Default Edge of Tomorrow

Just watched Edge of Tomorrow. Good 3D, interesting aliens, good acting, an okay story, even a few subtle pop-outs and a couple not so subtle but don't blink or you'll miss them. Overall, one of the more enjoyable 3D movies in my collection.

Spot watched:
- The Taking of Tiger Mountain: Doesn't get much better than this --> demo disc

- Creature from the Black Lagoon: one of my strongest experiences during the shark tank scene. One of them was about 6 feet out into my living room.

Watched on 119" screen w/optoma rf emitter

LOL, watched it earlier this evening, bought off the Bay after seeing gazadams post last week, although its not in 3D I prefer the first movie and had to watch it dozens of times when my daughter was a toddler, she absolutely loved it.
We have a Russian blue cat just like the grey one from MEOW in the second movie, they have a lovely temperament.

oh ugh - you just reminded me I still have to watch 'Tiger Mountain' - not that that's a bad thing, it's just finding the time.

'Creature's 3D is outstanding and should be in a top ten list of best 3D blurays (...ever) IMO. holy crap! on a 119" screen that'd be a bit jarring.

Default Pacific Rim

Just watched Pacific Rim. Outside of the horrible comic relief, an enjoyable film. The disk went right to the menu without making me watch previews, always a plus for me. Best of all, despite few front of screen moments, the best 3D I've seen in a long long time. This breaks into my top five for 3D.

3D wise Pacific Rim is near perfect. I really don't like the movie much though. I prefer ALL of the Transformers movies to Pacific Rim. I expect better from Guillermo Del Toro, well I don't anymore after seeing Pacific Rim and Crimson peak but I used to expect better!

Pacific Rim is an amazing 3D experience. Sure, the movie is what it is, but it's the type where 3D, if done right, shines. It was done right, and, it's with Ron Perlman!

You piqued my curiosity. What are your top five 3D?

Last night I watched Avatar 3D. It has earned its title as the Gold Standard of 3D, and I cannot dispute it. The 3D is done perfectly, bringing the viewer into a new world. The forest scenes are the most creative, colorful and beautiful I've ever seen in a movie. The battle scenes are very 3D. Even the control room, with its computerized panels, seems like I'm there. While there are other great 3D movies, this is on the top of the list of must have 3D. A small complaint, but I wish Cameron had used the extended version (which I prefer).

Finest Hours
Movie 2.5/5
3D 4/5
3D is very good, immersive and improves the impact of the film.
The film could've done with about 20 minutes trimmed out it, it drags like a mofo most of the time when it should've been an exciting and thrilling experience.

Not that I have any idea of what Fox's plans are, but you could be waiting a while. Avatar 2 won't be out for another two years.

Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince)

Finally found the the time to watch this with my wife. It's a nice and emotional tale but it couldn't touch me as strongly as I would have expected it to.
The 3D was OK but a bit underwhelming. The stop motion parts looked better and more convincing in my eyes than the CGI parts.

Mermaid 3D

This is a weird one. Starts off like a kids film but ends up like a snuff film. Evil big business types are threatening the existence of mermaids (and an octopus man) so a mermaid is sent on an assassination mission. Splash! this is not. Everyone acts goofy but the big business types have no qualms about slaughtering the fish-folk so the fish-out-of-water comedy sits uneasily alongside the environmental message. And even then the film cops out by focusing on an easily-switched off anti-fish sonar system rather than China's contribution to world pollution levels.

The 3D is respectable, I find it hard to say anything much about it. That's not a bad thing, good depth and a few pop-outs make it definitely up to Hollywood standards if not Tsui Hark (who cameos) standards. There's a fair bit of looney-tunes CGI and greenscreening in the film which isn't quite up to Hollywood standards and I'm sure would look a lot worse in 2D, though the octopus man is extremely well done. The sheer weirdness of the film makes it one I will watch again at some point though.

While researching the movie I saw they had a part one. It's on Netflix so I save some money. I'll be watching it soon.

Beowulf
Hugo
A Christmas Carol
Pacific Rim
The Bubble

Without 3D, I probably would never watch the Bubble or Pacific Rim again. Ditto for Creature from the Black Lagoon which just got nudged out of the top 5. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind at any moment.

From what I have read, those are good choices. Unfortunately, I have not seen Beowulf or A Christmas Carol (only seen both in 2D), or The Bubble. I have Hugo 3D. But I have the ghosting problem many have seen. When the problem doesn't occur, it's an excellent 3D. We agree on Pacific Rim.

For what its worth, my top five immersive 3D movies (excluding animation and documentaries), with the disclaimer my choices can change at any time, are:

Avatar
Pacific Rim
Life of Pi
Gravity
Guardians of the Galaxy

And 3 others from a trusted seller here

My top 5 only in terms of 3D experience:

1. Sammy's Tale

I liked the 3D in Gods of Egypt, though movie is just crap.
