Yeah, Kino Insider confirmed in their thread that MGM's rights to the Truffaut films are expiring at the end of their license. Which probably means that Radiance want to get their release out ASAP.

They wouldn’t joke about sh*t like this so I don’t think it’s a tease.

On the Alan Rudolph front, I'd love to see Radiance tackle Trouble in Mind, I love that film and it's gorgeous Mark Isham score. It's a fine film that deserves some boutique attention on the home video front, where it's been horribly served so far- I think here in the UK it only had a barebones DVD, nothing since.

Shame about the delay. My order from the Planet of Entertainment sale just turned up this morning though - a Japanese triple-bill of Black Tight Killers, By a Man's Face Shall You Know Him, and A Story Written with Water... so I am one happy bunny. Royal Mail are smashing it recently with their delivery times.

leaving things last minute suggests submissions to retailers don't actually happen until the same time the announcements are made, which explains why we're waiting a week until we're free to order elsewhere.

This is probably why Eureka and BFI submit theirs shortly before announcements. Somehow Arrow generally don’t spoil their announcements (in the UK at least) and they appear on most retailers quite soon after they’ve been announced (same for Second Sight). Amazon are the slowest at approving listings it seems as there have been loads of issues with labels in the past, notably smaller ones like Second Run and Third Window.

I suppose Radiance have decided they don’t want their titles spoiled early by people seeking out retailer listings in advance, but they should at least put the listings up just before they announce so people aren’t waiting a week plus! At one point I was waiting nearly 2 weeks and actually contacted Fran…

it's probably a timeline adjustment radiance could do with making. must be an amazon guideline on how long they take, and some labels account for it. 48 hours would be my guess, probably working days. if there's a single day before a weekend, you might wait until tuesday for them.

iirc, i've seen amazon spoil arrow in the past ... maybe? definitely seen it on eureka. arrow and third window seem to opt out of amazon these days though, on fees grounds?

i don't really follow BFI - most labels only turn up things of interest to me very rarely, so much so that things are probably being missed because mailing lists can be unreliable. i've started to find some mailing lists don't bother with you if you haven't visited the relevant site recently. other than this, company sizes vary, and execution of issuing emails can be flat out unreliable.

Bare in mind Arrow don't sell their titles via Amazon anymore either.

Maybe the delay in listing them elsewhere also bumps up direct sales. Amazon take a big chunk of the selling price, every direct order probably makes Radiance the equivalent of multiple amazon orders.

yes. but frustrating potential customers into a particular source isn't good business. the idea is to make things available to buy, and for people to pay for buying them.

i think TWF have argued in the past there was a balance between fees charged by amazon and exposure gained. far more sales through amazon, because it's such a mainstream retailer. labels have since shifted to selling directly, to make more money, or through their mates. doesn't account for hmv discount codes though.

i still think there's work to be done by radiance on how they operate. i don't like the limited editions getting reliably discounted quite heavily because they can stick around for so long. it's the other end of the frustration in not being able to buy them when they're announced.

if there going to be limited, and expensive initially, best not make it hard to make happen and then far too easy down the line. it just feels a little chaotic.

Yeah, it was a screenshot of a tweet from Radiance that said:

Unfortunately we have been held up with our announcements due to a last minute studio snag with approvals. As such we hope to announce our titles later this week. Apologies for the delay!

Adam Lundy, who will be hosting Radiance's first Podcast, is asking people on reddit for any questions they'd like to ask Fran:

https://www.reddit.com/r/radiancefil...pisode_of_the/

Quote:
Hey guys, my name is Adam Lundy and I am the host of a long-running film discussion podcast called They Live By Film. Next weekend I will be recording the first episode of a new podcast focusing on Radiance Films and I have been lucky enough to book Radiance founder Fran Simeoni as my first guest. I thought it would be cool to have a mini Q&A with him before we talk about the July releases/August announcements so if anyone has anything they would like me to ask Fran while he is on please free to comment below and I’ll give you a shout out on the pod!

Of course I’ll come back when the podcast launches to share the link here also!
