I usually end up paying around thirty five bucks for my Criterion films...which is a drop in the hat compared to what I used to pay for the LD's many many years ago.
Tell you the truth, not anymore. Criterion DVD's, unless they are box sets, I will not buy the single DVD's for $35.99. As for the Blu-rays, $23 or under pretty much unless it's a special Blu-ray that cost more. But with B&N, Amazon and deepdiscount, I would rather purchase them on sale.

I wish KINO would go on sale for 50% off....I would be over that as well.

I was hoping that you guys could give me some recommendations on what CC Blu's I should look into next. So far I have Kagemusha and Pierrot le fou. I watched Kagemusha and absolutely loved it, but I have yet to watch Pierrot le fou.

A few CC titles that interested me were The 400 Blows, 8 1/2, Gomorrah, Che, Wings of Desire and Chungking Express. What are the "must-haves" in the BD CC? All suggestions are welcome and wanted! Thanks!

My favorite Criterion BDs are 8 1/2, Last Year At Marienbad, Paris Texas, Pierrot le fou, and Wings of Desire. Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express are also amazing. Those are all ones I would strongly recommend.

Gomorrah and Che were extremely well done, but didn't do it for me anywhere near the other films mentioned.

I watched "Paris, Texas" a couple days ago, and I can't recommend it enough.
I loved it. I think it's a must-own Criterion blu-ray.

Just finished watching "Gimme Shelter" and this is one film that I have always wanted to have in my collection and I'm so grateful for Criterion releasing it in HD.

But what a time capsule this documentary came to be, watching it now. Dubbed by Rolling Stone Magazine as "Rock & Roll's Worst Day". I was complete in awe after watching the documentary and to see in contrast to Woodstock which was about love and peace several months earlier and then to see over 300,00 people at the Altamont Speedway, enjoying the music but then seeing what would eventually take place with between the crowd and the Hell's Angels.

Poor planning, bad logistics, what could go wrong, went wrong and it was quite interesting to read about what had taken place decades later including an alleged assassination attempt on Mick Jagger's life due to what took place between the Rolling Stones and the Hell's Angels.

Still have to watch the special features but man... this Blu-ray is awesome!

By any chance has anyone watched Sam Green's documentary "Lot 63, Grave C" based on Meredith Hunter (the man murdered during the Stones concert)?

I finally watched Paris, Texas for the first time last night. I have about a dozen Criterion Blus now and this one is by far my favorite movie. Might even be among my top 10 movies of all-time. And I've seen a LOT of movies.

That's been up since November. The sale is not on, although rumors would indicate that a new one may be in the offing next month.

Hi everyone, new to the site, but I've been lurking for quite some time on this thread. I've actually read the whole thread at this point! But I wanted to thank you all for turning me on to Criterion. I first picked up The Seventh Seal, and was so impressed that now I have all the released blus (except Third Man, missed out on that one) and have even pre-ordered all of the releases through April!
Quick question, with the B&N sale's 50% off, doesn't that mean that most would end up at roughly $20? I haven't paid much more than that on Amazon (most single discs I paid21-27). I'm wondering if there's something I missed and that I should have held off until this sale, but if it's only a couple bucks difference it doesn't seem like it'd be worth the wait...not that it matters for me now, but since I've pre-ordered all of the upcoming, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something here.

In the past they've had a 5 dollar off coupon during the sale. So 40 (50% off) =20 (-5) =15 (-10% member discount) = 14.30ish after tax.

OK, seems I did miss out...does that work on pre-orders as well?

Only if the pre-order date is within the dates that the sale is going on.
