Well yes you should (if it's possible), since that will void your warranty. They won't replace it or service it.

Question about this.

I'm thinking in hypotheticals here (knock on wood).

Mine is fine, but if something happened to it what is the process I would go through on sending it in and getting it back?

I got mine on Ebay about a year ago (give or take) and I don't have the original box it came in or any paperwork. Was supposed to get the receipt and all but never did get it.

I also have a replaced HD in there (upgraded to a 320g). and I would obviously replace it and put the original one back in there (which I still have the 40g one)

So if the PS3 would go bad one day (hopefully not) how do I return it? Does it matter that I got it from Ebay with no paperwork or box or anything but the unit + HDMI cable and power cord? (and the controller of course).

Or would they say "we need proof of when you bought it so we know you didn't get it four or five years ago" or something.

Thanks!

yes! all u have to do is turn the ps3 on like normal, then after it loads up, hold down the standby button for at least 10-20 seconds. it will then appear on the tv screen. remember to hold it down, u will hear the beeps but continue to hold it down.

Upgrading the harddrive does not void the warranty, clearly says so in the manual, I am wondering if I will get the exact same ps3 back though or a different unit.

Not only that I replaced the laser and now it plays all Blu-ray discs!

Alright, I noticed that there was a difference in the new laser the old one. Where the actual laser lense is, it has a green tint to it. However, with the new laser it has a light green glow to it, kind of like Cloud's eyes in FFVII. Its not noticable unless you compare it to bad laser.

So I guess thats one of the signs your laser is dying if it no longer has a bright green glow to it. However I cannot say 100% that my original laser had a green glow to it to begin with.

I'll be updating my guide with new pics with the spring soon thanks to kagulo for pointing it to out me. Fortunately I kept my original laser, lol.
Glad I was able to return the favor. Without your guide I wouldn't have know it was possible to replace the laser.

It looks like your PS3's warranty is about to expire. It doesn't matter where you got it now.

No, it doesn't matter if it fails after the one-year warranty period.

All PS3s are covered for one year only. The extended warranties are covered by the individual stores that promote them; they will pay for your repairs. Since you bought it off eBay and obviously your seller is not good at "paperwork", you're not getting the free extended warranty.

Most new 32" HDTVs are only 720p but it has the capability to accept 1080p video signals. It then downscales the video to 720p.

If you are not planning to open your PS3 up, buy a can of compressed air. Use the attached thin straw to insert it past the casing.

You are correct, it doesn't void the 1 year warranty.

From what I've heard Sony requires a receipt for all 1 year warranty repairs. I haven't personally called Sony, but I've got a feeling that if you get the right person and not be a jerk to them, they could do it anyway.

No they won't.
It's either a receipt or $150.

And I could have sworn upgrading the memory would void your warranty, eh.

Exactly. If you dont have a receipt, sony basically treats your system as stolen and you cannot get a warranty repair without paying $150. There is 0 ways around this and its just how it is with sony. Luckily, if you have a receipt, they treat you pretty well.
