The nuke-hauling rotary-winged bat machine was at least 20 miles offshore when the bomb exploded. It went that distance in about 10 seconds. rate x time = distance

Estimated speed at detonation = 20 miles/10 secs x 60 secs/1 minute x 60 minutes/1 hour = 7,200 mph That's some good comic book imagination hollywood style

Okay. Well, keeping in mind that it's only a movie set in a mythical location, according to the site you linked to, we still have to assume : bridge height, that the earth is a perfect ball with a 6,378,137 meter radius, and that the horizon is at sea level. That's a lotta assumptions - based on a movie. Also, given that "Robin" and the kids continued to watch the Bat fly off, no way it was going 7,200 mph. Personally, I still like the smoking explanation, it would be lots more fun (math was never a big turn-on for me).

conceded in my original post...."That's some good comic book imagination hollywood style"

Hollywood, California is where they make movies....hence the phrase hollywood style. i.e. a fiction comic book made into a movie and only a movie as some here want me to understand

IMO, all this about the Bat making 10 miles off shore as "Robin" watched is no more a stretch than Bruce having his back broken, then "fixed" by simply pushing the protruding spine back in (which, in the context of adapting the Knight Falls saga for a three hour movie, I had no problem with)...

ok then let's say it accelerated to 200 mph. And let's say it was 35 seconds flight time from the bridge to detonation: distance traveled would be only about 2 miles...

Yeah, the spine thing ... anyone with serious back problems (not to mention the knee) would have to shake their head ("Your spine is protruding. Here, let me fix that for you").

Not to bust your chops. The whole countdown/nuclear blast, he's in/he's not in the Bat, he's alive/he's dead ...

It's a movie, if any movie, especially action and scifi, was done with true reality, there would be no movie. Hollywood does stuff to make the movie be more fun to watch and not boring real life stuff. The point of going to the theaters is break away from reality.

The breaking of your back depends on the type of break. If one of your vertebrae is dislocated, and technically breaking ones back, replacing it and letting your body heal is possible in a 5 month time frame. As long as it isn't severe break, which disrupts any signal from brain to spinal system causing paralysis, it can be fixable even without a doctor doing surgery. It all depends on the type of back injury and breakage, which was never truly explain. Which is perfectly fine by me since its more into the supernatural to Bruce Wayne's character for the movie.

What on earth does that have to do with you trying to apply real life physics to a fictional movie?

Just stating the obvious in a good make-believe movie...And we all know you really do care. Very interesting responses so far.
