Sorry, I'm too hungover to read all the pages but can someone please tell me what's wrong with this one?

Getting tired of asking this for what seems like every 4K release, but it's the world we live in I guess.

chroma noise and bad compression but...

- someone took caps making it look worse than it actually does either due to uncalibareted home setup and/or improper screenshots

- caps a holic shows it's not as bad as people are making it out to be

- some people are zooming in on almost every shot to find a problem

- the problem is not as bad as that

in a nutshell: not a great release, does have issues, not as bad as people are making it out to be, better than the silence of the lmabs 4k release in terms of quality, completely serviceable. typical blu ray forum whining/entitlement

Is this a joke? You’re too ‘hungover’ to read through a thread so you want us to do it for you?

Maybe stop drinking then.

Do I really have to defend myself for wanting to go back and sift through all the pages? Hungover or not, who gives a f?

Relax.

I'm an owner of a Sony X-800 and later a Panasic UB420 which died prematurely. I had both players on my set up at the same time and the Panasonic's Chroma Upsampling was much better than the Sony X-800 ('though in the end the Sony ended up being a more reliable player that still works).
Reading your posts about the Invasion Of The Body Snatchers UHD BD it is clear that the disc has some issues but, could it be that different players/Chroma Upsampling algorithms render different/better/worse results with this disc?

Interesting, you got the same projector as I and I got a 130" screen. I need to test this myself.

This seems like a YMMV disc. The disc has compression issues in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision with chroma errors and bad film grain rendering. Some users say they not notice these but the disc is littered with them throughout the whole movie. It also seems like maybe the equipment might have something to do with it regarding the chroma errors. The bad film grain rendering will appear no matter the type of setup. I’ve checked out the disc in both my PC and TV (two setups with completely different hardware) and I find it astounding some people don’t really notice these issues .

You can find links showing the compression errors here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...8#post19624628

I’d recommend waiting for someone else to license the restoration to release a different, and better, 4K disc with less (or no) compression errors. This is very likely to happen in the international market. It’s just a matter of time.

I think if people are paying $25-40 for a disc on a premium format, they're within their rights to expect it to look better than a Netflix stream.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who are happy with how it looks, and sure, the screencaps probably don't show the whole story, but there are plenty of other releases which hold up in caps and in motion. Fact of the matter is, the encoding of the disc just isn't optimal, and could be improved if another authoring house took a crack at it.

But yeah hopefully Kino will get someone else to do the encodes for their other upcoming 4K disc releases. Especially since they have such a good catalog of upcoming 4K titles. If not… well, let’s just say I won’t be preordering any Kino 4K discs anymore.

Yep, and if you don't like whining just read the reviews here at Blu ray.com because lately you never find any mention - or should we say whining - about compression.
