Hehe me neither and they sound great for a low end speaker. lol

Seriously it's not hard to beat a c-500 come on at 750$ a pair I don't expect to get best speakers. At 400$ a pair they were an awsome deal.

There is some speakers that sells for about the price of a mortgage but i don't have that kind of budget.

Indeed I went to a show in Montreal where they had all kinds of speakers and yeah it sorts of make your little home setup sound like crap but what I have is way beyond I ever imagine I would be able to afford.

Ditto, I am very happy overall with my c-series speakers. Although I'm always trying to find ways to make them sound better, I would do that with any speaker. Its just fun.

And any speaker can be picked apart like that,or worse, REally he never said anything that bad. It would have costed me much more money to get a significantly better sounding speaker.

I wonder what this guy would have said about the RC50s. They sound quite a bit like c-500s imo. Better obviously, but not by as much as the price difference. He would probably tear those apart too considering they are in a way higher price bracket. And those speakers are highly regarded by many.

They sound great period. Sure there is better stuff out there, there always is. But I don't think you need to classify them as a "low end" speaker to say they sound great. (even if that's what they are)They sound better to me than some "higher end" speakers I've heard before. so yeah.

They sound great period.

Oh and I sort of think that guy was out to promote DIY and his own credibility. It all started because some poster said the c-500s sounded better than a DIY project so this dude got all defensive and went nuts. Although there is a lot of truth in what he wrote, I think he sort of stressed the negatives a little much. There was definately bias in there.

Yeah right.

hey guys got a question..
i have a c-c100 and c200s for my front sound stage, when watching a movie and there is a gun shot or talking that goes from the center to L or R i can hear a difference in sound. not volume but how they sound, its not a huge difference but its noticeable, im running them on a sony str dg720, and i have my center turned up + 4 cuz it was too low and my L/Rs at balance, does this make a big differnce between them, do i need to turn my L/Rs treble up or something? let me kno if theres a fix, thanx

It may be that the Center is turned up too high. Try backing it down. I have trouble understanding how the Center is being drowned out by the L&R speakers. I have the same driver and the C-C100 works incredible with my speakers and I have everything set a 0 db gain. It could be that the 720 isn't getting them enough power??? I don't know, I know I wasn't happy with the 710 I used to have, but the 920 is so much better. I would try the center at no more then +2 and the L&R at 0 db's. see how that works.

Yeah right.

Well indeed it's all subjective but I still understood what he meant. As far as the C-500 beeing a low end speaker i really meant that in the true audiofile world and low end for me means more something like less than 1000$ for a set of Floorstanders which may seem as really high end stuff for the average joe persay.

I love the c-500 and i would not have paid the price différence to get the RC series unless I really had a huge budget. Bottom line yeah I agree they sound great period.

Unhappy Help needed O.o ???

Ok,first im 18,and love HT so bad !!!,but i dont understand how to equalize,my system...i was thinking of calling futurshop for them to do it for me,but its like 400$

Heres what i bought...
Yamaha HTR-6190
7.1 Energy speakers:
2 RC-70
2 RC-10
1 RC-LCR
2 RC-R
1 ESW V10
And also an A5 - 350 from elemental designs...

What i need help with is,equalizing my setup...
I used YPAO,to get the level, distance, but in the GEQ i have no idea how to set that...i know you have to adjust that according to the speakers frequencies...

Like i feel that im really not getting the fullness of my speakers...ex the bass, each time i go to hear it at futureshop it seems tighter and stronger there

After it's complete, I'll post my results here.
I measured the 6.0 KHz - 10.0 K tones using my Radio Shack SPL meter. The tones were on a CD recorded at -10 db below reference 0.0 VU. Using the 1.0 Kh as a reference for the calibration, I turned up the volume until my meter read 75 db which is what I use for calibration reference. All the tones from 1.0 K Hz to 16 K Hz were reasonably flat. I corrected the measurements from a table of correction values since the SPL meter is nonlinear.

I was surprised to find that in the 5.0 K Hz to 10 K Hz there is no hint of a major peak in the response curve. There are some minor variations of about -/+ 3 db but with no pattern and each speaker is different. YPAO always shows a disturbing +5.0 to + 6.0 db peaks in the 5.0 K HZ to 10.0 K Hz range for every speaker and the same exact pattern.

Well, needless to say, I trust my SPL meter and CD calibration disk more than I do YPAO. But why would Yamaha place such emphasis in the 5 K to 10 K Hz range? That's interesting.

YPAO didn't do that for me. Although what it did do was equally as horrible. The only way I can get my speakers to sound as I think they should is to use that graphic equalizer. Using the treble control doesn't work at all. Stresses the wrong frequencies, although Im not sure whih ones.

All that I know is, if the speaker is set up properly, there is no detials in the sound that are close to COMPLETELY missing, and that's how it sounds when YPAO sets it up.

The 160hz and the 63 hz setting in the graphc qualizer there will effect the bass most noticably. Although it's probably not needed if it's absolute accuracy you want. You may enjoy the effect though.

Are your speakers set to small? What is your crossover frequency?

80HZ is the standard, and I even think it's well suited for movies. So you're good there.

I have that same V10 sub as you, I set it to bypass. It just means your letting your receiver handle the crossover.

Also, many people are against using two subs unless they are identical or at least VERY close in performance. The v10 is a very accurate sub, great for music, the a5 is probably better for HT, but less accurate perhaps. Don't know how well they would work together.

And you can try settings your fronts to small, and basss out just to sub. I know I prefer this setting.

I's also very important to find the best position for your sub. If you google info on the "subwoofer crawl" you should find plenty on how to do this. Also, When setting the level for your sub, I know I prefer to keep the receiver's level at default, or "in the middle", and I use the sub's amp to adjust the level.

And ya, I second BigA87 helping you. Makes sense to me.

That's interesting, 130 watts per channel is plenty & really you shouldn't have to calibrate your HT (AMP) setup, my HT is set to 0db on all channels & it sounds incredible, now if you've had the set up for a short period of time you should allow for the speakers to break in for a few weeks but if you still aint happy then get futureshop to send someone over & perhaps calibrate your set up.
