.
Lots of blu-rays are missing bonus features and are bare bones when the dvd's were not, are they superbit?
Specs never tell the whole story, ever.
This is about new masters and better encoded discs, even in 2013 we are seeing compression artifacts, on a 4k display this sticks out like a sore thumb like bad Imax DMR garbage.

Why didn't Sony get the BDs right in the first place? Warner uses 6K and 8K masters w/o charging us extra money.

Why are Warner re-releasing the same out-dated discs, over and over again, in different packaging? At least Sony have attempted to correct something. Warner only bother their asses, if there's an anniversary rolling around, or a move tie-in and even then, it's begrudgingly done.

Look at Hamlet a 70mm film, the last shot at the time and one disc compressed to hell and back so that all fine detial is missing, it might as been shot on beta for all the good the 70mmm did.
