I've been fighting crazy autocorrect stuff too. I'm tempted to shut it off, but it helps a bit more than it hurts on these virtual keyboards and I'm not about to lug my Bluetooth keyboard everywhere.

I've done some tris and some century bike rides but distance running has never appealed to me. Distance running in wet, freezing mountains?

Have fun with that

Add those to my list of titles I missed and wanted to see badly.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one.

I appreciate what Gilliam did and I thought it was a neat concept, but the entire film didn't settle with me.

I just watched Blue and I found it very interesting. I think Krzysztof Kieslowski is my favorite Criterion director that I've seen thus far.

I think the concept of the film was really good. We see at the start of the film how Julie is depressed and suicidal over the loss of her family. She essentially "dies" by selling all of her property and assets and moving to a different part of France. As the film progresses, we see how Julie is impacted by all of the people around and her in the process, she affects them in return.

Every time she went into the pool, I feel as if she was reborn in some way. Through her "new life" that she develops in France, she comes across both new and old experiences and she always ended up "washing the day away and the slate clean" I feel.

I feel as if the color "blue" fits nicely into the story because of the emotions that it gives off. Blue is typically a color associated with a mix of emotions and qualities - such as sympathy, depression, loyalty, friendship, etc. I guess one could therefore argue that it was the perfect color for the film because Julie experienced all of this and then some.

On to White

All films I'd consider to be great, and I'd say most of 'em are better than anything released in 2012, save for maybe one film.
Totally agree. 2011 was a fantastic year for films in general. Maybe the 2012 films seem weak compared to the films released in 2011.

Although 2011 had some fantastic films, it is also the year that Jack and Jill was released. Not even Al Pacino saved this movie from being horrible.

2012 did not have a horribly awful movie of that caliber.

Thanks for the links! It's so much effort to search for each individual title and then click on the little buy-on-Amazon link and add them one by one (that's not a joke).

I never feel like watching it. I've had it since the day it was released and am never in the mood for seeing it , so I may join you there.

I was really impressed by it. It was my favorite film of the year for a couple months, but dropped to my #6 favorite after a while. There were a lot that year that I loved as well, so if it was any other year I'd probably have it higher up.

Hello,

Yes, I'm new here.

I am interested in some Criterion titles but am a little discouraged about the 3K LE issues.

I've looked online and don't where you can find if a release is a LE.

Can someone help me out with this?

I already placed my order for The Blob. I don't see it's a LE.

How often do they do LE's?

Is there a website that has all this info? Didn't see it on the Criterion site or any others.

Thanks so much for the help.

That's a pretty good 2011 list! (at least, the bolded I would agree with). For me, Certified Copy became my favorite after I saw the Criterion release. My order would go:
Certified Copy
Bellflower
Weekend
Tyrannosaur
Melancholia
A Separation
Shame
Take Shelter
After that...I have to go look at my collection to remember what comes next

I think you're confusing Criterion with Twilight Time. TT does limited runs of 3000.

It's Twilight Time that has the limted editions of 3000 copies, not Criterion. The titles in the Criterion Collection that go out-of-print are those on which Criterion's licenses expire and some other company gets the rights (and may or may not release their own versions in equal or better, but often lesser quality). As far as I know there has never been a numerical limit to Criterion's Blu-ray or DVD editions, only a time limit, subject to renewal that may or may not happen.

Short and quick advice is, if there's a copy available of a movie you want on Blu-ray, and you think the price is worth it, buy it when you can get it. (That goes pretty much for any movie, not just Criterion.) There may be a sale or clearence price later somewhere, or there may not; the movie may be still available in a year or two, or it may not. It's virtually impossible to predict.

Right. Criterion's The Blob is the 50s film...the one TT will supposedly release as limited is the 80s film.

Yeah, it looks amazing....but besides that, I think it's pretty awful. I've seen it a few times now, myself..and as I've posted before, the only things I love about the film are the production design and Fassbender's face. It's enjoyable and entertaining, but it's plain nonsense. Nothing anyone does in the film makes any sense, to the point where it's consistently laughable. My most disappointing of last year as well.

I'm sure they'd have been pressured to include it even if it wasn't planned....it's just one of those things you know was coming, no matter how ridiculous it may be.

If you've liked other Wong Kar-Wai films, then the Kino double should be on your list.
I should receive it in on Monday-ish, and I'm looking forward to giving it another chance...Often times if I revisit something after a couple years my opinion can change drastically. I still haven't upgraded my DVD of In the Mood for Love...and also haven't re-watched it in a very long time, so that'll be next on my list.

When do you think we can expect a Monsieur Verdoux review?
