It will forever be evergreen. It's also still selling well on eBay, albeit many are stupidly buying the bootlegs (both the copycat and blatant ones).

I'd be that guy to drop money on the Eva Blu-rays once they're released stateside. I remember upgrading to the platinum release after buying the original black box set and was amazed with the PQ. I'm sure I'll be just as impressed with the Blu upgrade after seeing the clarity of the rips floating around online. To think, it was a blind buy for me and turned out to be one of my favorite series after all these years. (Can't say I'm a fan of the dramatic change they pulled in 3.33, though... I absolutely loved 1.11 and 2.22. Rewatched them so many times already.)

Another Lawsuit For Evangelion But Now It's Studio Khara Against Gainax

Quote:
The Mainichi Shimbun newspaper reported on Friday that Studio Khara has filed a lawsuit against Gainax regarding a 100 million yen (about US$878,777) debt that Gainax allegedly owes Khara.

According to the filing at the Tokyo District Court's Tachikawa Branch, Khara and Gainax had an agreement that Khara would earn royalties from income Gainax received on works and properties that Khara founder and Gainax co-founder Hideaki Anno had worked on. Khara alleges that Gainax has delayed on paying these royalties. Gainax incurred a large debt with Khara. Khara loaned 100 million yen in August 2014, but has yet to receive repayment and is suing for about that amount.

Gainax declined to offer a comment to the Mainichi Shimbun, and Khara's lawyer also refrained from offering details.

According to a private credit research company that the Mainichi Shimbun quotes, Gainax had an income of 240 million yen (about US$2.10 million) during the period ending in July 2016, a tenth of what it earned five years ago.

Hideaki Anno and current Gainax president Hiroyuki Yamaga were friends and schoolmates at the Osaka University of Arts. They, along with Toshio Okada, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Shinji Higuchi, Yasuhiro Akeda, and Takami Akai, co-founded Gainax in 1985 (the company was formerly named Daicon Film after the anime shorts they made for the Daicon III and IV sci-fi conventions). At Gainax, Anno directed some of the studio's most iconic franchises, most notably Neon Genesis Evangelion, but also Gunbuster, Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water, and Kare Kano.

Anno left Gainax in 2007 to found Studio Khara, where he worked on the new Evangelion anime film series in collaboration with Gainax. Anno has since directed the Shin Godzilla film alongside Gainax co-founder Shinji Higuchi.

Sorry for the necro-bump on this thread. What is the difference between the two Funimation releases of 1.11? Is it just different packaging?

Grabbed this from the EVAGeeks forum
1.0 - Theatrical version. Not available for purchase.
1.01 - DVD version. Some alterations from theatrical version that barely anyone will notice. Really dark, hard to see night scenes.
1.11 - BD version. New scenes added. Picture brightened.

I think all the bonus content that features "Fly Me to the Moon" has been dropped due to licensing issues with the song; and maybe a few other minor bonus features, as well, for other reasons.

Basically, from what I understand, the first release was pretty much identical to the JP release because it was assumed everything was properly licensed. When it was discovered some things weren't, they were dropped from the re-release.

Any word on this series hitting Blu? I've never seen it but have heard good things. I'm knee deep in Cowboy Bebop now and am loving it. I kinda avoided anime in the past but am starting to warm up to it recently

Not anytime soon. Get the platinum DVD set and enjoy the series. The PQ is decent as far as DVD goes.

Got excited with this being bumped it was finally coming out. Guess I'll have to keep watching the platinum Dvds. I had the parking sticker from the first one on 2 different cars for years before I finally lost it. My 2nd favorite series of all time (behind Ranma)

lol, my sticker's gone through two cars too. Haven't lost it yet.

Shame nobody's ever come up to me and say "hey, isn't that an Eva thing?" But it still amuses me to cruise around with it, as if I could be a real NERV employee with his own parking spot. Chances are I could tell people I work for NERV, point to the sticker, and nobody would ever suspect it's just anime paraphernalia.

The Platinum set is regularly around $100/$150 on eBay, sometimes even cheaper than that. Still a tad pricey, but if you don't like it you can always resell it.

https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Neon-Gen...ion-DVD/20781/

Though there was that Holiday Edition version I wanted to get.

Yeah, my wife asked about it when we first started dating but nobody else ever questioned it. It was nicely in a row with a few other parking stickers. Probably my favorite ever anime pack in.

At least it fared better then my Saleco IX sticker from Eden of the East. I only had that on my phone for 2 weeks. Put it down on a humid piece of wood and that was that....

While mine turned up a few weeks ago while rooting through my old shelves in my parents' house. Unfortunately I don't have a car to use it on, but maybe someday...

EBay is rampant with counterfeit/bootleg copies of the thinpacks edition, very hard to get a legit copy anymore.
