I appreciate that but I'm not talking about duty I'm taking about EUR49 fees the couriers slap on as a ransom fee for delivering your item through customs, regardless of value.

That's Portugal, other EU-dwellers have similar horror stories, if not quite as high a charge in their respective region.

But you'd get that with or without UK VAT, surely? The only way it's avoided is if - like Amazon - the seller handles the local VAT (in your example, Portugal's VAT).

If - like Arrow or Powerhouse - they don't handle the local VAT, it's still an improvement to remove the UK VAT, as the local VAT (and indeed overall amount you pay) will be less, even if the outrageous courier fee remains the same.

Small world, I'm Portuguese too! I think I know what you mean, but it's been a long, long time since I went through that, and it was with UPS. I remember contesting it, and winning. My Arrow orders have been delivered by CTT, though, so a standard customs fee is all I'm expecting.

In my experience, Arrow has shipped everything to me using Royal Mail which should then come through via your domestic postal service. If customs say there's any VAT to be owed then that's all you should have to pay to release it.

BBFC Rating page for this is up:

https://www.bbfc.co.uk/release/shogu...jpwwc01mtqynzi

There appears to be NO info there if they cut it or not though.

From the Rock Shock Pop forum:

Quote:
The certified run time is 85, whereas the old DVDs are supposed to be 96? The BBFC would say if they required cuts so it looks like a shorter cut or pre cut. Arrow have always advertised it as 85, even the US version. They wouldn't pre cut the US version so looks like they were given a shorter cut?
Quote:
The Austrian BD/DVD combo from Shock Ent. lists a 96 min. runtime for the BD and a 92 min. runtime for the DVD:

https://shop.dtm.at/product_info.php?products_id=75815

The Japanese Wikipedia page also lists a 96 minute runtime for the theatrical release version, which should be identical to the BD runtime:

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%BE...BD%B0%E5%8F%B2

So either the 85 minutes thing is an error (by both the BBFC and Arrow?) or they butchered it. Apparently discs have already been shipped out to folks, so we should know more soon.
Quote:
Must be an error, though that's some unbelievable sloppiness on BBFC's part. They of all people should know how long a film runs.

My Toei DVD runs exactly 96:00.
Quote:
It's not just the BBFC website. Arrow's own shop and amazon also list the runtime as 85 minutes.

Quote:
Yeah, I meant that Arrow probably made the mistake and then BBFC just copy-pasted it... which is unbelievable sloppiness considering the business they are in. You'd think a censorship office would know exactly how long a film they've examined runs...
Can anyone who recieves this soon, confirm the ACTUAL running time please?

The version of Shogun's Joy of Torture on Arrow-Player runs 96 minutes 6 seconds, 1h36 on Arrow Video on Amazon Prime too - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/de...7-e29d6f5df403

Seems quite unlikely that the disc version is any different.

IMDb lists 1h 25 minutes as the runtime - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059816/ - which may be Arrow's source. Though while I was checking again it also says 96 at the bottom, so I suspect something odd is going on. IMDb runtimes aren't reliable anyway.

In fact if you delve into the tech specs on IMDb:
"1 hr 25 min (85 min) (Germany)
1 hr 36 min (96 min) (25 fps) (Netherlands)" and the certifications show that the West German version at least was cut.

An update on Shogun's Joy of Torture, a poster at Rock Shock Pop got their review copy and the Arrow disc runs 96:07.

So Arrow made a small mistake (I see incorrect runtimes on the back of releases a lot, especially older 88 titles).

But for the BBFC that’s horrendously sloppy. Their entire job is to have the correct run time for films submitted and notify if any cuts were made.

No, actually you are right after all - until the July 1st change kicks in, they can either take off the VAT and let the customer deal with it, or charge the country's VAT:

Apologies Arrow! And apologies mother for the barrage of packages you are about to receive until July...

That's exactly what I meant - I was under the impression it was their obligation to do so, but I was mistaken.

Why is Arrow only removing VAT for EU customers, they should be doing it for ALL international customers!

Não sou tuga! Isto é, ainda não....

Thanks for that - I was trying to dig out some old delivery alerts to try and figure out whether it was CTT or DPD who were bringing them.

Do CTT do any of the desalfandegamento shenanigans? I've had stuff come by them from the US but it's usually under the EUR22 and when over, I've never had one stopped.

Glad to see that Arrow is removing the UK VAT now and just placed a new order for Battle Royale.

Would've been nice with Demons as well, but too late for that one. EDIT: Having said that, won't hurt to ask if they can still adjust - nothing to lose. EDIT: And been promised a VAT refund now.

No idea about Portugal but in Germany you can write to the post company that you don't want them to deliver the customs packages to you and with that charge you with the customs fee plus an additional ransom fee. The downside is that you have to pick the package up at the customs office by yourself and then pay the customs fee there. I still prefer that though since in the past for some orders I had to pay more in ransom fee than I had to pay customs fee, which is just insane.

So, I believe we'll be getting an Academy title announced this week and I think it will be the WWS hint. Could be a Video title as well, but something tells me it's going to be an Academy title. Have there been any guesses for what this could be?

Is there even the teensiest bit of news about Arrow doing Hercules in the Haunted World? Apart from Whip and the Body they have done almost all the Bava releases in the UK.

The US release from Kino has multiple versions but no English audio on the 91 min Euro cut and issues with the audio on the US version. The German release has clear English audio for the Euro cut, but no alternate versions and no English subs for the video extras. Arrow could do a "Best of both worlds" release here and maybe add some stuff.

I have the German release of Hercules, and the prologue missing from other versions is in Italian with English subs and then English for the rest of the movie if you select English audio. Obviously no English subs for the Italian audio though. But a decent enough compromise.
