In the April 16, 2012 edition of ESPN The Magazine, there's a multipage Speical Report on the Penn State Scandal by Don Van Notta Jr.

It's about Sandusky in part, and about the board that fired Paterno, and the polictics behind that firing.

It's the "One Day, One Game" issue with Derrick Rose and Norris Cole on the cover.

Two players from Auburn's football team of last season were shot and killed. RIP

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...illed-shooting

Quote:
Two players from last season's Auburn football team were shot to death late Saturday night at an apartment complex near the school's campus in Alabama while an offensive lineman who remains on the team was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

They were among three people who were killed and another three who were injured in the shooting, police said Sunday.

Ladarious Phillips, 20, the Tigers' only true fullback last season as a sophomore, and ex-lineman Ed Christian, 20, who was a redshirt freshman, were killed when a gunman opened fire after a fight started at the University Heights apartments in Auburn between 10 and 11 p.m. local time, police and a witness said.

Eric Mack, a sophomore lineman for the Tigers, was also shot and remained in the hospital at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Ala., officials said. Phillips died at the scene.

Christian had not been playing football because of a back injury.

"This is a trying time, not only for university students and athletes, but it's young people," Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said in a Sunday afternoon news conference. "It's six young people that have been shot. As you can tell, the community is shaken by this and grieving today."

Dawson said federal, state and local law enforcement agencies were actively hunting for a suspect identified as Desmonte Leonard, 22, of Montgomery, Ala. A warrant for three counts of capital murder had been signed and issued for Leonard, Dawson said.

Dawson asked if anyone knew of Leonard's whereabouts to call 911 but that he was to be considered "armed and dangerous." Dawson urged Leonard to turn himself in and also said authorities were searching for two other persons of interest.

Very sad. One of the kids shot was from SC. Thankfully he will make a full recovery. With better news my Clemson Tigers get the #1 recruit in the nation today, Robert Nkemdiche. He follows his two high school team mates in joining the Tigers.

Crazy stuff. Best of luck with that defense Kevin.

Kevin Ellison arrested for arson

Kevin Ellison, once one of the top defensive backs in the nation for the USC Trojans before being sidelined by a knee injury as a senior, has been arrested on federal arson charges after he reportedly told investigators he set his bed ablaze with a marijuana-filled cigar because "God" told him to.

According to local media, Ellison confessed to starting a fire that engulfed an apartment early Thursday morning in Liberty Lake, Wash., near Spokane, after initially telling authorities he had been smoking in bed. Ellison, who played briefly for the San Diego Chargers after college, has been playing linebacker for the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League.

Ellison reportedly jumped from the third-story unit but sustained only smoke inhalation.

Ellison, upon a follow-up interview in the hospital, confessed, citing the request by God, and said separately to another investigator "that he just wanted to get out of it and for it all to go away," according to The Spokesman-Review, which cited federal court documents.

Spokane Valley Fire Marshal Kevin Miller told the newspaper federal arson charges were standard for arson cases involving large apartment complexes. Ellison was arrested later Thursday.

Turns out that infamous Sandusky interview with Costas was edited for TV. The remainder of the interview is now public and in it Sandusky incriminated himself VERY badly. Unless his lawyers can get that tape excluded from the trial he's in even worse shape. I'm still amazed his attorney ever allowed that Costas interview to happen. It was devestating to his defense.

That is more of a slip of tounge than anything. Not to defend the guy, but it sounds more like he was caught in a thought than admitted to preying on young boys. The strength of the case lies in the testimony of those victims.

Did they ever announce his punishment for his marijuana and possession of a controlled substance arrest? I would think he would be suspended a game but with their opener a prime time ESPN game against Auburn I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't miss any game time.

No not yet. You may be right about no games bit speculation is 1 game to maybe the first half. PTI may be in his future and the charge will go away but the video of the arrest is still there. Probably find out in September for sure.

You honestly think this was just a slip of the tongue? It sure came off sounding incriminating to me.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/cowle...ky-record.html

“Well — you might think that,’’ Sandusky said. “I don’t know. In terms of — my relationship with so many, many young people. I would — I would guess that there are many young people who would come forward. Many more young people who would come forward and say that my methods and — and what I had done for them made a very positive impact on their life. And I didn’t go around seeking out every young person for sexual needs that I’ve helped. There are many that I didn’t have — I hardly had any contact with who I have helped in many, many ways.’’

Ugh, I have this horrible feeling that we are going to have a hung jury in the Sandusky case. With no physical evidence, its going to be "he said" vs "he said" and I'm not sure they'll get all 12 on board. I wish his son wouldn't have waited until after the jury went into deliberations to make his statement, but I can see how he might not want to further/publically upset his adoptive mother.

I'll bet he gets convicted on the bulk of the charges. One kid charging rape in one thing. The number of victims being double-digits is another. IMO the defense put up very little defense for Sandusky. Even the guy's wife didn't sound very credible. Seems like the media thinks because some jurors have strong ties to Penn St. they'll be more favorable to Sandusky. I very much doubt that is the case.

I've heard that multiple times as well in the media and I just don't understand why someone associated with Penn State would be favorable to Sandusky. He has put the school in a terrible light, will likely cost the school tens (if not hundreds) of millions in settlement and legal costs when the victims sue the school, and put a permanent black mark on Joe Paterno's career. If I was associated with Penn State I would have only negative feelings towards Sandusky and wouldn't hesitate to put him in jail for the rest of his life.
