But I am thinking that a change to this would be beneficial. Because everything won't be out in the middle of the room. Almost every system I have had has always been set up this way.

Your room should always be longer than wider, your second diagram will help your sound.

here is a room calculator just download the excel file and put in your room dimensions

I recently bought the 9s and thought they were priced about right between the 7 & 11's, pretty much midway in terms of cost and specs. The only spec that might be slightly out of kilter is the low frequency extension number. With a decent subwoofer though I think the 2db number is much more important and the 9 at 51 is smack dab between the 7 @ 54Hz and the 11 @ 48.

To me it looks as though paradigm might have decreased the size of the case a bit too much between the older versions and version 6. As I understand the extension number the size of the case has a major impact and they decreased the size quite a bit (almost 20% less if I've got the right numbers). Personally I wished they had left the size alone as I felt compelled to bolt on a plywood base to keep the cats from knocking them over.

I wasn't able to listen to the 7's and 9's side by side as they were in different rooms but in trying to strike an affordable balance between the different components I thought the Monitor 9's were a great speaker and two months (or so) later everyone here is very happy with them. I did get the floor models for about 20% off msrp which may have made them seem even better.

I don't think a person can go wrong with any of the Monitor series from what I've heard......

I think twitch is right, somewhere in the 10% range. I also understand that the only speaker not going up in price is the Monitor 7.

If you have a choice between Studio 40 v.4 or a Studio 20 v.5 as surround sound, then which one would you choose? The Studio 40 is going to be used and cheaper while the Studio 20 is probably gonna be new and more expensive.

Currently, I'm using a Studio 100 v.5 for the front and CC-690 v.5 for the center with a Sub12.

Please help me decide which is the best for the surround sound

Thanks,

So, the price increase is on 95% of the paradigm catalog. But it is not a universal price increase %tage. Some stuff, like the PBK able subwoofers have increased more than other things. Stuff like ADP190s have only gone up marginally.

But 8% is not a bad ballpark amount.

SO I changed my configuration around and fired up the system. Definitely an approvement in the bass department, not as much as I hoped, but it was there. Two thing I attribute this to:

1) the speaker are still breaking in, which I expected
2) I am utterly spoiled by my Sub12.

I truthfully don't think you would notice that much of a difference sound wise between the two speaker for that usage. The other factor you must look at is warranty. The 20s would come with the full warranty, and if you happen to blow on for some reason, at least you are covered.

Thanks,
I was shopping for the 20's or an ADP-590 last summer and have the same speakers as you. I ended up with the v4 40's because of the price - it was cheaper than the v5 20's and that was with J-23 stands included. The 40's are great for surround use with bass that I never expected to get from surrounds!

I would also consider what you will be using for them. Mounts? Stands? If stands I wouldn't get anything too tall for the 40's. I use blu-tack and the screws for the stands too.

I have almost the same configuration as you except a sub15. I just order Studio20 V5 as surround and Studio10 V5 as surround back as I heard that Paradigm increase their prices by 10-15% on April 1st. If you can afford Studio20V5, go ahead, a good match with your speakers since you have Studio100 and CC-690 which are top of studio line. The best surround sound? Both are good drivers. It's just a question of price.

I just picked up my monitor 9s today. So far they sound great. I cant wait till i can afford to get a center and some surrounds. Today is the first time ive used my pio vsx9040 too. Between the 2 i feel like i got an amazing ratio of quality to price.

I think next up for me is gonna be a pair of the cinema series surrounds. There half the price of the monitor adp190s. I cant imagine them being bad since there sill paradigms.

I will still use my Energy bi-pole surrounds but may look at the ADP-390's in the future as I really like bi-poles.
