I run my Large all the time.. if theres an LFE signal theres a sub, if theres not, then its just the speakers. However, Dynaudio is the only speakers that Ive heard that is better sounding Large then Small. I recommend that you run them small.

BTW the Model One center is considered Full Range and is prefered to run as Large, Oh let me see yeah it's true it has some older gen Dynaudio drivers, I run my Forest as Large too as recommended by Totem..

I don't think all their sepakers are like that tho. Ran my Rainmakers at 40hz and still are and center also at 40hz.

Mine is almost always set to small. Occasionally I will put them to large when listening to 2ch music. But for movies/tv, always small

when it comes to music, Im more of a traditionalist... I prefer the music without a sub. However if you listen to music with a pipe organ, then you won't have be likely to hear that G peddle, cause it goes so low, therefore a sub that can get to the teens is needed. I chose speakers that could play to 40hz and just below, because most of the music I listen to is rock music, and they can play those low deep bass guitar notes, and they can play the tympani in an orchestra. They also pound out some hip-hop music when asked to. I don't listent to organs, so I don't use subs. If I did listen to pipe organs, then I probably would add in the sub, and probably get a better sub...

I believe the RC-30s can do the same thing, however I have never heard the RC-30s. If you want a little more roundness in bass guitars, or you need to hit that G note on organs, or if you like that club thumping rap, or youre not getting that tympani to sound upfront out of the RC-30s, then adding a sub would be a good thing for you.

If you only want to suppliment your Jazz or Symphony or Rock music, if thats what you listen to, then look at something like the Hsu STF-2.

If you like orchestra with organs, or church music with organs... then look more at something like a Hsu VTF2 MK4 or ULS-15 or a SVS PB-12 Plus, Outlaw Audio LFM-1EX.

In your movie room, leave them set to small, and crossover where it sound best to you, 60-90hz range somewhere.

the spec's say they are 40-23 hz, just like my speakers... with a usable response of 33 hz if setup properly with room gain, again that sound like mine.. I think, without having heard them before, that they shouldn't have to have a sub.... ultimately that would be determined by whatever your personal tastes are. If you want to add a sub for that type of music, you could get a Hsu STF-1 or Outlaw M8, they are 8" subs that play to about low 30s/upper 20s, and it would add a little more bump in the music.

But its really up to you.

What are you hearing??? Do you feel there's a lack of bass in the mix?

I would stick with a musical sealed sub. Something from HSU or Rythmik.

For a bedroom setup I'm sure it will be plenty. What's your budget?

I think this will be for his music room....

Id suggest on a budget to get the Hsu STF-1, it'll still cost almost $300, but will be far better musically then the Energy sub. The Energys subs seem best when you get the V10 or S10.3.

ah I was thinking a sub for just tv and movie watching in the bed LOL. Yeah for music I would look elsewhere, like the STF-1.

The RC is slightly more dynamic then the old C-series persay therefore the bass is a little more emphasized but not quite like the Dynaudios nor the Totem but they have great lows.

Oh OK BigAl, see that was the one thing I didn't know. So I can see why he wants to add a sub into the mix. In that case a nice quick sub would do wonders for his music.

Donaldsonjune, If you look at this link you'll see the Outlaw Audio M8 for $225, Hsu makes the subs for Outlaw, and this would then save you a little money.

I wanted the RC-10 long ago when it was really hard to find new, used cost about $400 and I didn't feel good paying that much for used, thought it went out of production so I lost hope. Instead, I went with the Polk Monitor and for the sound it produces, its a good bang for the buck speakers. I'm so glad to see the RC series back in stock again. I know it has been in stock a while now but I avoided the speaker forum for a long time because I know i'll get the upgrade bug again

Just pulled the trigger on RC-10 and RC-LCR. RC-LCR use to be about $650 and I wanted it so badly, glad it dropped below $300. Use to have the Take Classic then upgraded to the C series (you can see in my gallery). Ever since I switched to Polk, I missed the Energy sound of the C series. I'll be using my C-50 that was stored away for surround duties, don't plan on upgrading them... at least I hope . Also ordered Aura Bass Shakers, this weekend should be fun hooking everything up. Can't wait until it arrives!

congrats, the RC line is a great bargin right now on the remaining stock out there. Im sure it will be a nice improvement over what you remember with the C-series, and over the Polks as well.
