That would definitely create a more seamless transition across the front sound stage I'm sure.
I still need to connect my reciever to the internet (I shoulda ran a cat5 cable while I was running speaker wire cuz I really don't feel like crawling thru the attic again in the summer heat lol) ... btw the Logitech Harmony One remote is awesome!!!! Setup was easy and it works great!!! Now I just gotta get the PS3 adapter and ill be set

You finally got a feel of what they sound like i know they sound great , I only heard the 6.3 but it's enough to get a good idea of what the lineup can do and i also heard the entire RC line before which was moreless their predecessors. How did you like the finish?

the finish was excellent on those Veritas speakers.

V5.1 - the bookshelf was a little smaller then I expected, the highs and mids were good, the sound was clean for the most part a little conjested in the lower mid-range near the crossover point. My concern with these speakers was the bass; there wasnt any! Even my co-worker, right when we heard them, he was like, the bass is missing.

V6.2 - The speakers were hard to judge as they were playing out in the middle of the room in a setup that had Discovery channel playing on them. I felt the lower highs and upper mids were a little veiled sounding, but this is being a little picky on my part. I could get no idea of the bass, as tv shows like that is all dialog, but the dialog was pretty good and easy to understand.

V6.3 - They were the first speakers I got to hear in my whole time there that were in 2-ch with music. They sounded good, the mids were clear, the highs were clean sounding, and the bass was decent. The speakers were balanced for the most part, but the bass wasnt as good as Ive heard with other speakers at this price. Got to hear some Metallica, Country, the Who and Brittney Speakers. All the music sounded good. When the dealer switched to the PSB T6 that were next to them, the PSBs sounded laidback and dark, the T6s are $1000 less ($2200 v $1200), I felt that while the T6s produced the same level of bass response, I liked the highs of the Energys a little more as they werent as dark and laidback as the PSBs. The mid-range of the Energys were a little better as well, but the PSBs werent far behind. The other speaker I was able to compare the V6.3 to was the Monitor Audio RX6s($1250). This is where my co-worker was in shock. At 1K less, with a smaller cabinet, and with one less driver, the RX6s kept pace with the Energys on every level. Bass was just as good and punchy, the mids were spot on and open sounding, the highs on the MAs were a little smoother, but just as extended and more airy. Really this was the best speaker we listened to when we were there. And if you consider the price of the speakers, the MAs were out of this world in the price/performance category.

Default RC-70s

Hello everyone,

You can see from my signature what types of speakers im running. Since amazon has the RC-70s in stock for under $500, i was thinking of getting them and replacing my rc50s for the front. For those with experience with both speakers, are the 70s worth the upfrade over the 50s.

Thanks

Well depends what way you look at it, how loud do you want to go and how big is your room, yes the 70 are slightly more open may seem to have better midrange and have more slam, the RC-50 you own is quite good already, I see you are running a UPA-5, for the RC-70 you might want to upgrade the amp to the XPA line even with your current setup you could invest the $500 towards a even better amp than the UPA5.

Just my 2 cents but $500 is dirt cheap for those speakers.

Lets just say the room will be about 16x16ft. I am not looking so much for really loud. Im wondering more so for better tonal quality and clarity and all that stuff. I love my 50s but i live in an apartment right now and i cant even use the amp. So i was wondering if spending that extra $1000 woukd net that much improvement over the 50s. And the room would be for a detatched house

For you apartment the 50 are great and als keep in mind they are the same line of speakers, the 50 can take serious power and I mean serious power you can easily feed them with 400 watts and they wont budge, they sound fulll already and pretty good tonal balance but as I said you should get slightly better mids and lows with teh 70 from what i remember but at the level you are listening at the moment it will be hard to notice the true difference. I still say it's a great deal, the 50 can easily fill the 16x16 room and sound great with the proper amp. i honestly don't think the upa will even make them justice to tell you the truth. The 50 were $2000 speakers that could easily use an amp such as the XP3 for example or even better.

If I were you I would just wait and eventually upgrade to another speaker in a whole different class if you want to get all the benefits of a better speaker ll around, but then you know what happens you need to upgrade everything else.

BigAl,

Very sound advice. I really do love the 50s and i think youre right about holding off for now and going with another set of speakers down the line. And i do intend to uograde to the XPA5 when i am able to have my own single family detached home.

If the RC-50s and RC-70s are basically the same as the Veritas 6.2 and 6.3, which they seem to be similar, I would say put your $500 towards something else that will give you a bigger gain in performance.

it's must be the difference, I only heard the 6.3 in the veritas line but yes there are better ways to spend the $500.

if you plan on going withe XPA5 then the RC-50 will do great and sound better fuller with more control and also more open with the XPA line. Another set of speaker would lead you in a whole different league where I believe you would have to invest even more on the amp but let's just say this let us know how you like the RC-50 once you exploit them close the their full potential in you own house . Good luck with you future plans, 500$ on a house is better invested than on RC-70.

I asked the same thing over at avsforum. I listen to music more, and was told the added midrange really helps.

Vanns has the RC-70's at $399 for their deal of the day. I picked up 2 of their open box ones that are in perfect shape for $314 each. They get here Friday

Now to just unload the 50's...

Okay, so I realize that I really love the sound of my Energy RC speakers. I especially love the 50s and using them as my mains for my 5.2 theater system right now. As I mentioned before, I have been eying the RC-70s on Amazon from Vanns because I wanted the top of the line speaker from the RC series when I have my own dedicated theater system in a couple years. With that said, I broke down and purchased a pair of RC-70s through Amazon for $800!!!! I just couldn't pass up the great deal. I also purchased a pair of RC-10s for uses that I'll figure out later. But for both pair of speakers, I spent around $1,000. I think I have my dream speakers at the right price point for me for at least a few years. I probably won't even open up the RC-70s since im moving soon, but they'll be safe and sound until they're ready to play front and center. I just wanted to share my exciting experience.

Thanks all

Congrats! I just purchased a pair of brand new RC-70s from them for $800! I'll keep the 50s and move them to the living room for two channel audio.

Congrats on the speakers and as I did mentioned yes you will gain in themids for music and AVS people did confirm what i said, I know i had said to keep the 50 for the price you were going to spend on the 70 but I think you are going to like them a lot, Nonetheless the V6.3 is even better in the upper mids.

Ohhh yes, the 50s are amazing speakers. Its too bad i have not been able to hook up my amp to them and really hear them sing, but ive heard them at high enough volumes to really appreciate their beatiful sound quality. Like yourself, i will not be upgrading these beautiful speakers for a long time!
