It is only 448kbps.

Gone With The Wind is 238mins with Dolby TrueHD English 5.1, Dolby Digital English 5.1, and Dolby Digital English Mono.

But wait there's more... the film also has supplemental Dolby Digital French 5.1, Dolby Digital Spanish 5.1 & Mono, Dolby Digital German 5.1, Dolby Digital Italian 5.1, Dolby Digital Portuguese Mono, and Dolby Digital Japanese Mono tracks.

That's 10 audio tracks on one BD-50.

Going by the pictures posted, Grindhouse only limps by with two audio tracks: Dolby Digital English and French 5.1.

I was just thinking about this myself. Even if there wasn't anymore room on the BD-50! I would of preferred to have a lossless track over a few extras which they could of squeezed onto the second disc.

No way! I was so gutted by this news.

I have now stepped in and cancelled my Amazon USA order. I was one of those who got it for the $13.99 price, but no HD audio is absurd given that the separate releases have great soundtracks.

Am hoping the UK release has it, but somehow I am not confident. Shame!
Thanks for sharing the info, though.

Not really more important, but if you're familiar with these movies they both have great soundtracks and lots of action, so great sound is a must. Combine that with the fact that many of us already have the single versions (with lossless sound) and it gets harder and harder to double dip for that cool package and the extra trailers. I'm not too sure why they skimped on the video encode either, although none of us probably would've noticed anyways.

I can't believe Q.T. or R.R. wasn't consulted about this release not having uncompressed audio! This is not acceptable at all. I guess I get to spend less money on Oct 5th then. I have to many other films to buy that day anyhow.

Beauty and the Beast, The Exorcist, Secret Life of Kells, Maltese Falcon, Treasure of the S. M., Year without Santa Claus (I think it has uncompressed audio!) Troll 2, Oceans 11 (Original) and some DVDs Season 7 of Mary Tyler Moore, Slumber Party Massacre, The Evil/Twice Dead.

Vivendi will become not very liked for blu-ray releases because of low quality audio.

There needs to be an industry standard or the film shouldn't be allowed to be released.

This is a quote from Vivendi's website: "Our company’s strategic vision is driven by the needs of the consumer. We are committed to anticipating these needs and building consumer loyalty as we create and deliver high-quality services and products that satisfy consumers around the world."

If that is truly the case, then they need to either do a recall or disc exchange like other companies have done when issues like this have arisen. Disney did it for Pirates of the Carribean, Paramount did it for Gladiator and Saving Private Ryan. There are many other examples as well. If the position of the company is as it states above, then that is the least they can do.

It is not like the soundtrack does not exist, as it is on the individual releases, and it is relatively new theatrical release. I, too, thought the packaging was nice, but I would prefer the disc to come in a brown paper sack if that is what it takes for a lossless soundtrack. I can make my own packaging.
