I love this movie but it's sounding like the premium day 1 pricing may not be worth it, plus lots of other releases vying for our dollars.
I thought Universal already learned this the hard way with The Bourne Identity.

Another review as well.

No idea if the screenshots are sourced from the disc? No blurry black bar for example. But if disc sourced:

Pixelated around these objects.

Jeff may be regarded as a "pro" by his followers but he's basically Joe Sixpack with a YouTube channel and his user base reflects that. We all want different things and I don't get what I want from his channel, so I don't click on the vids even for comedy value, it's just not worth my time.
Like I said, I actually really like Films At Home. He is a studio insider. It was a news video of his from which I got the release date of the Speed UHD and was able to be the one to submit the disc's listing to Blu-ray.com.

That is clearly not disc sourced. Not even the worst UHDs are that pixelated.

It’s common that reviewers get promo copies pre-launch. That doesn’t make you an insider. I’ve never seen anything from Films at home so I cannot comment on his work.

Because he shows them his social blade stats, and they give him a partnership. Kino sent him a load of HD Blus that were completely outwith his wheelhouse. He famed interest, claimed he might review them, ultimately didn't. More than likely sold them for some tacos.

I suppose all data sets need values that are wildly incorrect. But "so few places"? I'd say it's the opposite, there's never been so many opinions about discs flying about on existing "trusted" sites, blogs, Facebook groups, YouTube and indeed forums.

In terms of technology, all opinions are definitely not equal.

Every studio has been doing 2K upscales on UHD, upscales from master-grade digital source masters (DSMs) created from digital intermediates sourced from raw camera files or negative scans. That is not what Bourne Identity's UHD was, it was an upscale of an old HD transfer from an interpositive and to my knowledge is the only example of such on UHD.

We have a vastly different interpretation of the words "studio insider" here. More like "professional blagger".

Getting an advance copy of a movie for review is a really low bar for "industry insider". How would you define industry insider relative to their qualifications?

It reminds me, I used to host a movie review show for our cable access channel in college. I would go to early screenings of films and run down to X local station to get the film's clips to use for our show. I can tell you I was in NO way an industry insider. Just a kid, "cos-playing" Siskel and Ebert.

I only really watch Jeff's videos as background noise, so take this with a grain of salt, but I'm fairly certain he's mentioned in the past having contacts in the home media divisions of one or more of the major studios, having conversations with people. That's a little more than simply getting review copies in the mail.

You can get on mailing lists for review copies on twitter.
That would be a contact with them, with their social media managers

Maybe I'm a sucker, but I buy most of the films I'm interested in on UHD. Including pre-ordering Inglorious Basterds. At this point, even though most UHDs are not perfect, they are often times the best the film has ever looked on a home video format. It's not a guarantee, but the good discs far outnumber the bad, at least in my opinion. Not to mention that HDR doesn't come across in screenshots and that for me is the best aspect of the format. I have a feeling IB is going to fall into the "not perfect but better than the BD" category, and I am fine with that. It's Tarantino on UHD, I can't wait!

See edit. Didn't expect such a lightning fast response. Having a conversation with someone on the phone is different than having an account you're able to DM on Twitter.

At this stage I watch FaH for entertainment also. He holds himself to such high regard but I don't put any stock in his reviews.

Yes he does tend to hear about new release news pretty early, but beyond that . . .

Needless to say my preorder is still intact.

He says it so it must be true.
