I agree it would make more sense geographically, but in the last several months Notre Dame hasn't appeared interested in the Big 10. (And vice versa) While both Notre Dame and the Big XII were flirting with one another, it's a moot point now that we know how the college football playoff will run. Notre Dame does not need to join a conference for football, and I don't suspect they will.

Currently, if ND finishes in the top 8 in the BCS standings, they get into a BCS bowl. Now, there is no guaranty for them. They will be fighting with everyone else.

The real reason to remain independent is because of the money. The ND brand is worth a lot, regardless on whether they win or lose. They are sort of like the Dallas Cowboys in that regard. As long as the TV money is better for them independent than splitting with other teams, they will stay indepeandent.

Georgia running back Isiah Crowell was arrested early this morning and charged with a felony count of possessing a weapon in a school zone, a felony count of altered identification mark and misdemeanor count of possession/carrying a concealed weapon. Georgia's policy is to immediately suspend any athlete charged with a felony.

Crowell was the #1 running back and #4 overall recruit in the 2011 recruiting class according to ESPN recruiting. He rushed for 850 yards last season but was suspended twice, once for a quarter and once for a game and also suffered an ankle injury that slowed him down late in the season. In February Georgia signed Keith Marshall, ESPN's #2 ranked running back and #5 overall back, and Todd Gurley, ESPN's #22 ranked running back, so they shouldn't hurt too badly if Crowell faces a lengthy suspension or is booted off the team.

Sounds like investigators might have the goods on nailing some of the other key figures in the Penn St. scandal for perjury. Some of these e-mails contain information that contradicts what was said to the grad jury. I sure hope this is the case. These incompetent fools clearly knew they were covering up for Sandusky and did nothing. They allowed this to go on for nearly another decade.

The e-mails also make it sound like Joe Paterno did in fact influence the higher ups in administration not to pursue Sandusky. The man isn't around anymore but it makes his legacy look worse and worse if true.

Former Penn State officials exchanged emails in 2001 to determine how they would deal with allegations of inappropriate behavior against Jerry Sandusky, according to a CNN report.

According to the report, emails between former Penn State officials Tim Curley, Gary Schultz and Graham Spanier show the trio initially planned to tell authorities about the allegations against Sandusky, who was convicted on 45 of 48 charges against him last week.

However, the three men opted not to alert authorities after speaking with "Joe," according to the report.

"After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday, I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone, but the person involved," read one of the emails, according to CNN.

During the Sandusky trial, prosecutors said Schultz, a Penn State vice president, kept a secret file containing allegations of inappropriate behavior against Sandusky that directly contradicted statements Schultz made to the grand jury investigating the disgraced former defensive coordinator under longtime coach Joe Paterno.

"The commonwealth has come into possession of computer data (again, subpoenaed long ago but not received from PSU until after the charges had been filed in this case) in the form of emails between Schultz, Curley and others that contradict their testimony before the Grand Jury," the document states.

The document also states that Schultz, who also oversaw the school's police force, "created, maintained and possessed" the file.

I wonder how much deeper this goes. If more details of a coverup are found I wonder if the NCAA will be forced to get involved and put sanctions on Penn State. I know they don't like hurting their big money programs, but these are pretty morally inept circumstances.

Source - http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...or-2013-season

Quote:
Boise State formally withdrew from the Mountain West on Saturday, sources told CBSSports.com, meaning the Broncos' football program will join the Big East in 2013.

By withdrawing before midnight Saturday, the Broncos' exit fee is only one year's lost revenue in the MWC (about $2.5 million). Had they waited until after Saturday it would have cost anywhere from $7.5 million to $24 million -- because they would have provided less than one year's notice.

Even Big East interim commisioner Joe Bailey wasn't sure Boise State would withdraw from the MWC.

"I can't comment because A: I don't know and; B: I won't guess," Bailey told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday.

It's still unknown where the Broncos will place their Olympic sports in 2013.

In December, Boise State announced it would leave the Mountain West in 2013, joining the Big East as a football-only member and placing its Olympic sports in the Western Athletic Conference.

However, the WAC has been decimated by defections, leaving only five members. WAC interim commissioner Jeff Hurd previously told CBSSports.com his league needed to add at least two schools to remain a Division I conference.

Hurd told CBSSports.com Saturday night he didn't know where Boise State would put its Olympic sports.

"I do not know," Hurd said. "I have not had contact of any kind with Boise today."

With the WAC's future unknown, Boise State has tried unsuccessfully to gain membership into the Big West for its Olympic sports.
I really thought they were going to stay in the Mountain West. I don't know if this is a good decision for them.

Erin Andrews has left ESPN and will be hosting a new prime time college football studio show on Fox. It will premiere on September 1 prior to the Hawaii-USC game. Andrews will also have roles on Fox's MLB and NFL coverage.

I'm really not sure what was behind this move. The Big Least has one more year of AC status and then they get kicked back in line with the other "minor" conferences. The upcoming renogiation of their TV deal will obviously reflect that, regardless of their markets. There might be a little more money, but the travel and time away from classes is going to hurt the school more. They would have been much, much better staying in MWC and dominating. At least then they could use a conference championship as a stepping stone to the Top 4.

Lol it's hilarious to see these joe pa defenders. Hes an awful person, I don't care how much he donated or how many times he helped people. If that's all it took to get off the hook I'll go rob a bank and serve a soup kitchen and be a weekend dad so it'll even out.

ACC Reaches 12-Year Agreement with Orange Bowl.

Quote:
The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Orange Bowl announced a 12-year agreement that goes into effect in the 2014 seasons to tie the league and game together through 2025.

The contract maintains the tie between the two entities that has been in place since 2006.

Under the terms of the new deal, the ACC champion will play in the Orange Bowl if the school is not part of the playoff and the game is not hosting a national semifinal.

In addition, the game announced it would be held on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. The move is a change from the traditional night start time the Orange Bowl held before the creation of the BCS.

I guess they will play an at-large?

Good news for the ACC. I'm hoping the ACC can find a way to hang onto Miami, Florida State, Clemson, and Virginia Tech. If the ACC can improve as a conference (which I think they will in the coming years), they will have a fighting chance.

The final report completed by an independent investigation of the Penn St. sexual abuse scandal could drop as early as next week. Sounds like it's going to pain a very ugly picture of Joe Paterno and other top Penn St. officials.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/...ording-sources

Quote:
A report offering new information about how Joe Paterno and Penn State senior officials responded to an allegation that Jerry Sandusky had sexually abused a boy inside the football team's showers could be made public as early as next week, several sources said Friday, and is expected to be tough on Paterno.

The report is expected to shed new light on administrators' handling of the Sandusky allegations, and also raise questions about Paterno's leadership of Penn State's vaunted football program, according to several people with knowledge of the inquiry's scope.

"Much of the focus will be on the culture of the football program, with findings that go back more than a decade," said a Penn State official briefed on the inquiry, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "It's going to be very tough on Joe (Paterno)."

The long-awaited report, compiled by Freeh Group International Solutions, the consulting firm led by former FBI director Louis J. Freeh, is the culmination of an eight-month investigation that examined whether university policies and culture were contributing factors to a lack of reports and action about abuse that occurred on campus. Investigators interviewed more than 400 people, including Penn State administrators, faculty members, trustees and former coaches, players and staff from Penn State's football team.

A batch of emails the Freeh Group uncovered -- leaked in recent weeks to NBC and CNN and confirmed by ESPN -- have raised fresh questions about Paterno's handling of the allegation about an incident involving Sandusky and a young boy in the Penn State locker room showers in February 2001.

The emails shed new light on how former athletic director Tim Curley and former vice president for finance and business Gary Schultz had dealt with the allegation made by former assistant football coach Mike McQueary about the alleged incident involving Sandusky and a young boy in the showers. They also raise questions about the handling of the matter by then-Penn State president Graham Spanier, who resigned last November after Sandusky's arrest.

Curley and Schultz are charged with perjury and failure to report suspected abuse of a child. They have both pleaded not guilty; their next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.

In late February 2001, Curley and Schultz had intended to report McQueary's allegation to child welfare authorities, according to emails. But Curley had changed his mind after a discussion with Paterno, saying in an email he preferred to talk directly with Sandusky. The leaked email implies that Paterno might have played a larger role in those discussions than he had described to the grand jury or in statements and an interview prior to his death.

Spanier, then the president of Penn State who resigned last November, agreed not to go to the authorities, but he said in one of the emails that university administrators could be "vulnerable" for failing to report it, sources say. Spanier called the approach a "humane and reasonable way to proceed."

Spanier, Curley and Schultz all declined to comment, according to their lawyers and spokesmen.

Penn State's Board of Trustees, which hired the Freeh Group to conduct the inquiry after Sandusky's arrest last November, is meeting Thursday and Friday in State College, Pa. On June 22, a jury convicted Sandusky, the 68-year-old former Penn State defensive coach, on 45 out of 48 counts of sexually abusing young boys he had met through The Second Mile, a charity for troubled youth that he founded in 1977.

Initially, the Freeh Group had intended to allow Penn State's trustees to review a draft copy of its report before releasing it to the public. After the Faculty Council and others at Penn State criticized that plan last winter, the Freeh Group decided to release its final report, without review or prior input by the trustees, directly to the board and the public at the same time, several sources said.

"They did not want people to think the board had influenced the process," a source said.

The findings of the Freeh Group's report likely will have an impact on the civil lawsuits filed by victims against Penn State as well as the legacy of coach Paterno, who died in January of lung cancer at the age of 85, two months after the Board of Trustees fired him for failing to show leadership in the Sandusky matter.

Pennsylvania's attorney general, Linda Kelly, said last November that Paterno, who testified before the Sandusky grand jury for seven minutes in January 2011, was not a target of the criminal inquiry. At that time, a handful of 11-year-old emails that emerged during the Freeh Group inquiry were not known by prosecutors. In fact, the prosecutors had thought mistakenly that the incident in the showers occurred in March 2002, not February 2001. After being discovered in recent months by the Freeh Group, the emails were turned over to the attorney general's office.

It is unclear how the new emails will affect the upcoming criminal trials of Curley and Schultz. State prosecutors wrote in a recent court filing in the Curley-Schultz case that they had obtained emails from both men and others "that contradict their testimony before the grand jury" and they also recently had obtained a file that Schultz kept about Sandusky.

The thing thats most overlooked about what Joe Pa knew... If you'd sell little kids out to win, what else did that guy cover up? Once you've crossed a line like that cheating kids grades, and covering up crimes, seems like a cake walk.

He's worse in my opinion.

This stuff is getting out of hand. I don't think this is the first story like this one I've read. Sadly given how highly touted he is I bet they fold and give him what he wants. Recruits holding a program hostage like this shouldn't be tolerated. Now I see why Saban and Alabama passed on this kid.

But the kid sounds like a total diva. If he's pulling this crap before even playing a game what's going to happen when the season starts? He could end up pouting about his friends not getting enough playing time.

Maybe, but he's still looking out for his buddy, and lets be real they may flirt with the buddy to get the main star which is worse. I know for a fact MD recruiters had tried the tactic get the buddy and pray you get the star. I believe some of Melos teammates when he was living in Bmore.
