Is there pretty much a near complete consensus that Aladdin will not get a 3-D release this year (or perhaps ever)?

Nope it won't happen, we would have known by now.
Ever? I don't think so either, 3D tv is close to death. The next big "restoration format" would be UHD (excluding Digital releases).

You poor guys have had to wait this long for Aladdin on bluray. Australia has had it since March 2013.

I've uploaded all the songs to my youtube account so check them out unless you don't want to be "spoiled" from how good it looks.

Thanks. Incidentally, though 3D BD is "close to death" for Disney in N.A. and from the forefront of company marketing, but don't count on seeing it disappear from TV specs anytime soon (most 2015 lineups still count it among their feature specs). Sorry for going off topic.

It was still a transition period for many and yet we're moving away, again, sooner than Blu-ray came after DVD dominated. There are still many many films not yet on Blu-ray, way less than the amount of movies on DVD when Blu-ray came on the scene, and we're moving on already? It makes buying movies a waste of my time and trying to get a complete up to date collection of say, the Disney animated classics a futile act. What about the classic Disney live-action that's just now seeing a lot released? What about a Disney Animated Shorts collection that we're finally seeing one of (Modern Shorts but still..) this year? When the Disney animated classics are finally all out on Blu-ray, I'm supposed to start over and concede that it's outdated and not worth my time anymore? I know you guys live for re-buying your entire collections every several years but when is enough, enough? Especially how niche Blu-ray was compared to DVD. Blu-ray I don't think even has even dominated DVD and they want to try a new format? Plus we're seeing even more diminishing returns when going from Blu-ray to UHD. I love my Blu-rays. Is it worth it to play that game anymore? Especially when we're starting to have to rebuy sooner and sooner each time. Now with sales low and downloads and streaming taking over. (I prefer physical myself.) who's to say how far this will even go? Will it be like the very niche SACD where currently only select albums get released on it? Plus there are a lot of releases still coming out that are still DVD-only! I have no idea and it is frustrating and I have no idea why they are DVD-only but it is very telling.
As to why release are dvd only, it is because printing DVDs is very very cheap, and everyone and their mother has a DVD player, as they have been around for about twenty years now. They can hit the largest spread with that, and get their target audience as well.

As to not everything being on blu-ray, not everything will. This happens everytime there is a format jump. This time it is so prevalent, because DVD was such a widespread success and the resolution was right for every piece of media film and/or video taped in the last 50 years. Blu-ray is about giving people a higher video and audio standard, and not everything is going to benefit from that. Some material that could benefit from blu-ray won't be released for it not being profitable enough to do so.

All of this I am sure that you know, but I wanted to get that out there. I do enjoy re-buying movies and shows, as I love getting higher quality source material to watch of my favorite films. And having seen the difference between blu-ray and 4K video, I can't wait for UDH Blu-arys and to see all of the Disney animated classics in that format would be awesome!

Not like they did with bluray for so long. Hell we can't even get True Lies, Bend it like Beckham, or Bad boys 2 on bluray and all of those were hits. I doubt were gonna see that much on UHD.

Specifically with Disney I don't expect stuff like Pocahontas, emperor's new groove and such. I expect probably Lion King. Sleeping Beauty. The big ones. And new ones moving forward. I just think it will be less of a problem of re-buying old stuff and just more of a decision on whether new stuff gets bought in bluray or UHD. I just hope there are combo packs so I don't have to buy 2 copies.
I would love to get some Disney UHD Blurays!Sometimes I wonder if they delayed Aladdin to put it out on UHD. That would certainly get me to buy a player on day 1.

Don't forget that many catalog titles for release in Blu-ray derive from 4K (or higher) scans to begin with (including one of my favorites - Blade Runner ). So, it really shouldn't be that difficult to release them in UHD. Don't be surprised to see loads of catalog titles not long after the first ones hit shelves this fall.

Here's a thread with a list in the first post: List of 4K film transfers on Blu-ray shot on film (non digitally shot)

So wait are these movies getting 4k film transfers or do they already have them?

Also, Wow! I'm surprised with the selection of Disney movies! None of them are post Walt, and only a handful of Walt Disney's "Big 12" animated movies, no wonder Alice and SB look so great!

The DMA digital version of King of Thieves says "coming soon" so I can only assume that it will release it on disc sometime this year. If not on disc, then at least on digital.

The Return of Jafar came out in the United Arab Emirates 2 years ago which is really weird.

Bluray.com has listings of the 3 Aladdin movies in Australia and the US, but no release date.

But yeah I hope they come out. In the meantime there's my 1080p upscales which hold up quite well.

Here's the diamond site with a surprising LOW bonuses (as of yesterday) they got removed but I can recall them

http://movies.disney.com/aladdin/products

Genie 101, most likely 101's 101 facts featuring Cameron B or could be a tribute for Robin Williams

A bonus bout the successful Broadway

Sing along (Disney posted lyric vid of One Jump on Aladdin's Facebook)

I think the commentaries are returning

Here is Google's snapshot of the page before the bonus feature details were removed.

Actually, it's seems like a decent set by the titles, depending on what classic bonuses are ported to BD.
