The Clone Wars series is the shit! I actually enjoy it way more than I did the prequels!

Gotcha. I thought there was something that came out that only the movies that counted, which rid Abrams of any burden from the official Ewok cartoons, Star Wars Holiday Special, Clone Wars series, video games, and everything in the expanded universe.

But the Holocron archives were also mentioned & seen in the Prequels anyway, so even if the Clone Wars was exorcised completely they could still be used because of their appearances in Ep 1-3.

Either way, I'm very excited to see what we get.

Amen! The Clone Wars has a few episodes that are misses (i.e., most Jar Jar-centric ep's, a few of the droid-centric ep's), but overall, they are 100x more enjoyable than the prequels. Better scripted, better acted, more convincing action sequences, thrilling space combat, basically everything the PT lacked.

the studio are planning to re-release A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi on DVD/Blu-Ray/On Demand in their original form, without all the things George Lucas changed for the “Special Edition” releases back in 2004.
Ok, but what about the changes from 1997?

We're talking about it in the Star Wars thread. I'm confident the UOT will come to Blu-Ray, but the idea that LucasFilm would consider treating the Prequels like the EU Legends brand is poppycock. The writer himself says he's dubious about that rumor. Also, I don't believe BleedingCool "intercepted" an email. Either they're lying or they got punked by somebody.

Well in the short term if the only way to get this series to successfully move forward without a full on reboot is to decanonize the prequels, I'm all for it.

While an official "de-canonization" statement regarding the PT is probably a bit unlikely, I wouldn't expect there to be much material in the new trilogy that acknowledges their existence.

we can at least dream that the prequels could be de-canonized .....sigh (wistfully smiles off into the distance)

That's what I'm guessing, but I'm thinking if they do end up doing Boba Fett or Vader films they're going to at the very least retcon some of the PT origin stuff.

But doing so would mean decanonizing the Clone Wars series as well and that I am NOT in favor of! That is a great series and has been deemed canon by Lucas himself!

Also, in regards to releasing the unaltered original trilogy. Would I like to have it for my collection, sure! However I actually LIKE a lot of the changes that Lucas made for the OT! In fact, the changes that I like far outweigh the ones I don't like.

Really the only changes I hate for the OT are...

A New Hope:

Greedo shooting first

The new Ric Flair "WHOOOOO!!!"Krayt Dragon call that Obi Wan uses to scare off the sand people.

Empire Strikes Back:

None! I love all the changes in this one.

Return of the Jedi:

Jabba's "Jedi Rocks" scene! (my most hated change in the entire trilogy!) Hate the cgi! Hate the music! Hate everything about it!!!

Vader's "Nooooooo" before throwing the Emperor down the giant hole. (Though I dont' really hate this one but it's just un necessary)

Hayden Christensen as "young Anakin" in the force ghost scene. Makes NO sense to me, no matter how many times I've heard it explained!

That's it! That's all I hate about the changes! 5 alterations spanning an entire trilogy of films! Everything else I am perfectly fine with! In fact, I would love it if they would go back and update all of the light sabers to match for each movie in the entire saga. I would like them all to have the white hot core with the color just around the edges like in the PT.

Sadly it will never happen. But what I bet on happening is there will be little to no mention of anything that happened in the PT in the new trilogy. I've said before, I'm pretty sure Kasdan and Abrams have the ultimate goal of winning back the older gen-X SW fans that actually saw the originals in theaters, as well as winning new fans over. With the stigma that the PT carries, they'll do what they can to distance these new productions from them.

Also, just a side note. I watched Star Trek Into Darkness this weekend, and all I could think of during the scene on
[Show spoiler]Kronos
was what a great new Star Wars scene it would make. I say again, the saga is now in good hands.

Yeah, I can definitely see this happening. I'm sure any references to past events will reside squarely in things that happened during the OT. I'm sure there will be mentions of Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi and perhaps Anakin or The Clone Wars. However I would be shocked if we EVER hear words uttered like Padme, Jar Jar, or Midichlorians!

However as I said before, I don't want the PT to be decanonized because that would mean decanonizing the Clone Wars series and I don't want that to happen! The Clone Wars series actually made me a Star Wars fan again!

They won't "de-canon" the Prequels. It would be a huge slap in the face to George Lucas, and I can't see Kathleen Kennedy even imagining such a thing.

Agreed. And like Steelmaker said, that would mean de-canonizing The Clone Wars, which would be a tragedy. That series also helped get me back into Star Wars (along with Harmy's contribution to preserving the UOT).

You loved the awful change of the awesome line reading "Bring my shuttle" to the stilted, hackneyed "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival"? You loved watching the laborious stroll Vader took to his shuttle and then the equally laborious flight to the Executor, which was in reality an alternate take of him landing on the Death Star II from Return of the Jedi all because Lucas thought we were too stupid to figure out how he got back to his ship?

Unfortunately, Lucas screwed up every film in the OT with his tinkering. ESB is just the one that got screwed up the least. Admittedly, I do like the windows added to Cloud City. But that may be the only change I do like.

Legendary poster artist Drew Struzan is rumored to be coming out of retirement for "Star Wars: Episode VII".

Struzan painted various pieces for the original trilogy between 1977 and 1983 along with the triptych he did for the 1997 re-releases of the original trilogy.

Schmoes Know (http://schmoesknow.com/poster-maestr...ode-vii/23466/) claims Struzan will return to create three more posters for the new trilogy that tie into the previous look and style of the ones he created for the first two trilogies.

J.J. Abrams himself reportedly contacted Struzan, asking him to come out of retirement for this special occasion. Though its rumored Struzan has agreed to do it, neither Disney nor LucasFilm have confirmed his return to the franchise.

Struzan's last poster before retirement was for 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".
