If I have been reading things correctly, Peter Jackson has stated that these, the THEATRICAL VERSIONS, of the films ARE the DEFINITIVE versions of the films, and the EE's were made for the more die hard fans, those possibly of the book. If that is the case, then why wouldn't he want more of an input on the definitive release instead of waiting until later and only putting his effort and time into a version that is not even the definitive version? Am I looking at this right? If not, can someone set me straight?

You might as well be talking to deaf ears. The nitpicky people don't see it. And will not see it its like the same people saying TDK had a poor transfer yet many sites even gave it 5/5 PQ. Some people will never be satisfied

Now i have seen 4 reviewers saying this is good transfers and 2 people here with TV sets 48" - 50" saying it looks quite good. And that TTT and ROTK looks VERY good

The one on the right still looks better, the beard is a bit more detailed and so is his face. Wonder who made that comment at the bottom.

I don't think the HUGE argument is that they are not looking SUPER AMAZING, its that many state (and I can't confirm this cuz I haven't seen the blu OR the HD broadcast) is that the HD broadcast looks BETTER than the Blu, if the DNR was baked in, this wouldn't be the case. If thats the case, the Blu's should look AT LEAST AS GOOD AS the HD broadcasts of the films. The argument here is that they don't look as good as they can...

The one on the right is the HDTV, the left is the BD.

I'm guessing the comment was made by whoever posted the pic over there.

That is definitely the worst shot that has been posted of the movie.

The 1080p version was scary

Before the screencaps/reviews, the negative comments on the different Amazon sites had to do with the fact that these are the theatrical editions. Of course, now the negative comments will only continue to grow....

I asked Penton-man about going back to the original shots and using the more mature DI or "Lustre" process to make FOTR look as good as the other two. He indicated that it would cost a lot of time and money.

That Warner decided that they weren't going to spend buttloads of money on this getting a new master so they will look their absolute best, since people weren't going to buy it anyway? I know I wouldn't have, sounds kinda pointless.

I'm gonna put this back up cuz no one ever responded to it. We all know about the speculation going on whether the blu-rays could look better or not. What about what I posted before?

There are 2 unlikely but possible scenarios I thought of regarding the blu-ray versus HDTV scenario. It's possible that before all the post-production work was done that DNRed FoTR that the master was given to networks to broadcast. It's also possible that because it's a "TV" master that it's just a lot brighter and made to have a little more "punch" than the theatrical master.

Surely someone watched the finished product?
Jacksons has seen the Blu-ray. His words...

Peter Jackson: Well, it keeps changing. I am not the best person to ask about that believe it or not as I am not in charge of the Blu-ray, Warner Home Video is. I believe it is scheduled for sometime next year. They keep changing the date…I don’t know why. I’ve seen the Blu-ray as they sent it to me to approve and I looked at the film and it looks fantastic on Blu-ray but I don’t know the date.
