I think it's the fact that she's an employee of the athletic department and Petrino lied about the incident. As usual the coverup is worse than the crime.

From what i've read , Long (AD) decimated Petrino at the news conference. Thought he was bigger than the program, that this wasn't a big deal, wasn't contrite, chose his mistress from 158 applicants, then gave her $20k under the table (hello IRS). Im guessing she no longer has a fiance

Didn't know about the cash payment. But is that really illegal from Petrino's point of view? I thought receiving the money and not reporting it was a crime, not paying it out.

First time, she can fill out a gift form for I believe up to 50k and not have to pay any taxes. Soooo legally they didn't do anything wrong.

Any gift of over $13,000 must be reported to the IRS and taxes over the $13,000 exemption are due. It is Petrino (the donor) that is responsible for the gift tax and not Dorrell (the donee) unless special arrangements were made. Arkansas AD Jeff Long said the gift was made around Christmas so it was likely made in 2011, so Petrino would have to include the gift and pay taxes on it when filing his 2011 taxes.

I really thought Petrino was going to survive this due to his record and the team's expectations going into next season. I'll be curious what they do about the coaching job now. It's going to be tough to find a quality coach that's willing to join the team in April so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up keeping the interim coach this season.

I think Petrino will end up with a pretty good job after next season. He didn't do anything illegal or break any NCAA rules and schools are going to look at his record at both Louisville and Arkansas and decide he's worth the risk.

Psh I'll drive him down to UMD myself

Wasn't aware it was so low for the year! I guess when it was originally passed it was 50k, so he's got a little explaining to do there.

From what I read, he was fired because he deceived the AD. He didnt' disclose the entire situation after the accident, and it was only after the police report went public that the school realized they weren't told the entire story.

Look, I realize he is a good coach, but good leaders lead by their actions as much as their words. He might not have broken any football rules, but he broke life rules. And once kids see that breaking rules is an ok thing to do, you end up with a rogue program with a bunch of thugs.

He was a joke the way he left Louisville, he was an even bigger joke with how he left the Falcons, and he's a joke with what he did with the razorbacks. That being said, I think lots of football fans would look past his indiscretions to be in a national title position.

I would

I think fate is dead on with his prediction. Petrino, while far from a good human being, is too good of a coach to stay unemployed for long. Who knows, maybe it'll be your Terps.

There was a rally for pro-Petrino but only like 200 fans showed up.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...-bobby-petrino

Quote:
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Approximately 200 people gathered at a popular tailgating spot on the Arkansas campus Monday night to voice their support for scandal-ridden Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino.

The 51-year-old Petrino was put on paid leave last week after he didn't tell his boss right away that a 25-year-old female football program employee was riding with him during an April 1 motorcycle crash. Petrino, who is married with four children, also admitted to an inappropriate relationship.

Kevin Trainor, a spokesman for athletic director Jeff Long, said the investigation was "ongoing" Monday. Punishments could include a suspension or even firing a coach who has put up a 21-5 record the past two seasons.

Then with a big game looming Petrino will leave a post-it note for his Maryland players in the locker room telling them he's taking a better job before slipping out of town in the middle of the night.

Agreed, it's rarely the actions that bring people down, it's the cover-up afterwards

Bobby Petrino's cell phone records were released yesterday, and he and Jessica Dorrell exchanged over 4,300 text messages and 300 phone calls over the last 7 months. This included talking for over 5 hours on the day before Arkansas played Vanderbilt and early morning calls on 4 days in a row before the team played Alabama.

I don't understand Petrino using his school issued cell phone in this manner. He was making $3.5 million, spend the money to get a second cell phone for your affair that isn't subject to open records requests. Even if this accident never happened it's possible a reporter could have filed a Freedom of Information Act request and started looking into the frequency of Petrino and Dorrell's communications.

I think it was a situation of Petrino thinking himself invincible. He had the mindset that he has brought the program back to top ten status, and he sounds like he honestly believed he could win a national title at Arkansas. As Slec perfectly said the other day, he felt he was above the program.
