I'm really if he'll be doing mocap, live action, or both in this film. Glad he loves the script. ![]() |

Let's not discount J.J.'s contributions to geekdom as a writer, director and producer: Alias, Lost, Fringe, the better half of the Mission Impossible film franchise, Star Trek, Cloverfield, Super 8 (believe it or not, there are those of us that really loved the last three). As Andy is an aspiring director (having been the 2nd unit director of The Hobbit trilogy) and producer, I can totally see how he would look up to J.J.
It's a relief to read that the screenplay was the priority in bringing this series back to life after, since it was obviously an afterthought for the prequels (and thank God J.J.'s usual writing crew of Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof were kept away from this project). |

They said the same thing about his Trek scripts and they are god awful so I think we need more than a grain of salt. I wonder, think they will redesign the Falcon like they did the Enterprise? After all, it has been 30 years and Han is a hero - I am sure they could really make it look spiffy!

Agreed. When I first saw all those flares in his productions (which actually don't look like lens flare - they look like something else), I thought it was some anomaly of digital projection. It really took me out of the story. It's one thing when a lens flare is seemed to be caused by the sun. It's quite another when it doesn't seem to have a source and it's this annoying blue streak flashing horizontally across the screen. In Star Wars, it would make it seem like someone accidentally turned on a light saber and is pointing it in the wrong direction.
He shouldn't tone down the lens flares for this film. He should eliminate them completely. They are totally unnecessary. |

I agree. Lindelof could screw up a script if Vladimir Nabokov gave him one that he wrote to look over. I hope that Lawrence Kasdan and the other writers give Abrams such a great script that even he can't screw it up.

Under his direction. People seem to forget that he produced and directed them - nothing got done without his okay which means they were written in his style. Why expect anything he writes to be different? That's what concerns me - he allowed some pretty bad decisions with Trek considering it was already 40 years old and well known. What is he going to do here? He seemed so insistant that the original cast be a big part of the film - is he dooming the movie to be his ultimate fanfilm instead of pushing the boundaries of what Star Wars could be and make a true, good sequel? For all the talk of what he changed in his Trek films, a majority of it was just surface changes instead of really taking the opportunity to show what a big budget Trek film could be when you are free of the history. I am hoping the script is idiot proof but in the end, he is director and producer(and co-writer in this case) - he has pretty much final say when all is said and done.
