I want it to succeed, I want more Godzilla(and other) giant monster movies.

Disappointed in the delay, but it makes sense. Very much looking forward to this. Godzilla '14 was a dull bore. Skull Island was much better. But just from the spectacle alone, KotM is my favorite so far. Yes, it's very plot-stupid, but Vera Farmiga made it fun.

So do I. I want more Pacific Rim movies, more Kong movies, more Godzilla movies and so on. Even Gamera. I wish American audiences loved giant monster movies more. I can't get enough of them.

Godzilla 2014 didn't make good money. It did ok-ish, but certainly not good.

The stats don't lie and that's the issue. KOTM bombed and was critically panned. It can also be franchise fatigue along with the majority of people not caring about it in general.

Just to clarify my position, I WANT this to succeed. I want this to make bank and break some records, but I just don't think it will. Haven't Box Office numbers been on the decline minus comic book movies and Disney outings? People stick to what they feel comfortable with, otherwise they have their streaming services to fall back on. It's just how it is now and while we are only 5 years out from G14, that's still a long time in the world of film and a lot can change. Minus my father in law and son, I honestly don't know anyone who saw either 3 of these films. It's such a damn shame.

$525M worldwide gross off of a $160M production budget. Grossed well over 3x its budget.

Obviously not an Avengers-level success, but it made good money. Let's not re-write history.

What's up with Alita fanboys obsessing over KotM's performance? Not sure if they're aware but their film was also a flop.

But Alita is better than KOTM on every level. So take that, Joker fanboy.

I rather doubt that Alita topped KotM's Atmos track. Still, why continue to frequent this thread? I was lukewarm on Alita, said so in one or two posts in its threads and then bowed out to let its fans discuss the film in peace. One Alita fan in particular has consistently kept trolling the Mosterverse threads for several months now. I don't get it.

And me liking Joker is relevant how? You won't see me hanging out in other comic book movie threads sh*tting on their poor reviews and/or lack of box office success.

Not really a question of one film being better than the other, just that both underperformed at the box office. Seems silly for a fan of one flop to attack another film for being a flop. You'd think they wouldn't take so much glee from box office returns putting a franchise in jeopardy.

You're forgetting to include the marketing budget on top.

I don’t mind the delay IF there’s no extensive massive reshoots that the studio feels they need to retoole half the movie. Or else it’ll look like Fantastic Four or Justice League. Two distinct visions mixed together in a poor final product because the money side (understandably, they did sink 100+ million into this thing) can’t get along with the creative side

The general rule is that a movie needs to gross 2.5x its production budget to break even. This takes into account the marketing budget.

Just when the crazed Alita fans started to calm down, you had to bring them out of hiding again.

Very mature. Classic deflecting. Alita made more worldwide than Godzilla, very pathetic if you ask me.

Look, I dig the film too but could we please move the Alita chat far away from this thread please? That would be grand, some of you need to really cool your jets.
