I discovered Criterion last June, while searching for future BD releases for Gomorrah and Che. Now I'm hooked, although mostly on newer films and not so much the harcore "classics".

I only purchase the ones that are interesting to me and that I know I will watch often. I do not collect Criterion (for that matter Kino or Studio Canal) just for the sake of having them.

I enjoy reding this threads and see the upcoming releases.

Nice to get a confirmation of Chaplin through official means.

As for the clue....

Fritz the Cat? (MGM has US rights, I believe.)

The Avant-Garde releases are awesome!!! The shorts are from the collection of Raymond Rohauer. An American film collector and distributor who was one of the nation’s foremost proponents of experimental cinema.

He formed a company back in 1954 when Buster Keaton offered him prints of his silent films and was also involved with the preservation of out-takes from Charlie Chaplin films when Chaplin was forced to leave the US back in 1952.

With a large collection of these silent films, the first set “Avante-Garde: Experimental Cinema of the 1920s and ’30s”, a two-disc DVD set featuring 24 silent short films by Man Ray, Hans Richter, Marcel Duchamp, Watson & Webber, Fernand Léger, Joris Ivens, Dimitri Kirsanoff, Jean Epstein, and Orson Welles. The second set is focused on American silent shorts. Not sure about the third. But I enjoyed the first one a lot!!!

CRUMB?!? Terry Zwigoff

That's what people are speculating..."CRUMB"! Hehe...although I can see "Garfield" fans rejoicing...that would be funny.

I asked them earlier today on Facebook:

Any plans for Passion of Joan of Arc on BD or is it safe to buy the DVD?
The Criterion Collection: No current plans for a BD.

Safe to say that if it happens it won't be for a while.

As for Sidney Lumet, Network or Serpico!? Or it could be 12 Angry Men or Fail Safe

I honestly prefer Serpico or Network. Serpico is unlikely seeing it is a StudioCanal title.

Lol sometimes they respond to people and sometimes they don't. I just don't get it.

That's the issue with more topics here. Most of them talk about the PG and AQ, without actually discussing the movies.
Like many others, I became interested in the Criterion collection with mainstream titles. For me, those were RoboCop and Life of Brian. I wanted to check out a lot of the titles in the collection, but there were so many that I simply would never be able to. So, I checked out some of the bigger titles, Amarcord, 8 1/2, Solyaris, the John Cassavetes collection and the Four Masterworks boxset of Ingmar Bergman. Really the small tip of the iceberg, but I loved most of them, and I said to myself that I would start collecting the Blu-rays when they were released. Only that took a while since I had to convert to Blu first, and had to make my player region free.
The collection for me is a both an addiction (I really want them all) a great way to see new and important titles. I never would've heard about some of them if it wasn't for Criterion.
The only thing I would've wished is that they started numbering again when they started releasing Blu-ray's. But that's a small pet peeve.

And if someone asks about the cases (i.e. how to order them) can't we just revert them to the front page instead of answering the same question every time? Just a thought.

I'll admit, I haven't seen Rocket Science, but I hear good things about it and it has Anna Kendrick lol

Now Thumbsucker, I thought it was great. Saw it at a time where I could really relate.

I love NETWORK and I also LOVE Ghost Town. I thought Ghost World was hilarious. Besides it is great to see Teri Garr in anything. :-) She is awesome in After Hours.

I didn't even realize he did Thumbsucker. Personally, I couldn't stand it. It was too cute and edible.

First of all, it's "Ghost World"... and, obviously, people have different tastes in things in the world. I'm a strong supporter of "Ghost World" and would love to see it come out on blu-ray from any company.

However, I've read that Criterion has plans to release Zwigoff's first film, "Louie Bluie."

Terry Zwigoff did not direct "Thumbsucker." It was directed by Mike Mills.

I think at this point no one is trolling in here but rather discussing possible upcoming titles. Its a given that we all have different taste. But as long as we avoid the crapping that occuredo ver the weekend I MUCH prefer friendly debating about films in the collection vs who bought what and replacement case questions.
