They aren't going to lose a couple more games before the end of the season. The 'Canes are probably going to finish 10-2 this season and start next season in the top five. One poorly played game does not mean anything.

How bout them Hawkeyes. I was watching the game at a sports bar (in Iowa) and everyone was going crazy. The Iowa-Michigan night game could be huge in 2 weeks if Michigan can beat Michigan State on the road next week (I'm assuming Iowa won't struggle too much against Arkansas State). Iowa still has a tough remaining schedule with road games at Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin but their defense is amazing. Take away that first play from scrimmage last night and Iowa shut down Penn State. Last week the only defensive touchdown they gave up against Arizona was a garbage time touchdown and they didn't give up any touchdowns against Iowa State. They should jump into the rankings in the mid-teens today.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Cal being ranked 6 spots higher than Oregon? The thing that chaps my ass with the AP poll. Virginia Tech is #6, Miami #17 and Nebraska #23. How does that make sense? The difference between #6 and #17 is 24 points, but the difference between #6 and #23 is only one? I hate to seem like a homer, but Nebraska should be ranked a little higher than that. We dominated Virginia Tech outside of the last 2 minutes.

Well someone has to be ranked high. I don't know who you think qualifies as someone with a high ranking but those teams mentioned deserve to be in the top 10. There is no team currently outside of the top 10 that should be ranked in the top 10. Why don't you just rank them like this.
1. Florida 2. Texas 3. Alabama 11. LSU 12. Va. Tech |

But it's a screwy season so far. Really the top 5 in both polls are fine with me. After that: chaos. Here's why: USC is 7 in both. But they lost to an unranked team. (Yes, they beat Ohio State, but who has Ohio State played? No one). Oklahoma is 8 in both. They lost to (at the time) #20 BYU, who subsequently got the shit kicked out of them by FSU, who is now unranked again. Penn State, who's had the fluffiest schedule north of Gainesville, loses to a then-unranked Iowa, and only falls to 13/15. UGA loses its opener at Stillwater, Ok. State jumps up to #5, but then loses to an unranked Houston, who barely holds on to win this weekend to remain 4-0. Like in 2007, it'll all sort itself out. |

Do these pollsters even consider who these teams lost to? The AP makes sense, but the coaches are horrible. Penn State has 1 loss (at home) to Iowa, who is undefeated, and Penn State is 4 spots higher. Oregon and Cal both have 1 loss, with Oregon blowing out Cal and losing to the number 5 team, and Oregon is 6 spots lower. Houston is undefeated and beat Oklahoma State but Oklahoma State is ranked 3 spots higher.
Kirk Herbstreit was saying when he fills out his poll he looks at who teams have lost to when deciding rankings, and used an example of last week initially having USC lower than Ohio State but changing it since USC beat Ohio State. Unfortunately coaches don't use the same common sense. |

That is a horrible game, is there some backstory I don't know about? The best game this weekend is clearly LSU-Georgia but I bet Gameday will be going to the LSU-Florida game the following week and wouldn't want to have the same team 2 weeks in a row. Another good game is Oklahoma-Miami but I would guess they didn't go to that because they'll likely be at Oklahoma-Texas in 2 weeks. The only other good game is Cal-USC but they just had USC 2 weeks ago, Cal is coming off a blowout loss, and they tend to avoid the west coast because of the time difference. Overall looks like a pretty poor week of games other than those 3 games. I would have chosen Michigan-Michigan State over FSU-Boston College though, although that is a noon eastern game on Big 10 Network and they would prefer going with ABC/ESPN games.

Agreed about LSU/UF next week. Another thing is that Fowler is on record saying he doesn't like Gameday at UGA. Something about our fans being jerks. |

4 of the 6 computer polls used by the BCS have been released, and Iowa is number 1 in 2 of them, while Florida and Texas each top 1. It's a bit confusing because Sagarin has Florida first and Iowa fifth in his actual rankings but Iowa first in the ranking used for the BCS. I'm an Iowa fan but I know Iowa is not a top 5 team right now, and think they'll probably end up 10-2. These will also change by the time BCS rankings are officially released in a few weeks. Right now Florida and Texas are hurt by their weak schedules but they each have harder games coming that should help their rankings. Sagarin's BCS ranking actual has Texas at number 12.

They also didn't have their Qb when it mattered most and still only lost by a point, I think they should be higher and given some consideration. I personally just don't like how many factors aren't taken into account either because of biases or because its not programed into the silly computer making the decisions.
