I sure hope not.

Best Picture - Lincoln or Argo. Need to see both

Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis - Just from the trailers he wins

Best Actress - Jennifer Lawrence, but if Chastain wins, I would be good with that.

Supporting Actor - Tough one - Tommy Lee or Arken. Need to see both

Supporting Actress - Anne Hathaway in a walk.

Best Director - Christopher Nol.... I mean Steven Spielberg. Sorry, my inner fanboy was trying to get out.

Is it possible that there will actually be a surprise winner in Best Actor? A few years ago, it seemed like a lock for Mickey Rourke to win Best Actor, but it somehow went to Sean Penn. Day-Lewis already has two Oscars . No need to get greedy

I saw both Zero Dark Thirty and Amour today. Loved Dark; liked Amour enough but I was a tad disappointed. Both leads in Amour were very good, but I have to admit for all the press Riva has garnered, I thought Trintignant has the more impressive (and larger, and harder) role. I wanted to like it more than I did.

Riva plays a person who becomes handicapped. The Academy loves that crap.

I really don't care who wins what (I would prefer to see The Master/Django Unchained win in all their categories, but whatever), as long as Anne Hathaway doesn't win. I'd like to see Spielberg get shut down too (exceedingly unlikely, of course), but if I had one Oscar wish, it would be that Hathaway lose.

Hathaway was the best part of that film, after she goes the film nose dives. What's with the hate towards her?

My choices.

Performance by an actor in a leading role

Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln”

Haven't seen silver linings but I seriously doubt cooper could out do DDL

Performance by an actor in a supporting role

Christoph Waltz in “Django Unchained”

Although...I honestly think Di caprio and/or Sam Jackson deserve this more.

[u]Performance by an actress in a leading role]/u]

Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty”
Jennifer Lawrence in “Silver Linings Playbook”

Left the 2 cause I still need to see Silver lining ans Jen Lawrence certainly has the chops to out do Chastain and even though I hated Zero Dark Thirty Chastain was very, very good.

Achievement in cinematography

“Skyfall” Roger Deakins

To be fair many are deserving IMO and I wonder why the Impossible was left out

Best motion picture of the year

“Argo” Grant Heslov, Ben Affleck and George Clooney, Producers
“Django Unchained” Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone, Producers
Life of Pi” Gil Netter, Ang Lee and David Womark, Producers

I would be happy if either of these won. All great movies IMO

Achievement in production design

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”
“Life of Pi”

Achievement in visual effects

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

Again, No sure why the Impossible is not on this list. Would be great to see Avengers win but I don't see that happening

Adapted screenplay

“Argo” Screenplay by Chris Terrio
“Life of Pi” Screenplay by David Magee
l

Original screenplay

“Django Unchained” Written by Quentin Tarantino

Why isn't Cabin in the Woods nominated ? Is easily one of the more original films, especially in it's genre

Any way those are my choices based on my viewing experiences. Please keep in mind that Amour and Silver Linings playbook I have not seen yet.

The thing going against DDL is that he already has two Best Actor Oscars. Academy seems to favor underdogs in these categories. Cooper could be a good bet given the right odds.

Shouldn't matter how many he has. He if he is the best then he should win. Obviously "The Best" is Subjective so he may not win but having won oscars before shouldn't be a factor.

Unfortunately, that isn't how the Award is given.

I have never liked an Anne Hathaway performance. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing her in a movie and not being repulsed. This includes The Dark Knight Rises.

[Show spoiler]I was quite glad when her character died in Les Miserables, because I didn't know the story (yeah, I'm not the most cultured human being in the world, I am afraid to say), and from the trailers I was worried she would be the female lead and I would have to feel sick for most of the film.* Luckily, she's in it for not too long, then dies, and we can enjoy the Jackman/Crowe show. She does pop up at the end for a minute, unfortunately, but the film is for the most part free of her.

*Why see the film at all, then, you may ask? Well, first, I usually like to see all the Best Picture nominees, anyways, just so I can discuss them with people. Second, I like the French Revolution (which, I'll admit, makes the fact I have never read this book all the more odd). I knew going it there wouldn't be guillotines and other intense Revolutionary stuff, but I like the time period. And I like the idea of the police officer relentlessly chasing the fugitive (I knew that much about the story, anyways), it kind of reminded me of the The Duellists, actually, and that's always a good thing. Third, I assumed that Hathaway would be a distant third in terms of screentime, after Jackman and Crowe, both of whom I like. I was more than pleased that she was even less prominent than that, of course. Fourth, I hadn't been to the theatre in a while (for me, anyways), and had already seen Django Unchained a few times, so I figured why not.

I agree. He is not my favorite for the Award this year, not by a long shot, but I think that if someone felt it was the best, they should vote for me, regardless of his previous Oscars. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't see it this way.

Just curious but how many best picture (And best cinematography) nominess were shot on film? How many shot Digitally? I know Django of course was shot on film and Life of Pi was shot on Digital.

Hathaway was very good in Les Miserables even though I dont have too much nice to say about other aspects of the film but Hathaway nailed that role. But I do have to say I was very unprepared for the lack of screen time she has. I thought she would be in the film about 2 or 3 times as much as she was. I dont think the Academy will be bothered by that though and still give her the award.

I'm actually similar to you in that respect. Anne Hathaway has always gotten on my nerves. I did like her in Les Miserables, though. Well, up until
[Show spoiler]she died. When she comes back in the end, whatever it is about her that grates on my nerves- which I can't even place- came back and grated on my nerves again.

Deakins is now a digital dude, so Skyfall would of been Digital. It seems Anna Kereina was shot on film.

I dont get why Lincoln got nods for Cinematography and editing...even directing.

Lincoln is the movie it is mostly due to the acting in the movie and of course, the script. I am glad it got recognition in those categories.

There was no need for award-worthy editing in a movie like this...everything was pretty straight forward. They just followed the script to the bone.

With all these good actors and a good script, the movie sort of just makes itself (if you know what I mean). I guess what bugged me the most about Lincoln was that Spielberg just played it too safe. I wish the movie had a little more of a flavour/attitude.

P.S. John williams' score put me to ****ing sleep
