If only!!!! If return to Oz got a Blu-Ray release then The Black Cauldron deserves one too! Even if only as a Disney Exclusive.

They're just two different release brands Disney has used for its Vault titles at different times (Platinum thru spring 2009, Diamond since). IF Disney continues the Vault practice, the next brand should launch in fall 2016 with Snow White, which launched both Platinum & Diamond; what it'll be called is anyone's guess. (There's also signs the Vault may be going away, at least for BD; if so the Diamond titles, or at least their movie BDs, may be simply reissued as they were in the UK. Again, for now it's anyone's guess.)

While most of the Platinums were DVD-only (with a few VHS and the last two -- Sleeping Beauty & Pinocchio -- on BD), all the Diamonds have been BD/DVD (and more recently DC) combos. Beyond that, the big difference is bonus features; Sleeping Beauty dropped more Platinum bonuses than it gained in its Diamond version, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pinocchio did the same. And odds are Pinocchio's audio error will not carry over to the Diamond.

It's not been announced yet so anything can change, and thus the need for knowing what their plans are for now is futile at the current time .... but there definitely *is* another "line" that'll be starting up following Pinnochio.
Other than the name of the line and date for it, I saw no other immediate details on the first release (which would be Snow White), but no indication of leaning towards starting a UHD set
I don't think enough people will have/already have adopted it to be relevant for them to push for in just a little over a year's time.

I'm personally hoping the name is changed from what it's labeled as now because it has nothing to do with succession for Platinum/Diamond, etc
but it does look like the Vault strategy will be continuing

Well that would explain the delay, but why did they remove it again? What purpose would that solve? If you go to Amazon now, the artwork is gone again. Amazon is screwing with us!

Why were you buying DVDs back in 2012-2013? The only DVDs I got during that time were freely included in my blu-ray purchases, and even then most places were starting to go with a digital copy instead. If anyone is still future proofing for Blu-ray, then they seriously need to find a cave somewhere. Seriously though, it is 2015, and HDTVs are easily available for less than $300 for a 60hz 1080p 42" LED HDTV and a blu-ray player can be bought for under $75. There is no need to future proof for Blu-ray, as it is already here, well established, and looking great. It hasn't been the run-away success that DVD was before it, but it is here, and you can get thousands of movies and tv shows in glorious high definition. Blu-ray hasn't been in vain, it has been amazing!

UHD Blu-ray is coming, and I can't wait for it.
I wasn't buying DVDs in 2012-2013. I've been buying Blu-rays almost exclusively (with the exception of releases not on Blu-Ray) for years. But many many were future proofing then. It was still a transition period for many and yet we're moving away, again, sooner than Blu-ray came after DVD dominated. There are still many many films not yet on Blu-ray, way less than the amount of movies on DVD when Blu-ray came on the scene, and we're moving on already? It makes buying movies a waste of my time and trying to get a complete up to date collection of say, the Disney animated classics a futile act. What about the classic Disney live-action that's just now seeing a lot released? What about a Disney Animated Shorts collection that we're finally seeing one of (Modern Shorts but still..) this year? When the Disney animated classics are finally all out on Blu-ray, I'm supposed to start over and concede that it's outdated and not worth my time anymore? I know you guys live for re-buying your entire collections every several years but when is enough, enough? Especially how niche Blu-ray was compared to DVD. Blu-ray I don't think even has even dominated DVD and they want to try a new format? Plus we're seeing even more diminishing returns when going from Blu-ray to UHD. I love my Blu-rays. Is it worth it to play that game anymore? Especially when we're starting to have to rebuy sooner and sooner each time. Now with sales low and downloads and streaming taking over. (I prefer physical myself.) who's to say how far this will even go? Will it be like the very niche SACD where currently only select albums get released on it? Plus there are a lot of releases still coming out that are still DVD-only! I have no idea and it is frustrating and I have no idea why they are DVD-only but it is very telling.

I still can't believe they took that iconic Alan Menken song and re-recorded it with a divorced couple.

I believe it was something they they did for the BD release that came out a few years ago. Surprised they didn't remove it since the two are no longer married, maybe they invested a lot in the studio time and whatnot.

It was on the Platinum Edition DVD, but I wonder if it'll be carried over onto this version.

It was for the 2004 Platinum DVD, at the height of their fame.

It will not be on the Diamond BD. None of the other Diamond editions have had the same music videos as their Platinum counterparts.

I agree in general about upgrading but I also think there will be nowhere CLOSE to as many movies released in UHD. I think it will be a much smaller selection with mostly newer movies and very few catalog titles. I just don't think most studios will spend the money to upgrade most older stuff. Not like they did with bluray for so long. Hell we can't even get True Lies, Bend it like Beckham, or Bad boys 2 on bluray and all of those were hits. I doubt were gonna see that much on UHD.

Specifically with Disney I don't expect stuff like Pocahontas, emperor's new groove and such. I expect probably Lion King. Sleeping Beauty. The big ones. And new ones moving forward. I just think it will be less of a problem of re-buying old stuff and just more of a decision on whether new stuff gets bought in bluray or UHD. I just hope there are combo packs so I don't have to buy 2 copies.

Actually, that's not entirely true.

Platinum Edition Produced Cover Music Videos Carried Over to Diamond Edition
  • The Little Mermaid (Ashley Tisdale's Kiss the Girl)
  • 101 Dalmatians (Selena Gomez's Cruelia De Vil)
  • The Jungle Book (Jonas Brothers' "I Wanna Be Like You")
  • Peter Pan (T-Squad's "The Second Star to the Right")

As criticized as Sleeping Beauty's Diamond Edition was for not including most of the popular extras, at least they did leave out Emily Osment's cover of Once Upon a Dream (which the UK re-release buyers were not spared of since they only got the Platinum Edition's Disc 1).

Aladdin's UK release had the Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey cover included. I do hope it's not included with the NA Diamond Edition release. I would probably still anticipate Clay Aiken's music video of Howard Ashman's deleted song "Proud of Your Boy" to be carried over, given how valued it was that it was put into the recent Broadway musical.
