Please report back on the grain level. The transfer I saw last year looked exactly like the BD with almost no grain.

Wouldn't it be the shits if the only way to get some proper grain on The Shining on UHD would be to pop in Ready Player One? We're watching, WB.

Thinking of all the possible versions of this film that could have been/actually exist stresses me out.

Even then the grain looked a bit 'false' in the Shinning stuff in RPO, like it was a newly generated layer that'd been hung over the top of the image. That's NOT a cue to hit the DNR panic stations button

I really can’t read this thread without hearing Wendy Carlos’ score playing in my head alongside it. Also yeah it was fake grain in RPO as the film worked with digitally painted stills of the backdrops from the film to erase actors, and a lot of new plate photography with sets and body doubles all composited together.

Aye, that's what I thought was the case seeing as it wasn't "just" the movie footage on its own.

Yes. Just what we need. Creepy Ghost Twins in UHD.

Going to have legit nightmares.

Does make me wonder if Full Metal Jacket is next on the UHD list.

I don’t know if I’m more excited about the PQ or hearing the soundtrack.

My guess would be Eyes Wide Shut, given the 20th anniversary.

I like that film but not enough to upgrade.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: there is no Kubrick film I want in UHD more than EWS. All that atmospheric lighting in HDR would be to die for.

Yeah I'd upgrade EWS just to give it another chance. It's one of those movies that just didn't click for me, but if I'm gonna give it a rewatch, what better way than on UHD.

I would bet a decent amount of money that Spielberg would be involved in the restoration.

EWS has always been somewhat mythic in my mind. It came out when I was 11, and all the media hype and press footage was burned into my brain forever, even though I obviously wasn’t allowed to see it at the time. Absolutely one of my favorite movies ever now; it’s never really lost that mystique for me.
