Both suffer from some of the same pitfalls that happen to "3rd" movies, but I personally think Rises is the superior film. Both trilogies are quite strong though. Perhaps the two greatest.

Sucks to hear but it's already being confirmed no extended or director's cut from Chris Nolan on the blu-ray release

Man I really wanted to see the footage he cut out of how Bane became himself.
Damn shame. I wish Nolan would quit being a buzzkill.

And he needs to get on the 3D and wagon as well.

Hi there--

Return of the Jedi
The Godfather Part III
Spider-Man 3
Alien 3
The Matrix Revolutions

I would argue The Dark Knight Rises is quite a bit better than all five of those films.

Spider-Man 3 maybe but the others...nope. I do wish Nolan would do a directors cut to make the movie less stupid.

Hell no.

There are PLENTY of 3D films on the market. No need for Nolan to compromise his vision.

Even if he doesn't, I REALLY wish he wouldn't force Snyder to do Man of Steel in 2D. For all that it was a weird cartoon movie about owls, Legend ofthe Guardians was absolutely top shelf 3D. He was on the record talking about liking working with it so much, and now because (I am assuming here) of Nolan's views on it, MOS is slated for 2D.
Besides the shooting, the lack of 3D is definitely one of the reasons that tDKR didn't make the same kind of bank Avengers did.
Anyway, I'm just saying, even if Nolan sticks to his guns (which I don't see him changing his views on after he's been so vocal), I wish he wouldn't impose him way on directors that like the medium (and again, I'm assuming that's how it went, but it does make sense to me).

Is this catching on in the home video market? I know its good money in theaters but I don't know anyone who wants or cares about 3D.

I've been set up with 3D at home for almost two years now, as a big LotR nerd, I wanted to enjoy rewatches of The Hobbit movies at least the way the director intended. Whether or not it stays around, I like that I'll be able to enjoy some top notch work from this +- decade and see some future classics the way the were intended to be (100" 3D at home is pretty great).

100% agree!

When people in general thinks 3D, they`r only experience besides cinema is probably 40" LCD 3DTV with a ton of ghosting and flicker....

I bought a 1080p 3D DLP projector from Optoma. Absolutly ZERO ghosting...NO flicker.... and 100" Screen! I can tell you....I even think this setup works much better than 3D in cinemas!

If your remotly interested in 3D for your home....Get a similar setup like mine.....It actually cost me LESS than a HDTV.

I have 17-20 REAL SHOT 3D BLURAYS and they look awesome on the projector. I saw Avatar 3D in cinemas, and I remember thinking: I GOT to get this technology in my house as soon as possible!! I was never satisfied with all the demos and tests with various LCD equipment and plasma TV`s.....I did a little research and found out that DLP was the best....Best deal I made in my life!
It is a shame Nolan doesn`t like 3D....If it`s done right, it absolutely is worth it!

Agreed. It's a rushed film that barely has any time to breathe and is filled with mediocre dialogue(most Nolan films have this), plot holes and poor one-liners. That said, I still enjoyed it somewhat and will pick it up to complete the trilogy. It's still vastly overrated, though.

from what I understanding, ghosting/flickering is more prominent on LCD/Plasma monitors but not through projectors.

Call this film weak is a failure of understanding Nolan's themes in this series. Or you failed to accept the film for what it is instead of your own preconceived hype of what it will be.

TDKR is a grandiose finale that few trilogies have. December 3rd cannot come any faster.

I dont know if I would say that Godfather 3 had the SAME pitfalls but you are right about DKR being the superior film. My favorite line about Godfather 3 comes from the Sopranos "...and I think part 3 is just really misunderstood"

BTW, is that Mayhem in your avatar?

I meant "pitfalls" in a rather vague sense. I should have specified. I certainly think Godfather III is strong in many ways and has several iconic moments of the trilogy. But it pales to the first two, quite obviously. I might say the same about Rises, though I think it's at least on par with Begins.

That is me in my avatar

Do you really think TDKR is better than The Godfather Part III?

Yes it is. WTH is the Godfather Part III supposed to be on some other level or something? I must have missed that.

I fail to see what is so "masterful" about TDKR. It's a fairly by-the-numbers film. There's nothing special about the writing, acting or directing. It just has entertaining action, great music and nice effects. I enjoyed it for what it is. Nothing more than popcorn entertainment.
