I'm curious to see if anyone knows if the new US and UK transfers are the same? I ordered the UK one because I wanted the steelbook. |

Yep Id like to know that too. I didnt realise you get the older disc with it as well - that makes this an easy buy now. I should imagine the UK/US releases are the same discs though?

I've got the US & UK transfers and they are the same. I ordered the US version first because I think it was released first then purchased the steelbook since it seemed a good price and I wanted to keep pristine copies of the 229 and 251 minute versions.

I bought the theatrical version primarily because of the color and that version was approved, but one of these days will probably just check out the extended cut. The strong increase in detail and film-like look is appealing in some ways despite the color difference. The theatrical version has that older transfer look although it's not a terrible disc either.

I'm disappointed that the extended DC version release does not let you select the shorter director's cut version. After seeing the extra scenes, I would prefer them out of the movie if they're in such bad shape.

I'd start with the 229-minute version - it's the one that Leone himself approved, it's the one that most film fans are familiar with, and the one that garnered all the critical acclaim. The newer 251-minute version may expand on some characters and plot developments (like more effectively introducing and explaining Eve's character - in the 229-minute version she's not well explained at all) but the rough shape of the newer footage may be jarring and may end up distracting you from enjoying the overall story.

Canadian Buyer here.....what is the best version to get, its a blind buy.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Once-...lu-ray/106793/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Once-...lu-ray/106766/ Is the only difference that one includes the booklet inside the casing? All this talk about one being longer then the other, is that from the original release. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks |

The second link [106766] says it includes 2 discs i.e. both the 229 min and the 251 min cuts plus a few extras. Some prefer the 229 min version - the colors are truer to the original and some years after the movie was released Leone said the 229 min version was his preferred cut. It has some faults and parts are slightly fuzzy for a Blu-ray. The 251 min version was an attempt by Leone's family and fans to get back to the original version made by Leone with a new 4K scan and full restoration. However the attempt has not been successful. Leone's original version ran for 270 minutes and the 4K scan has a very noticeable yellowish tint throughout. The version is missing 19 minutes and cuts not authorized by Leone have been made. Despite the faults in the longer version some seem to quite like it and it may look better in theaters where the lighting will be different that in most homes. At present my preferred version is the 229 min cut but if in the future the missing 19 minutes could be re-inserted into the extended version and correct color timing used, I would undoubtedly opt for the longer version. |

I watched the Extended Director's Cut of the film last night and absolutely loved it. Bar catching about an hour of the film on television years ago, this was my first time properly watching it. Obviously this means I can't directly compare this version to the 229m cut, but I do think the additional scenes (aside from the poor picture quality) fit into the film well without disrupting the pacing. Having seen them in context, it's now difficult to imagine the film without them.
I'm already tempted to re-watch the film, which is a rarity for me when it comes to films of this length. |

The Limited Edition Steelbook--(Exclusive to Amazon.co.uk) [Blu-ray] [Region Free] is currently $18.87 (U.S. currency).
This is the cheapest it's ever been. When it was released back in October, it retailed for $40.00. ![]() I'm guessing the collectors will be importing this like crazy. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Once-Upon-a-...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE |

That would be good for me. Because I have the 229 version and have no interest in spending money on a new version just because it has a few crappy-looking deleted scenes that probably never should have been in the movie to begin with. ...no offense to those who like those scenes. |

What is the original language of this film? Is the Italian PCM mono track on the Italian release a dub, or the original track?
Yes, the video compression is pretty poor on the Italian release, but I am strangely enough, favouring that release. ![]() |
