Money talks, and the studio will cynically want to use nostalgia to bait fans in. Can see it coming to be honest.

All they have to do is RDJ it and CG his head onto the body.

If they try to get Weller back I'd rather they do an animated series. Amazon had a lot of success with Invincible so another ultra-violent cartoon, this time tied to a more recognizable IP, would probably do pretty well.

Because armor can't be CGI'd or made with lighter materials these days.

CGI would work but I wouldn’t look as good as practical suit would. They’re probably doing a reboot though anyways so I don’t see him coming back. Weller could do the Voice.

It would make an interesting side story of forced immortality: the machinery never ages and can be replaced meanwhile the flesh begins to age and wear down. It is not just his face that was saved from his human body, his brain was too.

Somehow I always missed when that would get reprinted. I've wanted to read that thing for years now. Would like to also get Miller's RoboCop 2.

Most movies are crap. It's just a fact by the numbers alone. The easier way to see that is the internet existing. Modern crap, and the criticism of it, sticks around a lot easier than the old crap because we catalog things better, intentionally and unintentionally. Hollywood in whatever period has produced my poor quality work than great quality. That's just every movie industry though. Hong Kong, India, UK, wherever. The dynamics of the industry itself change too.

Example:

We herald the 1970s as this decade, and it is, but it has soooooo much more crap than the diamonds that shine out of it. Same can go w/ the 1990s.

Modern day Hollywood isn't surprising. It never should have been. We just aren't looking where we should for the criticism of it. COVID's impact still doesn't help. But seems like we're getting closer to normal and whatever that was for theaters. Add in we've all these places that now provide us w/ content out of theaters. That's still changing everything.

As a matter of fact, it is a reboot and so they're almost-certainly targeting a younger actor.

I wonder if Andy from StitchedTogetherPictures is fixing to do another Boots to Reboots of this and if it'll end up getting the boot this time. Spoiler:
[Show spoiler]it did.

Though you get a pretty good idea of what we don't want to see happen in the intro clip.

He only needs to do closeups and the voice.

I can't say I disagree. However, the percentages are way worse now than they were before. In the 70's, 80's and 90's maybe 75-80% of movies were garbage, but the rest were awesome. Now it's like 90% garbage, minimum.

Back in the day you still had studio/blockbuster movies that still felt auteur driven to some degree at least, now everything feels neutered and made by committee, with the odd exception of course, A24 are killing the game in my opinion.

I think Karl Urban would be a good choice. He isn't too big of a star that he'll demand that his face has to be shown constantly. He already did the movie Dredd where he wore a helmet the entire film.

Either that or cast an unknown for the film.

Why bother, the first was perfection. OK, maybe not perfection, the suit had some moments where it was obviously a (fairly cheap) suit, but still, why?
