Whoever gets the BD rights will lead to their pros and cons.
FUNi=Given when happened to 3.33, yeah... Could give it a bad PE, or a good PE with lousy disc art even by NGE standards. Aniplex=Unlikely to happen as NGE is NOT an Aniplex show, it's old, and not super shiny and new. They'd gimp us on extras, both physical and on-disc, and it would go OOP within 2-3 years, and the series would never see the light of day ever again. Also we have yet to see how a non-Aniplex show looks from them. Wait and see how God Eater looks when/if they release it, that's from Bandai Visual. Aniplex Japan had absolutely no involvement with the series in Japan. Sentai=Could mess up the video quality, could have severe subtitle errors like usual if they don't re-use the ADV subs. Would probably do a very neat CE, especially given how they treated the original series as ADV (See: Platinum singles). Would allow us to get the on-disc extras ADV owns the rights to, such as this easter egg. [Show spoiler] Honestly between these options, for the NGE BD release I'd want most, I'd go with Sentai, hoping they don't **** it up and give it a CE worthy of NGE's greatness. |

That's just silly. Don't let your illogical hatred of Aniplex cloud your judgment. The core product is what matters. Only Aniplex would maintain the quality of the Japanese release. |

The only exceptions AoA has ever made to older titles have been Gurren Lagann, Bakemonogatari (Which was a few years old at the time), the Rurouni Kenshin BD's (As AoJ was doing them), R.O.D (As AoJ had recently done it), and Baccano! (Same as R.O.D). *The only reason AoA managed to get God Eater when Aniplex Japan wasn't involved was because of Anime Consortium Japan (AKA Daisuki) being on the production committee. Had ACJ not been on the production committee, it would have most likely found its way to FUNi through Bandai Visual. Quote:
As for the claim only Aniplex could maintain the quality, we don't know that. Until we see how God Eater looks, we won't know as we don't know how they're going to handle it if they release it. They may just get Bang Zoom! (Who does their DVD's) to author it. It's not an Aniplex series, so they can't just easily ask Aniplex Japan to author it like normal. My dislike for AoA (Which is more than "It's too expensive, I can't buy it, I can't buy it!"-this is the least of my problems with them) is not clouding my judgement. I just have to simply compare what's on the JP site of any given title for the release and compare it to what AoA is doing for their release. Missing physical and on-disc extras is a very common sight, has been for quite some time, and if they somehow got Eva, they'd gimp it too. Given how NGE is one of my all-time favorite series that I could buy multiple times (I already own it twice-Holiday Edition and thinpak, and I plan to get the Platinum singles with artbox for the packaging and booklets), both the physical and on-disc extras are a pretty big deal to me. I'm still hoping we eventually get those extras from the JP Platinum release that I heard we never got. For me not only is the actual show important, but also things like packaging and extras. Sentai is the best choice for the latter for NGE, especially since again we would be able to get the extras ADV owns. |

That's a pretty big deal to me as well. Those extras really are pretty fantastic and they show the passion that adv, and specifically matt greenfield, had for the show.

Any tips for finding non-bootlegs for the movies? I ended up finding a nice Platinum set for the series but the movies come in pretty generic cases. The only thing I can see is some came with posters though idk if those were being faked as well. I also noticed some had a slip case to house both films.
I stayed away from this set for awhile after seeing how well-done some of the fakes were for the thinpack release. Any help would be appreciated! |

There are only three SKUs of legit Evangelion releases in the US, namely the stand-alone singles of D&R + EoE and a box set containing both DVDs in separate cases inside a slipbox. The DVDs did originally come with folded posters, but the lack of them in a given auction listing isn't a warning sign as many people hung them on walls and such. Below are images of the DVD covers in question, sorted for your convenience. Fakes: [Show spoiler] Legit: [Show spoiler]

The TV series is available in Japan on blu-ray - or at least there's one coming - and considering how popular the title is in the US, I can't imagine an American release being too far off.
Personally, I just hope for a UK release - and not because of the region code. |

I am hoping for a sexy Korean box set to match GitS lol. Are the Manga sets really that bad? I only have the Platinum large box set for the series.

I freaking hate Sentai's subs. I was watching Nadia the other day and they cover like half the freaking screen! (4:3 doesn't help)
