I just went there and looked up my 3 tuna rolls which I thought I was getting a deal on for 9.99 at my local sushi guy. Turns out I'm taking in 750 calories and SIX HUNDRED mg of sodium almost everyday just at lunch!!! |

I've gone down from 270 to about 259 myself. My wife has lost 15 lbs herself. Healthier eating seems to be doing the trick. Hoping to get down to 225 eventually. I'm hoping that if I get down to 250 I can start exercising a bit more. Don't want my joints given me grief. 20+ years ago I jumped out of planes and it is catching up with my ass now

This app has helped me out tremendously, and the fact that you can scan barcodes makes it that much easier. Plus it's a nice community and you can get great tips on exercise and new recipes. I know It's not 100% accurate but +/- 200 calories is what I tell myself and that's pretty good instead of being kept in the dark. |

I'm 21
Male 5' 10" My heaviest was 275 lbs. I originally started going to a gym and doing beginner exercises like the stationary bike in April 2011, this was a great start but I didn't really change my eating habits. I got to around 235 pounds by December 2011 In January 2012 I decided to get serious, I started tracking my eating habits religiously and I started Power 90 to get some more strenuous exercise in my routine. I cut out alcohol (sucks cuz Im 21 and all my friends like to drink) Today I am at 170 pounds and I just started the Power 90 Master series 2 weeks ago and i'm loving it. I hope to start P90x in November or December ![]() I use the Loseit.com Iphone app everyday, it helps me make sure I keep under my daily calories and helps me make sure I get enough Protein! Congrats on everyones journeys, keep up the good work ![]() Me Today:[IMG] ![]() Me in December(hard for me to look at lol): [IMG] ![]() Last edited by JC_20010; 08-21-2012 at 08:46 PM. |

i was a skinny kid in high school and now i'm just over 280.
i'm 6'1" and that 280+ is NOT a good weight for me. i started to get depressed when i started having to buy larger and larger clothes. that's when i decided to do something about it. i'd like to be around 220-230, with a lot of it muscle. my friend works out every day and ways around 195. he's only 5'7" so his weight is where he needs to be. he also has almost no fat so he's definitely in way better shape than me. unfortunately he lives almost 2 hours away so working out with him is a no-go. and i don't of anyone else that lives near me that works out regularly. i've started eating better (grilled instead of fried) and have cut down on the amount of red meat i meat. i eat more chicken and fish now. as well, i used to drink about 12 of the 20oz dr peppers a day. i've cut that down to 1 a day. i've also started taking a supplement that helps burn fat and increase metabolism. i do get some exercise as i do yard work whenever i can. and at this time of year, with the cooler weather, it makes it easy to stay out for extended periods of time. i'm also trying to not be so lethargic. i find myself getting up out of the chair more and just moving around and looking for things to do rather than just sitting there watching tv or cruisin' the net/playing video games. when i was in college, i worked out every day and was in great shape. i want to get back to that and maintain it. it's an uphill climb, but i know the end results will be well worth the journey. a lot of the people in this thread have given me some things to which to aspire. i haven't weighed myself in some time. i need to do it so i can see where i am now in relation to where i started. |

Congrats to everybody in this thread who has lost weight! Looking over all these stories is rather inspiring.
![]() I've always committed myself to some exercise, but it was more like the bare minimum, and I never did watch what I ate that much. At one point, I think I got as high as 250 lbs, but it usually hung around the 230 mark. My height is 5'9". Yep, I've always been overweight. A few months ago, my parents started to go through a lifestyle change of sorts; they went on more walks, cut out certain foods, cut down on portion sizes, and stuff like that. My mom especially wanted to get healthier to show up her snobby doctor. So, I followed their example. Even though I've always tried to keep up jogging 3-4 times a week, I stepped it up by jogging longer and faster (I can now run through longer paths and steeper hills that I couldn't handle before; I think my time must be 9 minutes a mile). I've incorporated some more upper-body strength workouts at least once a week. More importantly, I've cut down on eating a lot, by limiting all the sweet stuff (no more than one serving a day), sizing down my lunches, and avoiding all forms of fast food and snacky stuff. I've replaced a lot of things with healthier alternatives. As a result, I've now dropped to 210 pounds; a net loss of 20 pounds over the past couple of months. I managed to fit into clothes that used to be tight on me, and other clothes have become surprisingly loose. I feel healthier overall. So yep, I'm happy. ![]() |

I wish I could get my "edge" back or my "eye of the tiger" so to speak. As I mentioned before, I was using myfitnesspal to monitor my caloric intake and exercise. I always stayed within my caloric goals, except on Saturdays as it was my "cheat" day. As far as exercise, I would get up at 4am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. I would start off with a 3 mile run @ 6mph on treadmill (roughly 10 minute mile). Afterwards, I would do strength training on a machine and alternate different muscle groups depending on the day. I had far more willpower and could turn away anything not in my "caloric plan" during the week. I felt great! I started out weighing around 230 lbs and worked my way down to 200 lbs ( I think I even dipped below 200 lbs for a short time).
What has changed since then? An injury! ![]() I have tried, off and on, to get back into my old routine. Problem is that I now have a more difficult time getting up at 4am (too tired) and I'm not running as much as I used to (combined walking/running instead of just running) due to this *&^%$ torn ligament. I'm sure with time, I may be able to run like I used to. I would also like to get back to working out at 4am as I don't have much time after work (kids, family, life, etc. ![]() So what's my solution? Don't know yet. I'm still trying to figure it out. Maybe a viewing of Rocky III to get me back on track! ![]() |

It worked for me and helped me stay on track. As far as drinking soda, I switched to Diet Coke or Coke Zero and it helped me. I've tried the Diet Dr. Pepper and it isn't too bad. Most of the time I just try to drink unsweetened iced tea. I was amazed how may calories are in regular soda. To this day, I can't really stand regular soda as I'm more into the taste of diet or "zero" soda. I know what you mean about clothes not fitting. I'm going through that now. It's either too big or too small. I'm looking for the "just right" clothes, especially jeans. |

One day I just realized that what I was doing was simply not healthy and while it's okay to have fast food etc, it's okay to do so once in a while not every day or every other day. I used to drink 1 coke every day and bring my lunch maybe twice a week. I decided for one week I would have no coke during my workweek and I would bring my lunch every day at work. Once I did that for 1 week, I did it for a second week. Once I did it for 2 weeks, I decided to workout twice a week. Then I did it for 2 weeks. The big thing is to set really small realistic goals, even if it seems so easy and silly and you want to pile on just one more, don't. Just do something that you know you can do and do it. Once you accomplish it , see it as one step in the right direction. There is no quick fix (that will last) to change your way of thinking and eating. It's a cliche but losing weight / better lifestyle is a marathon not a sprint. As I have said in the past, the biggest thing that helped me was using myfitnesspal (MFP) app. Once you start adding up everything you eat you will start to realize how much you are actually eating and it's shocking most times. Also, if you are not a good cook, I was there too. I suggest the New Abs Diet cookbook by men's health. They have really delicious easy recipies that anybody can do. They also have 2 week plans that you can follow (which is what I did) so you start getting into a groove and pattern. I also use Sunday to cook as much as I can for the week (side dishes) so I just have to cook my protein for dinner. If you need any help or advice, you should think about joining MFP or feel free to send me a PM. Good luck! |
