"The Cult" on DVD.

Coming from the same company that gifted all of us with "Battlespace" and "Recon 2020," I expect nothing but total garbage from this film.

And yeah, it is pretty silly trashy B-rated garbage. It has its moments; acting seems good for what it's supposed to be, photography is not bad, and there are some gruesome bursts of violence and peril. But it has a very weak production value, a story that's only semi-interesting, and weak characters.

Booo!!

2/5 (entertainment: 2.5/5, story: 2/5, film: 1/5)

Shutter Island - 3/5

Meh Right off the bat there was some heavily scripted dialogue between Ruffalo and Leo, which had me worried, but it got better. I noticed a surprising amount of bad editing... like dubbed lines, the lack of continuity of a character's expression or actions between shots, etc. Anyways, the story was ok, kinda predictable. The acting was a bit sketchy when the dialogue was, other than that it was fine. Leo was great (at times ) and if judging by an overall performance, I think Jackie Earle Haley was the best part of this movie...
[Show spoiler]and the guy who jumped Leo
.

Overall, it was ok. I'm curious about what Scorsese is doin next

The bad editing was to create a sense of unease and disorientation, I'm pretty sure Scorsese wouldn't put a blatant error of a woman getting a glass of water and then drinking it even though it wasn't there.

Masterpiece! It gets better with each viewing. So far it's Nolan's best movie imo. (Haven't seen Insomnia and Inception yet.)

Clash of the Titans 2010

Blind buy, great looking steelbook...

As for the movie, I liked some of it. Some good action sequences and special effects but that was really the only thing this movie had going for it. I wasn't expecting much, I knew what I was getting into so I wasn't going to be hard on it. For what it was I was thinking a 3/5, that was until the end. The end of this movie was just so cheap and stupid, why does it have to have the generic happy Hollywood ending?
[Show spoiler]Zeus just brings this girl back to life again like nothing happened, just magically appears and boom the end?
Give me a break, so f'in lame.

If it helps, I didn't like it

I gave it a 5/10 when it came out, it's rather just boring, it's very standard and it does nothing new.

Apocalypse Now Redux (DVD)

Film: 5/5
-4th viewing. Just like the 1st. Every time I watch it, I see a new film <-- the ultimate sign of a classic. Ebert had another definition of a classic film: "A film you can't bear the thought of never seeing again." Yep. This falls in that category too
-This viewing: the score stuck out as insanely good. Rolling Stones and other 70's music I don't keep up on but adore when i watch films like this. Also: the 4-prong bass track when Sheen approaches
[Show spoiler]Kurtz's camp
. Made my blood chill. It's still warming up and not yet at normal temp
-Can't wait for the blu-ray

Thats how I felt about it as well. It had a coulda, woulda, shoulda vibe. Hit the target, but missed the bullseye.

Thank God I never saw previews. I had never even heard of it. My friends and I were at the movie theater (a rare moment for me), and suggsted "Shutter Island". I go: "Shutter what?". AFter hearing about all the preview spoilers, I'll admit ignorance was bliss on this one. Like you always say Squid: the expectation game. Heck I hadn't even set them. i didn't even know if it was a thriller or a slapstick comedy

I am surprised you didnt get hammered by the marketing blitz. It was being pushed pretty strongly...ya know...being a Scorsese film and starring Leo and all. I think I liked the trailer better than the film.

Default The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I never read the book.

Its an overall good "whodunit" detective story blended with a pain extinguishing romance and a search for a missing person. While that sounds simple on the surface, the themes run much deeper.

I really liked this movie. I enjoyed how the character development was told through backstory. I have always been a fan of that.

Overall the acting was pretty good. I enjoyed the directing and storytelling styles as well as the camera work.

The complexity of the main protagonist, Lisbeth, was pretty realistic for someone with her life experiences.

The ending was just a smidge Hollywood for me, (just a smidge) but didnt detract from my overall enjoyment of the film.

Film 4/5
PQ 4.25/5
AQ 4/5

Question for the Dragon Tattoo aficionados....

[Show spoiler]Henrik Vanger, the man that hired Lisbeth to checkout Blomkvist, was told that Lisbeth was by far the best researcher ever. She had dug into Blomkvists affairs and her opinion was that he was framed. Since Lisbeth had just proven herself to be an awesome fact-finder, and came recommended as the best, why didnt Vanger just hire her instead of Blomkvist?
