It was dumb on Petrino's part, but if Arkansas fires him, than they are even more stupid. He is one of the better coaches in the country, and will always have Arkansas competitive in the SEC.

I was listening to Clay Travis of outkickthecoverage.com on the radio this morning and he said it could be tough for Arkansas to keep Petrino. He said it wouldn't have been an issue if Jessica Dorrell wasn't an employee of the football program but with her being an employee it could lead to a lot of problems. First off Petrino may have violated Arkansas state law by hiring someone with whom he had a sexual relationship, and likely violated University of Arkansas policy by hiring his mistress.

The University of Arkansas also could face multiple lawsuits over Petrino's hiring of Dorrell. First off they could get sued by anyone that applied for the job Dorrell eventually got because they didn't get a fair chance at the job. If a lawsuit was filed it could get ugly with Petrino, the AD, and numerous members of the athletic department having to get deposed under oath about their knowledge of the affair. If Petrino was riding around on a motorcycle without a helmet with Dorrell with him it's likely numerous people knew about the affair since he wasn't exactly hiding it. They also face a potential lawsuit from Dorrell. She has a case against Petrino and the university for sexual harassment, and that case could get really ugly.

I've read varying opinions about whether Petrino will survive this. Most of the opinions I've read think Petrino will keep his job, but likely with a revised contract that allows them to fire him if he does anything that makes the university look bad, and he's likely looking at a suspension too, either from the university or SEC. However, Gregg Doyel of CBS Sports is confident that Petrino will get fired.

That's my view on this case. I'm not the moral police and if the guy wqas having an affair with someone not affiliated with the school I'd say no big deal. But given the young lady is part of the athletic program makes this case extremely inappropriate and IMO a firable offense. Of course I do think Petrino survives for no other reason than the fact that he's a great coach.

Coach Bobby Petrino has been fired, ESPN's Joe Schad reported Tuesday night. AD Jeff Long called a 7:15 p.m. CT press conference to update the situation. Petrino has been on paid administrative leave since Thursday, when a police report revealed a 25-year-old female UA employee was a passenger in Petrino's April 1 motorcycle accident.

A real shame it had to come to this. He's a terrific football coach, but he did some really dumb actions.
