Drives me up the wall. 4 times out of 5 I take a picture with my cell and try to post it, it doesn't let me. To a point I don't even bother anymore.

Got my Armour of God box set delivered this morning and spent the whole afternoon/evening giving it a watch.
I saw the film on the big screen a few months ago when 88Films showed it at the Stratford Picturehouse and the print is exactly the same 2K Remaster. I watched the original Hong Kong version on Disc 1, the International version is on Disc 2. I chose the original Cantonese Theatrical 2.0 mix and it sounds great, the songs and music sound pretty fantastic and probably the best the film has sounded after the various VHS and DVD releases over the last 3 decades. The extra features are plentiful, The Art of Action with Scott Adkins and Mark Routeledge is good with some interesting tidbits about the various action sequences told from a Martial Art perspective. Jackie Chan on VHS is my favourite of the extra features as it shows off the complete UK Jackie Chan VHS collection from VPD, it brings back some wonderful memories of all the cool (and uncool) VHS artwork that was displayed across many VHS stores here in the UK by the VPD company. Rise of the Phoenix is a small-ish doc on all the various behind the scene tidbits by Radek Sienski, he covers Jackie's injury, Eric Tsang part time directing, the various editorial issues that cover the first few mins of the film, the stuntmen etc - it's a very informative and interesting feature and one I'm sure many other fans will enjoy. Celebrity Talk Show is a 1 hour interview with Jackie Chan from around the time of Miracle The Canton Godfather where he discusses his injury and time on filming Armour of God, the various issues with working with foreign crews and how Hong Kong competes with Hollywood blockbuster films, again a very cool extra feature to have (In Cantonese with subtitles) There also a Hong Kong Movie Tour with before and after photos of all the various shooting locations of the film (check out their instagram page for more before and after photos from other various Hong kong films) There's some Japanese outtakes, various trailers for the film, Interviews with Willie Chan (around 5 mins) and a lengthy interview with Jackie Chan from around 2000, also a spoof video for the Jackie Chan song 'High Upon High' Haven't had a chance to go through the various commentaries yet but they do seem to be very informative and full or trivial information and behind the scene stories etc The 88 page booklet looks phenomenal with tons and tons of rare pics and information, you're going to need a few hours to get through this booklet and it's one of the best ones produced by 88Films, hopefully they'll keep inc more booklets with other forthcoming Hong Kong releases. You get a poster, art cards a thick blu-ray case all housed in a strong and thick cardboard box - what else do you want???? Again thank you to everyone who contributed to this release, you guys have done a remarkable job! This is truly the definitive release of this classic Jackie Chan flick! That’s what I have to resort to as well, when I can be bothered, but it really shouldn’t be necessary to have to do that. This is the only forum I post at that is absolutely gimped in the photo-posting department.

I might be a bit biased because I worked on this release, but my God, it is absolutely incredible and beyond what I imagined. Love the artwork, the new transfer, an array of audios and subtitles.
The best thing out of the whole set for me is a beautifully subtitled Celebrity Talk Show which in my opinion is the best interview Jackie ever gave. Super detailed but also with a lot of laughs and humanity. It’s super chilled and gives a great insight into him at that time. If there was ever a boxset of these, I’d be the first one to buy it, haha. |
