get the RC-LCR it will be a better matched to the RC-50s

It's just a reworked X-over and Cabinet finish, it'a basically a new RC. Nothing to do with the previous gen Veritas.

So if I like the finish better considering the price is the same it wont sound much different from just a xover? Is it reworked as in new component or they changed the freq that it crosses over at?

Just that they made the mids slightly more present so I would just match my center to my towers if you ask me. I would get the LCR honestly if I were you unless you change your 2 fronts as well. If you absolutely want yhe Veritas center in Piano finish, I mean it will be a close match probably better thyan the CC-10 with much greater SQ but I would match my RC-50 finish.

Default Picked up a pair of V5.1

Hey folks, just wanted to stop by and show some love for my new Energy Veritas 5.1 speakers. I'm absolutely blown away by these guys! First off the finish/build quality is out of this world!! Second, the sound quality is second to none. I've listened to a lot of speakers and I can honestly say very few have floored me the way these do. The transperency, depth, and detail make you believe you're listening to a pair of speakers costing thousands of dollars.

Anyone looking for a great pair of bookshelf speakers should look no further. Now my setup is what you would call high end but it gets the job done and I could not be any happier. At $179 a speaker there isn't a better bang for your buck!

A few pics...

DBlackGT,
Congrats on your Veritas!
How do you like your Schiit VALHALLA? How does it compare to your Marantz IA headphone jack, Marantz CD player headphone jack or any other headphone amp you've owned? I've been looking at a couple similar headphone amps( Schiit Asgard & Burson Audio HA-160 ). They both use no ICs, are pure class A designs, with excellent build quality( Schiit-made in America $249, Burson-made in Australia $699 ). I'd rather support the Made in USA product when possible, but I find myself leaning towards the Burson. I might get the Asgard for the 15 day tryout, if I don't like it, I'll return it & go with the Burson.

Thank you very much Zippo! Regarding my Valhalla I absolutely love it! It powers my Sennheiser HD650 and Audio Technica M50 very well. I originally started my venture into headphone hi-fi with just the Marantz CD player and PM5004. Something wasn't right though, my HD650's didn't impress me...they lacked detail, tightness, and were overall very bright. The main problem was that the Marantz components over drove the headphones. By that I mean the volume got louder but the detail and clarity did not.

I then knew the only way to properly enjoy the headphones was with a dedicated amp. I then purchased the Valhalla Amp and Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Man what a difference!! Even without proper break-in time the Valhalla made my 650's sing. No matter what volume, I heard every little detail...violin strings, musicians breathing, chairs creaking, etc.

Unfortunately I've never listened to the Burson Audio amp but I've heard nothing but good things about them. As far as Schiit Audio I'm thoroughly impressed with them. I love the fact they are made in the USA, they are built like a tank, and most importantly sound amazing. I emailed them several times (for various questions and tips) and got responses within hours...extremely down to earth, helpful guys. Makes all the difference in the world when a company is like that.

On another note, I also own a Fiio E11 portable headphone amp (mostly for my Audio Technica M50's). It's also another great little product! While it's not meant for headphones as powerful as my 650's it powers them quite well, I was shocked. To help you out even more though, if I had to choose the Fiio E11 or a Marantz (or any other receiver, cd player headphone output) I'd pick the E11 everytime. That just shows you how important and much of a difference a dedicated headphone amp can make. I could never go back to a secondary headphone jack now.

Well, I'm sorry about the essay I just wrote but I hope it helped you out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Makes sense, seeing how most headphone jacks are included as a convenience feature. Both of my receivers behave the same way when using the headphone jacks.

I own a Grado RA1 ( DC "low gain" model ). It runs off two 9 volt batteries. I purchased it with my Grado RS1s back in 2003, but I never integrated it into my HT system. I think I'll dig it out tomorrow & try hooking it up to my SONY receiver, tinker with it before buying another headphone amp. It should be able to power all my easy to drive cans[ Grado( RS1, SR80, SR80i ), Audio Technica ATH-A700, Ultrasone HFI-780 ]. Eventually I'd like to give ortho cans a try, that's why a better headphone amp will be needed.

Thanks for the reply.

You hit the nail on the head...simply put there's no better experience than with a dedicated component.

After doing a little reading on "Using a headphone amp with a AVR" over at Head-Fi.org, it seems I need to research how my receivers function.

from Head-Fi.org
A bit of warning: some receivers do not output sound from digital sources (i.e. HDMI, optical, coaxial) to their RCA outputs, only to speakers & their built-in headphone out.

Make sure you check how your receiver works before you go ahead and buy a headphone amp.

I thought I would be able to get sound from all my sources( digital & analog ), when using a headphone amp.

edit
It seems that the Head-Fi.org warning was right.
My AVR manual states the following:

-The audio input signals from the MULTI CHANNEL INPUT jacks are not output.
-Only analog input signals are output from the analog output jack.
-Only digital input signals are output from the digital output jack.
-HDMI sound cannot be output.

I think I'll have to run analog audio cables from all my digital sources to the AVR( in addition to the digital audio cables ) to get around the above rules.

Wow! The color and finish on them is really beautiful. Typical of Energy's quality though. Nice purchase. Congrats!

Even at 500$ I consider them to be great deal as they truly are great sounding, amazing step up over the CB-20 if you ask me.

when you first wrote at near $1k, I thought you meant for $1k speakers. There is a lot of competition in that $1k bookshelf range.

Haha I really meant at the price he paid, course at 1K those are just some speakers amongs others but for 179$ i don't think it get any better than that and I am positive this is below cost price as the CB-20 Cost is around 165$

I think it's clear Audiovox wants to get rid of them, I mean rebranding Jamo HTIB speakers to Energy and making Energy Soundbar and now selling those Veritas below cost price is just plain and simple ridiculous. I am really sad about Energy becoming owned by Audiovox, altho Klipcsh had done some changes, I mean clearly they still left some latitude to Energy altho sharing some components but now it going exctly where I did not want them to go, it's killing the heart and soul of this great speaker company and has now become a huge mass product with poor quality control.

That's it.

For what they are and the price tag it's not bad at all.
