And yes Nolan, I just said the Division of my Conf is weak.

Last year it was somewhat close. USC beat Utah 23-14 and the game was @ USC. Though I'm not sure if Utah is supposed to be much better this season over their 8-5 2011 season.

At least this season we won't get another joke Pac-12 South champ like that terrible UCLA team of last season. UCLA lost to USC 50-0, finished 2 games behind them in the conf standings but got the title game bid due to USC on probation.

Wasn't Utah's QB hurt, couldn't throw the ball, and it was at USC? Too big and strong for a thin USC team.

Wynn (Utah's QB) has been hurt 5 out of his 6 years at Utah. Yes, you read that right. Boys gotten too many medical years.

2010 he played the 75% season with a broken shoulder on his throwing arm.

2011 he hurt his other shoulder before Utah shut him down early mid-season.

This year he already missed 1/4 of the camp due to one of his shoulders acting up again.

Utah's problem in 2011 is that they had zero backups at the QB spot. Once Wynn went out, Utah had huge issues moving the ball until their Juco transfer, Hays, (still with the team) figured out how to throw the ball and lost 3-4 games. I think Hay's 1st 3 games were under 100 yards passing. It was just pathetic to watch.

.
Game was close. Utah had a chance to tie it and send the game to OT with a 30 yard field goal. USC blocked it as time expired and returned it for a TD, thus giving them a 9 point victory.

This year Utah is picked to finish anywhere from 11-1 to 9-4 by all of the national press. Their D is sound and is one picked to 1st-2nd in the Pac12 again... but everything will come down to their QB. See the above post for how injured prone he is.

Utah does has an elite 11 freshman QB this year backing up Wynn with Hays being 3rd string. So they have some hope when Wynn goes down this year.

Looking forward to it! We have a tradition at our house where we "eat" the enemy for our game day meal. You can't eat wolverines. We couldn't even find a rare meat dealer on the net that sold wolverine meat... so a friend is making a cake in the shape of a wolverine. Western KY's mascot is a big red blob... so we'll be having (kentucky) fried chicken and moonshine for that game. Game #3 is the tastiest game of the year... the PORK game! Last year we had smoked pork butt sandwiches, pork chops, and conecuh sausage! We have found some bear meat for game #4 and that is as far down the schedule as we have gotten so far.

I just watched one of those "Intelligence Squared" debates on PBS. It was about whether college football should be banned. Any fan of college football should try to catch the show sometime.

One of those arguing in favor of the ban was Buzz Bissinger, author of Friday Night Lights. Wow, is he an angry person! He's like an angry Lewis Black.

Yes, let that sink in a moment.

when we played florida at home in 2010, there were a few guys who had a gator they were roasting on the quad (where we do the tailgating). i got a couple pics of it. those same guys usually do some sort of pig when we play arkansas.

soooo close to college football season!

i have pretty high hopes for my Oregon Ducks this year (been a fan of them for forever ) even with starting a Freshmen QB. of course the game AT USC worries me with a Freshmen QB but it will be a great learning experience and would be a fantastic win, if they can get the win we should be 8-0 heading into that game and Kelly knows how to rally the troops

i'd love to see them repeat as Rose Bowl champions since USC seems hand picked by most to win the NC this year. however that doesn't seem to work well for most teams most years...

a lot of highly anticipated games for me week 1

that's so awesome!

i'm starting a new tradition this year (yeah, i know, sounds odd ) -

i have 4 huge Oregon flags that i will hang during Oregon games from my windows and patios. i also have all brand new Oregon gear (all my old stuff was worn out, but i still keep it and i'm amazed at how much Oregon stuff my local Scheel's carries for being in Wisconsin ) ready to wear

also hoping to get some "Oregon Duck fight songs" on my ipod before their season opener on the 1st

I don't have high hopes for my 'Canes with the dark cloud hanging over our program. I do think we have the right coach in there right now, but the next couple seasons are going to be rough. As long as we can stay competitive, I will be content. We'll get through this and become stronger as a result. Let's go Miami!!!!

Source - http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...-moral-compass

Quote:
Even if the Penn State board of trustees eventually ratified the penalties handed down by the NCAA against the Nittany Lion football football program, some members have made it no secret they disagreed -- and disagreed strongly -- with Mark Emmert and his organization's decision to bypass the usual NCAA investigative process and skip right to the harshest sanctions handed down since the SMU death penalty.

None of that changed Saturday, when PSU trustee Joel Myers blasted the NCAA at a board "team-building" retreat.

"[The NCAA] is a petulant child gone wild. The NCAA, in my view, has lost its moral compass," Myers was quoted as saying in the Patriot-News. "I am tired of being told we need to put practicality above principle. In the cold light of day, we must realize we have to stand up against this. Not stand down."

Myers also attacked what he saw as the hypocrisy of the NCAA making an example out of Penn State for its focus on academics over athletics, while allowing other schools to shirk their academic duty.

"Why is it that the NCAA, which includes among its members universities and colleges that graduate 20 percent of their basketball players and 50 percent of their football players, sanctioning Penn State for allowing athletics to trump academics when it's Penn State that graduates 88 percent of its football players?" he asked.

Among the NCAA actions Myers took issue with were its threat of a long-term death penalty, its vacating of victories dating back to 1998, and its approval of what Myers termed the "theft" of players from the current Penn State roster. Myers' remarks were reportedly greeted with a standing ovation by the handful of alumni in attendance.

But Myers was noncommittal about what action the school should take to "stand up against this," and not every board member was nearly as confrontational.

"It's time for this board and this university to stop looking back and start looking ahead," said trustee Keith Eckel, echoing the comments of board Chairwoman Karen Peetz, who said "we must not — and will not — waver in accepting reality and responsibility."

But trustee Anthony Lubrano endorsed Myers' comments and position.

"This is a family at Penn State. This is not a corporation ... This is a group of people that is hurting very deeply from what's happened, and for us to just blindly say, 'We're moving forward,' without finding that bridge to the past ... we are destined to fail," Lubrano said.

But finding that bridge is much easier said than done when the board seems so cleanly divided over whether it wants to make the effort towards finding such a bridge at all. The NCAA's decision was always going to have far more fallout than simply punishing the football team--and it's becoming clear that part of that fallout are some deep divisions among the university's leadership and community over how to find a (potentially impossible) balance between their natural anger and a clean move forward.

Those members of the board who are disagreement with the actions of the board are free to leave the board. If the board were unified in its disagreement with the NCAA, the school is free not to participate. I don't think anyone will disagree with the sentiment that the NCAA is flawed, but they do some good things. These members just need to move on.

The NCAA has certainly done some things that I disagree with. But I think they were right to hit Penn State hard with the sanctions they imposed. People within the university, athletic department, and football program protected a hid a child molester. For that, they needed to be severely punished. And quite frankly, I'm getting tired of hearing Penn State leadership and fans crying about how the NCAA was too harsh on them. They need to think of the children that lost their innocence forever because of Sandusky.

Michigan fan here. Good luck to you guys on Saturday (hopefully a bit less luck than us ). This will definitely be our toughest test of the year and considering what our road games look like, that is saying a lot. We have a pretty solid team this year but our DL is a weak spot so I'm nervous about how they'll stack up against the monsters on your OL.
