Yeah, (what appear to be) bots are spamming pretty much everything.

To what end I have no idea but they've been pretty prolific lately.

I picked up the BD almost out of self-defense. I rented it, wasn't really crazy about it but also couldn't shake the feeling that I would regret not having it down the road. Fifty bucks and several months later I still haven't watched it but for some reason I'm still glad I grabbed it when I did.

For $50 I MIGHT have picked it up, but certainly not for the prices I'm seeing now. Ill just buy a criterion case and find some other dvd copy in a store, lol.

I have absolutely no knowledge about criterion. What is their typical release week pricing?

I think the more popular titles are $24.99, while the less obscure ones are usually $34.99 or higher.

I'm looking for films with candy colors, something like Sirk's melodramas. I know Fassbinder took great inspiration, but I'm not sure which films have great uses of color (SB, maybe you could help me with this?). Other than these two directors, who else used color in similar ways? They don't have to be in the CC, I'm just looking for more films like these.

I would say the Wes Anderson films have a great color palate. Tenumbaums and Darjeling Limited especially.

Picked up my first 3 Criterions ever at Best Buy today.

12 Angry Men
The Game
and Man Who Knew Too Much.

First two I've seen before, third is a blind buy that lots of people on here recommended me to buy.

Needless to say, I'll be buying more of these soon when my BBuy Rewardszone certificates come out!

Don't forget the random flash sales that Criterion.com has, plus the 2-3 50% off sales at Barnes 'N' Noble throughout the year.

Best Buy is good for the American titles, but the foreign ones are pretty much nonexistent in stores.

How much are they priced at Barnes N Noble?

I mean B&N usually has their Blu's priced closer to MSRP lol which is like 200% of what is in the regular retail stores.

Just curious as to how much I can save buying Criterions from B&N. Also, what type of sales does Criterion have?

During the 50% off Barnes 'N' Noble sales, the majority of the films are on-sale for $19.99 (with the exceptions of box sets, which are priced a little bit higher). By being a member, you get an additional 10% off, as well as the ability to use a $8 off of $40 coupon, and a $5 off of $50 coupon. It ends up being dirt cheap considering the price they go for.

As far as Criterion.com goes, they randomly have a 24-hour sale on their website where everything is 50% off.

Ahhh. Interesting.

May have to ask someone for a Barnes and Noble membership for my Bday in a few months.

Really enjoy Tenumbaums, haven't seen Darjeling Limited.

I have those two on my laptop, got to watch those as soon as possible. Also, which of Fassbinder's films fit the description? I haven't gotten that far in his oeuvre yet.

I'll once again mention Almodovar here--the color is one of my favorite aspects of his films.

I will get it either way...but will either wait for it to drop in price or until the next sale. $33 too rich for my blood.

Fassbinder's Lola from the BRD Trilogy draws particular inspiration from Techinicolor Sirk visually; the definition of a candy-color film if you ask me.

Godard's use of color - in particular, 60s films such as Une Femme est une Femme, Pierrot le Fou, and Made in the USA - is very striking in its saturation. They're not exactly 'candy' coated but they could fit into the vein you're looking for, especially Pierrot le Fou.

I take it you're not just looking for a Technicolor look though, as the overwhelming mass of Hollywood product from the 50s/early 60s fits into this colorful mode, if not altogether 'candy-coated'.
