BTW I think he would be happy with 4 CB-20 regardless even those could handle your amps actually.
I was actually thinking of giving him my XPA-5 if he bought something with pre-outs and going with mono's all around. I figured the XPA-5 would be a descent amp for the Energy's he's looking at, him buying a new AVR is a long shot though.
We didn't listen to anything today as they had the demo room filled with boxes in front of all the speakers. How's the center?

Here is the good thing tho.

Energy speakers are pretty efficient. While I was using my Sony receiver there wasn't a time where the receiver seemed warm or struggled to produce power to the Energys. My sony was only about 55 x5, and 50 x7. With the Energy CF-50s you get a speaker thats very efficient at 96 dbs and 8 ohm. The CB20s drop to 92 dbs, yeah, still efficient, but the CF-50s will probably make the most out of the power they are given.

When you can convice the guy to buy a new receiver, something like a Pioneer elite, or Denon/Marantz, Onkyo 70X, would probably power the speakers without needing an amp.

You mean the C-C10?, It not too shabby it performs well it is quite surprising and surely the XPA5 would certainly help if he had a receiver with preouts. It nowhere comparable to yours nor mine but this setup witha great sub would not take too much away from the mivie experience. How about getting the CF-30?

Their footprint is quite small.

The Center channel is pretty good, its a 3-way design. My OSP was sold on the Energy CF70/CC10 over the B&W CM9/CM Center2 setup in Best Buys HT room they have here locally. The Energy setup was performing as good as the B&Ws. My OSP couldn't believe that the Energys at 1/3 the cost were performing at that level.

The XPA-5 would probably grab those drivers well enough to put some real good dynamic swings into them.

Well well well if it's not Steve, I go to my friend's place once in while and evry time I am disapointed with the output of the DE2400ES altho the sound is quite nice and natural. It did not come anywhere close to the HK I had in terms of dynamics and power. I am sure your Integra would have been great to drive them actually.

I agree on the Onkyo 70X or even the 60X would be much better. Regardless the can still handle all the power of the XPA5 and I would surely make them sound great.

We'll see what happens tomorrow, he wants to check out some on wall Def Techs as well before deciding. I'd take the Energy's hands down but it's not my system nor my money, I can only advise. I tried to help him out with his last purchase of the Digms and told him not to buy the Cinema's. This time will probably be no different, he'll buy what he thinks is best no matter what anyone has to say. He usually does the opposite of what my opinion is with everything even though he asks for help with some things.

I honestly don't think that he'll be able to get as good of a deal on the DTs. But he has to do what he wants OF COURSE.

The Sony was decent... but yeah, it pales in comparison to the Integra. The Sony did start to get hot powering the X16s, which is why I wanted the Integra before the center channel.

I don't think he will either, the funny thing is that his tv isn't wall mounted and he refuse's to mount it. He thinks he can mount the speakers behind and above the tv, hey at least I don't have to listen to it.

Since he's considering on wall Def techs and the Energy's take a guess at which ones he's considering wall mounting.

I checked my tracking from Vanns for my RC-10's and I won't get them until Wednesday. It's all good because it's an hour 8 work week all next week so I'll be home earlier that day to set things up rather than doing it on my normal time when I get home at 6:30pm when I'm rushing to prepare for the next day.

I guess it would help to READ and not skim thru a post... Anyhow when you were discussing def tech I immediately went to thinking the 8020s or 8040s bi-pole designs.

If he was going to wall mount, I would think at least the Mythos XTR40s, which are really thin and would look best being mounted, but 3 of those are $1500 add say the XRT20BPs as surrounds, thats what like... almost another $600. The Frequency Response on those speakers tho is crap, I don't think any of them get lower then 90 hz, even the top of the line XRT60s(EDIT: the 60s get to 70 hz[supposedly]).

Then again, like you said without the TV being wall mounted, that would look like crap. Wall mount the L/R speaker then place the center channel in front of the TV on the TV stand? No way.

Well I just got back from looking at more speakers with the father in-law, he didn't go with any of the choice's discussed. He instead decided to go with a set of Polk's, figures I guess. Remind me never to help relatives with this kind of thing again.

He bought the R 50's, I looked on the Polk site and can't even find them. They're the most budget conscious towers that Future Shop sells, I don't remember what the other speakers are, I tuned out after hearing about the R50's.

WOW. I would have kept the Paradigm Cinema's. Ive heard the Cinema;s, not great, but decent for a higher end HTiB.

here you go, they were discontinued a few years ago I thought.

I can relate! My mom asked me for advice on a new tv. I looked up reviews, prices, etc and found a good deal on a panasonic viera at best buy. What does she buy? A Wal Mart Vizio for $50 less. When I asked why she didn't buy the panasonic she replies, "I don't like the name"
