I'm fine with watching subtitled movies but I find English subtitles playing during English dialogue very distracting. I only want subtitles for the foreign language dialogue. Ie how the movie would be displayed in theatres in an English speaking country.

So you understand every English accent and words even from Irish, scottish or just foreign actors in general like here trying speaking English ?
Or how about movies like TENET where you really need subtitles to make out what the characters say many times in the movie and Branagh with his russian/english accent ? In many movies characters whisper too and you tell me you do not need subtitles there either ? English subtitles should be a must for EVERY movie because of all this. |

I'm English so yes.
Anyway you misunderstand me. I'm not saying this movie should not have English subtitles available as an option. I object to there being an all or nothing approach to English subtitles for the foreign language dialogue. Once again, I would like the movie on 3D blu ray presented as it was in theatres in English speaking countries. I don't want to have to watch the movie with either English subtitles on for the whole movie or having to keep turning them on and off whenever foreign dialogue is spoken, like with Black Widow. In theatres in English speaking countries you wouldn't have English subtitles on for the whole movie (unless you intentionally sought out a special showing) so it's an annoyance to contend with on disc. |

Therefore, we won't know for certain until someone checks the disc, but the back cover should provide a clue. |

The problem is that these aren’t localised for English at all. If there was an option when you started the disc that said ‘English/Japanese’ like how the old MCU movies often have 10+ languages to choose from before the menu, we’d be fine. But these are released only for a Japanese audience, so there’s no consideration given to that and no advanced setup. Like someone else said, unless the subs for the non English parts are hardcoded (extremely unlikely) then we are going to be in a similar boat as with the Black Widow release.
At this point, I think it would be worth emailing Disney Japan (email in English and then one below in translate, seeming as they probably have English speaking employees whereas there’s always a chance nobody speaks the weird alien frog language google makes going from European to Asian languages) and say how these 3D titles are being mass imported by an English speaking audience and it would be great if they could add forced subs for the non English parts with the English audio track. It certainly couldn’t hurt! ![]() |

So that should mean IMAX has exclusive control over the opened aspect ratio version and we’ll be getting cinema style widescreen on the disc. I wish companies would stop letting IMAX hold their media hostage. Now that they don’t even require movies to use their own cameras and cinemas can call their screens IMAX if they are 10% bigger than average it’s beyond a scam, and collectors get shafted for the home release. Just make it in good old 16:9, and if IMAX want to show it they can display that version ![]() |

Sorry, I definitely wasn’t clear there, I meant that part in general, as there are a couple on the forum for whom it appears to be a dealbreaker. I haven’t preordered yet but I will be in a couple paydays from now!

Yes, we should all be so damn happy that there will be a 3D disc of "Shang-Chi", especially because it is a fresh entry to the MCU & has wonderful 3D, according to the reviews.
I hate these situations when a 3D movie goes straight to the studios vault. (Fallout, Bumblebee, Soul, Raya,..... ). Then nobody knows if we will see it ever in our lifetime in 3D again... Wouldn't be so frustrating at all, when we would know there is the start of a new 3D circle with Avatar 2 & sequels and brand new 3D TVs announced... In these unsure times I "pray" for a 3D Blu-ray of upcoming films like "Spiderman: No way home", "Sing 2", "Dr. Strange 2", "Minions 2", "Jurassic World 3", "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3", "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3", "Antman 3" |

So do I!
![]() I do think the subtitle situation is a shame. Then again, considering I was convinced we were never going to see another MCU 3D blu again after Black Widow got delayed over a year due to covid and didn’t get released in the usual places like Germany and the U.K., I am just grateful these discs exist. When they exist, you can buy them, remux them, and make versions with perfect subtitles. You can mux in better audio from the 4K. As long as they give you a product which has the 3D video stream in pristine quality, you have options. 3D is becoming increasingly a niche hobby and like any niche hobby, us hobbyists have to jump through hoops and tolerate certain things in order to keep doing what we love. It is what it is, and like I’ve said before, when they stop releasing MCU movies in 3D altogether we’ll look back on the Japanese only days fondly ![]() That being said, I’ll still be emailing Disney Japan to ask if they can include forced English subs in future releases and talk about how many people are importing these and how they could improve sales. Can’t hurt ![]() |

I believe this has already dropped in price a little? I feel like the first time I checked it was $90 with shipping but now it’s $80?
