Right. It needs to be dark. Every movie needs to be dark. Adult movies are dark. Jokes are for kiddy flicks. Real movies are all about solemn speeches and moody introspection and a Hans Zimmer score.

All I want to hear is that the TDKR deserved some tech noms.

Was Bane's costume in Snow White? If not, then it's not Oscar worthy! And that's all I've got to say about that!

not by the Academy....
I watched the bonus disc and will say, they did some great editing to get things to look and work the way they did, but mounting a "bat" on a car frame and driving it through Gotham then doing backend editing to remove the car is not exactly new to Hollywood.

I was going to leave the thread closed after I did what was needed to be done. If what just happened continues past this point there will be More suspensions handed out. Also I will close it again for a few days if I have too.

Please keep the discussion civil

You won't hear it from me. The same group of people doing competent work the third time in a row that was comparable to what came before it at best and slightly inferior in the eyes of most at worst? That's not worthy of celebration. Most people would call that "going through the motions." Some would call it "phoning it in."

I'm a huge Bond fan and Nolan uses a ton of those people. I respect the hell out of Chris Corbould and I admire that he consistently does believable-to-the-point-of-flawlessness practical effects and I have no doubt that he could half-ass a project and it'd still be great but that's not the point of the Oscars.

Most A-list productions are going to have craftsman who do their jobs extremely well but those same craftsman would agree that you need to go above and beyond to stand out from the crowd and command the attention and respect needed to get that nomination.

You don't need to be good or even great. You have to be exceptional. And TDKR is not exceptional in any way. There isn't a single aspect of it that is consistently cited as superior to TDK. Lindy Hemming's work is a perfect example: you can go on and on about her cobbling the Bane costume together from clever sources but how many people are gonna say the end result is better than the Joker's suit? Not many.

So again, it's not even about the competition. TDKR's biggest rival is TDK. Why would AMPAS recognize a movie in 2012 that is unanimously considered inferior in every way to its predecessor from 2008?

Let's stop fighting and just discuss about the biggest snub of the Academy Awards nominations. Tom Hardy not getting the nomination for best supporting actor as Bane!

I would have to agree that Tom Hardy's facial features was excellent in the film. Acting is just more than about seeing the lips move, but being able see their facial and body gestures in a believable manner. Being able to present ones emotions through only facial movements is hard for actors to sell. This was one of the qualities that Nolan was looking for when searching for a someone to play bane. I haven't seen every movies that was released in 2012 or who was nominated in this field, but there were some other great movies that got really good reviews. The lack of a background given of Bane for hardy to play might have caused him to be left out of the nominations. Lastly, even if he was nominated, he wouldn't have one. Christopher Woltz in Django Unchained and Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln were very good in their roles. Although, DeNiro in Silver Linings Playbook being nominated is one that could have been left off easily.

IMO, like the film, he was good...not great.
Again who is Hardy going to replace:
Arkin, no way
De Niro, maaaybe your best bet...but again this is DeNiro
Hoffman, not a chance
Jones, definitely not
Waltz, 0% chance

I get that people are HUGE fans of the Dark Knight/Nolan, but you have to subtract your bias(which is proabably impossible) and look at all the films equally. I'm a very big fan of batman, as a whole, and love Nolan's trilogy. But there is no way this film could hang with this year's competition. There are just too many good films this year and some are bound to get snubbed. Heck Mad Men was snubbed this year! What does that tell you about the competition in brilliant TV programming?
Big deal, so TDKR wasn't nominated for anything! It's still a very good film, just not a great one. Basically the academy, and all it's members, thought the same.

I'm not really surprised this got snubbed by the Academy... it's all politics, guys.

Plus, it's a superhero/comic-book film.
