I've been steadily progressing in my own change in diet with a goal of course of losing weight. It started off with me cutting out anything to drink that wasn't water. Then a cleanse with me eating tons of fruit and veggies. That was 10 days long and 2 months ago. I honestly haven't strayed too far from that formula since. There have been hiccups for sure to, as another poster said, to keep my sanity.

In that past couple of weeks, I've gotten into running...more like jogging. My first attempt had me winded and tired after less than 3/4 of a mile. I'm now easing my way through 3-mile runs daily. I'm pretty much losing weight each and every day and am running 6 out 7 days a week.

Be frank, am I doing something wrong? Shall I say, is this an unhealthy way of going about it? I did see someone say your rest days are really when you build muscle. Am I killing muscle by working myself too hard? Is exercising too much a quick way to get rid of what you really shouldn't be getting rid of? Sorry about all the questions, but answers would be greatly appreciated.

I've modified my diet to include fruits and veggies the days ago. I also started a circuit training program for myself today. 20-30 minutes per day doing strength, cardio, and abs.

In this time frame, I have dropped eight pounds. It's not that I ate a lot of junk food, but I was a picker during the day. A granola bar here, left over pasta for a snack there. I am eating three solid meals with an apple, banana, or orange as a snack in between meals.

I started at 189 and I would like to be around 165. I don't have actual date to get there. I'm just going to stay the course and get there when I do. BTW, I'm only 5'6" tall.

Congradulations! I know personally how you feel when I first started my diet 7 years ago I think it was I was five pounds away from being 200 which was NOT where I wanted to be so I cut down how much I ate and cut out snacks and other junk and lost 50 lbs. Of course because I no longer love at home my diet has changed drastically and I have put some of the weight that I had lost back on again but I am working to lose it once more and keep it off for good this time!

Well...I weighed the other day, & yes I'm a BIG guy...I am under 300. For the first time in a loooong time. I knew & felt like I had lost from both how I felt & how my clothes were fitting.

I've dropped to under 295 now & I'm down 2 pants sizes!

Yeah...feels good.
That is AWESOME. I weghed in at 231 today and have dropped 11 lbs. My goal is to return to my old hockey playing weight of yesteryear (205 lbs). Reading of your success is inspirational. Keep up the good work.

I will say that its not a diet but a lifestyle change. I changed my lifestyle about two years ago when my weight approached 250 lbs. I got down to about 215-220 and felt good but I begin to just maintain and didnt get the definition I had back when I was in college and I wanted to get to the next level. I have a few bodybuilders who go to my gym and they all told me that I needed to eat better even though I thought i was eating healthy already. Long story short, one of them gave me his meal plan that he starts 4-5 months before his first show. In the offseason right now, he is at 253. he competes at 200. He counts everything and it is really strict. You will be amazed at whats in these fat free food and stuff. I started counted and charting everything I ate and started eating a lot of food from his meal plan. Pretty much tried to mirror it. I have dropped 18lbs in 3 weeks. Weighed in 223 when I started and now I am a slim 205. I have gained definition and lost fat and some water weight. I lift 5 times a week so you could consider me a gym rat. Whats crazy is I use to run 4-6 miles a day, and couldnt really lose weight. Now I run 2 and just lift but have lost weight because of the diet I am on. This was a eye opener and a new lifestyle change for me. I do give myself one cheat day which is saturday to eat whatever I want. It has worked for me. I definitely will tell anyone to count everything in the foods you eat. You will be surprised at how much stuff these foods have in it.

Derrell,

I also consider mine a lifestyle change. I am also keeping track of what I eat just to make sure what I eat is the best I can do. Eating out is the toughest since we did a lot of that. but, I am trying to keep fresh fruits and veggies in the house so it is easier to make something. I shave always cooking but sometimes eating out was more convenient.

I weighed myself this morning, and I have lost 10 pounds already. I have noticed a BIG difference in my clothes, especially my jeans.

Good luck to everyone and let's all keep it up during the next few months during all the holidays!!!

It has to be a lifestyle change, short term diets will never work. Gotta eat healthy and stay active. I gained weight in college and went from about 185lbs to 220 by the end. When I was living at home for the first 18 years, I had 3 meals, never had cola in the house and Mom didn't feed us KFC or McD's. If I wanted a snack, there was fruit and that was about it.

Going out on my own, I started sleeping in, missing breakfast, eating fast food, snacking on cookies and chips. Well 18 years of this has not helped.

Trying to get back to eating how I did when I lived at home. Breakfast and healthy snacks. Now, we have an 8 month old baby; when she starts eating solid food, it won't be KFC. I need to change my lifestyle for her.

My scale is set to kgs. I have recently gone from 104 to 101. Looking forward to 99 kgs.Goal is 86 kgs.

Allowing your body to rest and recover is very important as well. May want to consider giving your self an extra day or so of rest a week. Also, maybe switch one of your cardio days into doing some circuit training. Good to mixup cardio with some weights as well. Make sure your getting enough calories in your diet to fuel yourself.

basically like a station to station workout....going from a bicep workout, to a chest workout, shoulder, back, leg, tricep, until you get back to where you started. Usually go through this circuit 3-4 times

Been a while since we've posted here.

I now officially have high cholesterol so I've been eating greek yogurt for breakfast and oatmeal for lunch. Dinner is pretty much whatever I want to eat within reason.

In November I was 189 lbs and now I'm at a steady 164.

No soda...no juice.

Soy milk is my new best friend

Since being diagnosed with IBS last year, my diet had to drastically change. I no longer consume red meat, dairy, caffeine, fried foods etc. and stick to a diet of mostly hot/cold cereals (with almond milk), skinless poultry and vegetables. I'll treat myself to a box of Mike and Ike's once a week. I've lost about 30 lbs. in the past 12 months with very little exercise. I do some yoga to help cramps and bloating, but that's about it. I've also begun to do a little weight lifting, as I got sick of having zero definition in my arms. I've noticed doing it throughout the day helps me maintain a sense of wellness.
I take herbal supplements and vitamins throughout the day as well.

I've been pretty sedentary the last couple of months because I work 8 hrs a day sitting in a call center (which won't be much longer) and I hate that I've put on a good 15 pounds. Now with warmer weather I'm going outside and exercising.

I've gone from 301 to around 288 (sometimes go's up from .5 to a pound then back) in just three months. I'm happy taking the weight off slow rather then super fast, took me years to get this bad so I'll keep fighting to loss it all. one day I hope to get to maybe get around to 225.

Since December 2010, my weight has gone from 224 to about 150. I can't take all the credit though, the diabetes did a lot of that I think.
